Author’s Preface

So-called “extraordinary abilities” or special abilities are in fact a kind of latent capacity of humanity. This capacity is possessed by everyone; it is merely a matter of difference in degree. It manifests through the mental consciousness of the brain.

There are people who can predict events or know another person’s intention before that person has even opened their mouth, or who frequently have the experience of “speak of Cao Cao and Cao Cao appears.” There are even some people who, just as they are thinking of someone and about to call that person on the phone, hear the phone ring — and it turns out to be that very person calling. This kind of thing happens frequently to you and me in everyday life; this is the extraordinary ability within our latent capacities.

However, humanity tends to treat these occurrences as probability and coincidence, thereby denying its own potential. But when the number of times reaches four or more, such experiences and data are no longer coincidences. Therefore, “extraordinary abilities” are in reality neither “extraordinary” nor “not extraordinary”; they have always been a kind of ability latent within the human body, and there is nothing strange about them at all. It is simply that humanity, influenced by the civilization it has created and by the obstruction of knowledge, has come to look down upon the abilities it originally possessed.

The author first published a book on the subject of extraordinary abilities in the sixty-third year of the Republic of China (1974 in the Western calendar) under the title Are Spiritual Power and Extraordinary Abilities Mysterious? Thanks to the consensus and support of enthusiasts who research this field and of the majority of readers, I have now written this book, drawing on the insights gained from many years of professional research.

As one who engages in exploration of this field in a professional and occupational capacity, I still maintain the principles of experimental and empirical science, conducting research upon the foundation of classical science. In today’s world, where science prevails, we cannot keep telepathy confined to the abstract, obscure, and mystical terminology of the past — such as mental transmission, celestial hearing, and celestial vision. We should attempt to study it deeply, and furthermore, find ways to apply these abilities in personal enterprise, politics and economics, and national defense.

I often hear about or see people who claim to possess spiritual power summoning the spirits of deceased relatives to appear on behalf of others (when in fact nothing appears at all). I also see those who claim to be possessed by deities and possess spiritual power, delivering people from misfortune. Then there are spirit mediums who boast that they can call upon high-level deities from the divine realm to descend — such practices are truly open to question. In a democratic country, for an ordinary citizen to see the mayor or the governor, one still needs to make an appointment or go through the procedure of scheduling a meeting in advance, because everyone is busy and prior arrangements must be made. How then could those high-level gods be summoned to come and dismissed to go at the bidding of a spirit medium? It is truly laughable.

These things that cannot be seen by the eyes or grasped by the hands, and that only the person themselves experiences in a manner resembling self-hypnosis, are impractical. Because there is no evidence, whatever the practitioner says goes — this is nothing but quackery, not science.

One should regard seeing as believing and as proof. To merely tell people to feel it for themselves only leads to blind faith and lacks public credibility; it cannot truly convince people.

At present, major universities in the United States, the Commonwealth of Independent States (the former Soviet Union), Europe, and elsewhere have successively established departments of parapsychology, formally recruiting students for research. Research into extraordinary abilities is no longer a mysterious phenomenon.

Mental consciousness is the activity of the human brain. The human brain is material, and therefore its activity is undoubtedly a form of material motion. The human brain can be monitored with a psychometric detector, which demonstrates that conscious activity possesses a material foundation.

It must follow certain objective laws. Science should proceed gradually to seek answers based on the data and facts provided by experimentation; only in this way can phenomena that modern science has yet to understand be elucidated and major theoretical discoveries be made. Research into extraordinary abilities will inevitably deepen humanity’s understanding of itself. It is my hope that this book can broaden readers’ horizons and resonate with them.

Part One: Extraordinary Ability Phenomena

1 Six Dimensions and Extraordinary Abilities

To study mental concentration, one must train in breathing techniques, seated meditation, fixation methods, self-hypnosis, and other forms of practice. However, we must first recognize the worldview and philosophy of life that serve as the background. Only with correct concepts can one develop outstanding abilities — and these abilities are the so-called “extraordinary abilities.” This ability is not something that only special people can possess; it is an ability that anyone can develop.

Extraordinary abilities are by no means supernatural, mystical, or bizarre; they arise entirely from the natural abilities of human beings themselves. Those materialists who regard extraordinary abilities as superstition, those intellectuals who value only science, and those scholars deeply obstructed by their own knowledge, often treat extraordinary abilities as superstition. In reality, holding such a subjective view is itself the true superstition. On the other hand, the neo-idealist who worships deities and buddhas at every turn, believing that everything will then go smoothly, is also a subscriber to superstition. I personally have always maintained an attitude of eliminating all superstition, examining and studying things — both the material and the mental — through the most advanced scientific concepts and philosophical principles, in accordance with a correct worldview and philosophy of life.

The Six-Dimensional World

The so-called six-dimensional world is: the three-dimensional space plus the dimension of time, becoming the fourth dimension; then adding “energy” to become the fifth dimension; and then adding the dimension of “consciousness,” which is the sixth dimension. That is, the cosmic reality formed by the fusion of space and time, energy and direction.

In ordinary theory, the first dimension refers to the longitudinal line of the space we inhabit, the second dimension is the lateral line, height is the third dimension, the fourth dimension refers to time, then “energy” is the fifth dimension, and “consciousness” (direction) is the sixth dimension.

When Newton’s theory of gravity produced certain problems at the very moment they could not be resolved, Einstein published the principle of relativity, forming a branch of modern science.

However, the four-dimensional world is not a space visible to the biological naked eye; it is what is commonly called the world of ghosts. In past concepts, it was believed that supernatural abilities or certain psychic phenomena all came from a kind of formless power of the fourth dimension. Strictly investigated, these claims should be denied. The ghost realm of the fourth dimension can only represent formless existence, but it has no driving force or consciousness (direction).

Therefore, if one wishes to discuss supernatural abilities or the question of the “mind” after death, one must extend to six-dimensional space. The time and space spoken of in the four-dimensional space of physics are formless; for things visible to the naked eye, things with life and matter, they all have the effect of change, so studying space or time alone is meaningless. Only after the three dimensions of space are fused with the one dimension of time does it gain its meaning.

Now suppose there is a beautiful woman in a room. One minute later, upon seeing this beautiful woman again, the woman one minute later and the woman seen before are, in fact, already different, because during this time there may be a variation difference of thirty kilometers; in reality, she is already approaching the form of an old woman, but for the moment it simply cannot be perceived by the naked eye. The things thought of now and the positions and things thought of in an instant are, in fact, no longer the same things, but have already become something else.

By the time our naked eyes can detect changes, that living organism or matter has already changed too much. Therefore, living things and other things in three-dimensional space change along with time.

The principles of four-dimensional space were discussed earlier. If we investigate further and look at our bodies from a scientific standpoint, we know that the physical body is fundamentally matter—elementary particles, electrons, protons—among which there are more than thirty kinds of elementary particles including neutrinos, revolving in vortex-like patterns in the form of electromagnetic waves. And within this infinitesimal space, in infinitesimal time, energy is constantly being generated and extinguished in cyclical recurrence. One thinks freely and at will, and this consciousness further draws forth “consciousness.” That is, consciousness becomes conscious of “consciousness.” This consciousness can become conscious of the realm of “enlightenment.”

When one can concentrate the mind to a single point and unify the spirit, one’s own life will not be confined by the physical body, but will freely merge with space, diffuse, and resonate with one’s friends.

Despite great distance, one can detect movements or witness them, transmit what one thinks to the other party, and cure illness; merging with time, events that occurred in the past vividly appear before one’s eyes as if painted in a picture; regarding future destiny, one can know it in advance, avoid disasters, or turn bad luck into good fortune.

If one reaches the realm of awakening, the myriad phenomena of the natural world are manifestations of cosmic life, and within the phenomena there is cosmic life; life is phenomenon, and phenomenon is life—this is also the philosophy of “form is emptiness, emptiness is form.” Therefore, the true reality is the six-dimensional world. If we use cinema as an analogy, the six-dimensional world is like the film negative, and the present world is the image on the screen.

The Meaning of the Soul

To study spiritual power or supernatural abilities, one must first understand the source that inspires spiritual power or supernatural abilities—that is, the most fundamental element: the soul. Regarding the existence of the soul, every religion in the world has its own unique perspective, and each religion’s explanation of the soul is taken seriously.

In Christianity and in theistic philosophy, it is held that after a person dies, the soul continues to be active in space and reshapes its original personality. In Buddhism, there is another profound exposition, tied to the law of reincarnation, discussed alongside the theory of the immortality of the soul. Others such as Daoism, Islam, and Lamaism all put forward arguments for the absolute existence of the soul.

In ancient times, when the humanities had not yet been enlightened, the cultivation of human character bore the most important educational role—namely, through the various teachings of religion, guiding the human heart toward goodness. But at the same time, it also enabled some people to seize the opportunity to establish doctrines of evil ways, causing fragile human nature to step into extreme faith. Whether for good or for evil, one of the main tenets was affirming the existence of the soul. However, this chapter is not specifically about discussing the religious view of the soul’s existence; setting aside the various religious explanations, we will talk in general terms about perspectives on the soul.

In European and American countries, certain organizations and university research institutes and similar institutions have separately and officially begun researching the spirit. Regardless of the reasoning behind it, the soul has long been recognized by humanity as a fact. Behind this fact, there must naturally be its reasoning and evidence. Because of the difficulty in finding convincing proof, especially since the development of psychology in the nineteenth century, most scientists have held a negative attitude toward the soul.

People with a low level of education merely believe blindly; not only do they have no interest in academic research, they actually foster superstitious beliefs in spirits and the supernatural, giving charlatans an opportunity to exploit. Those with a high level of education, on the other hand, are mostly stubbornly fixated on the materialist worship of scientific experimentation. Under the pens of men of letters and artists, imagination is heavily embellished and turned into novels and plays for people’s entertainment. As for the soul in the minds of philosophers, although it arises from rational speculation, it always tends to be somewhat vacillating and ethereally abstract. Viewed from this perspective, the matter of the soul is truly not easy to discuss. From the dullest wit to the brightest intellect, it is difficult to know where to begin. One can see that among all the “difficult to discuss” matters in the universe, nothing surpasses this.

The author believes that between mind and matter, there is a subtle balance; between science and religion, there is an invisible bridge; and among the different sects of all religions, there are thoroughfares extending in all directions. We should penetrate to the truth of things, and our understanding should be logical. Without being constrained by outward appearances, we should directly grasp the metaphysical essence of all things, so that the existence of all things is manifested, and wherever we look across the rivers and mountains, there is a realm of solemnity. In works of literature and art, we should infuse the brilliance of solemnity without revealing any traces of the supernatural. Only in this way can we begin to discuss the matter of the soul; and only with a healthy concept of the soul can we avoid being lost in ghosts and spirits or being biased toward science alone.

In encyclopedic dictionaries, the definition given for the soul is: “The soul is the principle that can prompt activity in humans or plants.” In addition, the soul may also be referred to as 靈 . In the National Language Dictionary: “靈 , commonly refers to ghosts and spirits; a person’s spirit, the influence of spirit and flesh.” As for the explanation of the soul, the human spirit attached to the physical form is called 魄 , and that which can exist independently apart from the physical form is called 魂 . In reality, for this kind of existence, there is currently no appropriate term in science and technology to express the meaning contained therein.

In English, the Oxford Dictionary gives the following explanation regarding the soul: “specter: Ghost haunting fear of a human body believed to excist forever.” The immaterial part of the body, believed to exist forever. Here it is not difficult to find that in both Chinese and Western definitions, there is a common point: namely, that in addition to the existing physical body, there is another immaterial part of life that belongs to oneself, perpetually and continuously existing in this universe. Because the existence of the soul can be neither touched nor seen, apart from measuring it through the “mind’s eye,” there is no other way to verify it. Relying solely on the sensory system of the five senses, which is physically constructed, makes it very difficult to comprehend.

In short, the existence of the soul and its activities, up to the present, still cannot convince everyone that they are facts. Although some people are able to see and even communicate with it, these people are often accused of having hallucinations or nervous weakness, and ultimately become the object of public ridicule, so that they themselves weaken their own faith and come to believe that it is truly an illusion produced by wild imagination.

Based on religious literature and the writings of ancient sages, the author believes that the soul is the activity of the “mind,” a spiritual entity that exists and is active both within and outside the present materialized body. This viewpoint should be worthy of retention.

The Science of the Soul

What is this immaterialized life? And what form does it take? On this point, the author, out of curiosity, has consulted biologists, doctors, experts in physics and chemistry, and accomplished monks of spiritual cultivation. Not only within the country, but also abroad, the author has consulted countless scholars and individuals who enjoy researching this field. Especially abroad, the author has actively explored various academic disciplines; whenever time permitted, thickening one’s skin and disregarding matters of face, the author pursued and sought answers.

In Japan, there are quite a number of research-oriented academic organizations of this type, and the place with the greatest concentration is still Tokyo. In reality, Japan’s research in this area spans only about fifty years. According to the materials at hand, research in England has been underway for over one hundred years, with the United States closely following. Russia, behind the United States, France, Germany, and other such nations, is slightly ahead of Japan.

Currently, the United States is conducting research on the spirit very actively and carrying out multifaceted experiments. As for Russia, it is also intensifying its exploration in this area (please refer to the book Soviet Psychic Powers, Huizhong Culture Publishing House). In 1912, Harvard University in the United States established the Hodgson Fund for the study of spiritual phenomena. In 1943, the Institute of Parapsychology at Duke University in the United States published Research on Super-Particles of the Spirit. In Russia in 1957, a leading authority, Professor Toliumyv, published The Marvelous Biological Reactions of Ultra-High Frequency Electromagnetic Waves, which sent shockwaves through scholars of parapsychology research in various countries. In 1967, the Russian astronomer Khershov published a research paper on “Mental Micro-Particles,” which further aroused the Russian people’s interest in psychical research to an almost frenzied degree.

As for England, in 1929, in London, two doctors jointly conducted experiments and published a report on “Astral Body Levitation,” which caused a sensation throughout the European scientific and academic community. These two doctors were Clinton and Shilumurudun. In 1963, a leading British authority on biology — John Eccles — published a paper on “The Physiology of the Mind,” among others.

Japan can be said to be the most active country in Asia in the study of psychical research. For example, in 1931, Dr. Tomokichi Fukurai (please refer to the book Psychics, Huizhong Culture Publishing House) authored a book entitled Clairvoyance and Thoughtography, which was published in England. In 1946, the “Japan National Psychical Science Association” was established. From 1960 to the present, countless research institutions have been established in various locations, among the more famous of which are: the “Japan Fukurai Psychology Research Institute” in Sendai City, the “Parapsychology Research Society” in Niigata Prefecture, and the “Japan Parapsychology Association” and “Japan Thoughtography Association” near Nakano Ward in Tokyo.

Other countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Greece, and others all have institutions dedicated to parapsychological research. As for research funding, in some cases it is entirely covered by the state; in others it is supplementary in nature, allocated by local governments; but for the most part, funds are self-raised by foundations and academic organizations.

When it comes to scientific civilization, the nations of Europe and America may be considered advanced countries. In the United States, for instance, everything is scientificized; they can even land on and explore the Moon and other planets. Yet the soul, which in our minds is regarded as excessively superstitious, they are able to believe in and furthermore devote themselves to researching — this attitude is worthy of admiration. What is especially remarkable is that even in materialist communist countries, they are researching idealist philosophy and placing importance on the development of spiritual science. The leading institution in this area of research is the Leningrad Institute of Parapsychology, with all expenses supplied by the Ministry of Defense, and consequently they have achieved considerable results.

Although the United States began its research in parapsychology earlier than the Soviet Union, watching the Soviet Union’s vigorous research efforts compelled the Americans themselves to strengthen their experiments. From this, one can also understand that the United States and the Soviet Union are engaged in a competition that is relaxed on the surface but tense underneath in the area of parapsychological research and experimentation.

A Strange Experience

I remember that on September 3, 1964, while I was staying in London, England, arrangements had been made for me to lodge at a guesthouse on a quiet street called Stepney Green in the East End. Since we had traveled all the way from Athens, Greece, through various countries to arrive here, the luggage we carried on our backs was so heavy that it left one breathless, and even speaking felt like a burden. Although it was September, the season of autumn, London — world-renowned as the city of fog — seemed to receive an unbalanced supply of sunlight. The clouds were dreary, the dew was cold, the north wind was biting, and layers of fog hung over the city, never dispersing.

After a hearty dinner that evening, I finally felt my blood circulating again and my spirits restored. The rest of the group, dragging their bodies deeply fatigued from days of travel in foreign lands, fell fast asleep. I, however, felt that having come all the way from Taiwan to England, why not seize the moment to take in the night scenery! So I drove away the god of sleep on my own and strolled alone through the nearby streets and alleys. The shops on London’s streets closed at six in the afternoon, and since it was already past midnight, the silent night often makes one feel as though one has transcended material civilization and drawn closer to the spiritual world.

When it was time to head back to the guesthouse, I suddenly noticed at the corner of an alley a dead-end lane with a wall about two meters high formed by dense, thick foliage. Driven by that innate human curiosity, I summoned my courage and slowly approached to take a closer look. It turned out to be an old house, naturally unoccupied. The weeds in the courtyard were unkempt and tangled, forming bizarre shapes; the front entrance was an iron gate, and a single push produced a sound like two rusty saws scraping against each other, which made my hair stand on end. A chill suddenly rose from the soles of my feet, traveling up along my legs and abdomen toward my upper body — it was genuinely and unmistakably uncomfortable. Fear arose in my heart, and I turned and ran back.

The next day, I recounted what had happened to a professor who studied this field. He said to me very earnestly that the phenomenon of coldness slowly rising from the soles of one’s feet upward is caused by the oscillation of microwaves transmitted from fourth-dimensional space, and that had I been able to remain there a little longer, I would certainly have been able to perceive what I wanted to know. He also said that coldness descending from the head, neck, and so forth downward indicates a psychological effect with no other factors involved. But in my case, the coldness rose from the soles of my feet upward through my body, and this confirmed the manifestation of an evil spirit — in other words, this house was a “haunted house.”

*The phenomenon of coldness slowly rising from the soles of the feet upward is caused by the oscillation of microwaves transmitted from fourth-dimensional space.

*Coldness descending from the head, neck, and so forth downward indicates a psychological effect, with no other factors involved.

I had originally wanted us to go as a group to investigate further, but due to the constraints of our travel itinerary and our busy official activities, I reluctantly abandoned this plan. In truth, I was also worried that if it caused trouble, it would not be worth it. However, the bodily sensation phenomena explained to me by Professor Kenith of Cambridge University’s parapsychology department were indeed a valuable experience worth preserving.

The Mass of the Soul

This professor gave me materials related to this field. He said that an authoritative scientific organization in Germany, with government support, was currently conducting research on this science of the soul. As it happened, our group’s next destination was West Germany.

By the time we arrived in the city of Frankfurt, West Germany, it was already past seven in the evening, yet the entire street was as bright as daylight. Neon lights glowed in a dazzling array of colors, and pedestrians and automobiles wove back and forth like threads in a fabric. Nightclubs could be found every few steps. Although the shops had long since closed, the various goods displayed in the windows were all arranged with considerable artistic care. The Rhine River runs through the city, forming the most beautiful scenic line. Its emerald-green waters reflected the tall buildings, and it was near this area that we found a large youth activity center hotel. In front of this hotel was the bank of a river called the Main, and spanning this river was a bridge. Its surface was paved with floor tiles crafted from whole blocks of stone, laid in an orderly and artful manner, making it a bridge rich in medieval character. Ordinary automobiles did not appear to be permitted to cross it; only pedestrians were allowed. Judging by its width, there was easily enough room for a single car to pass through comfortably.

That evening, there were no group activities; it was a night of rest. Taking advantage of this free time, I made preliminary inquiries about the location and the director of this research group, in order to make psychological preparations for the visit.

The following day, I found the institution at the indicated address, but it was only a branch office, containing merely a single-item research team. From the outside, this research institution looked unremarkable; the only distinguishing feature was a sign hanging at the entrance reading “Parapsychological Research.”

Inside this four-story building, epoch-making research into the science of the soul was underway. Frankly, had one not come intentionally to visit, no one would ever have guessed the significance of this building. Next door was a Chinese restaurant called the “Hong Kong Restaurant.” Outside the restaurant hung two large palace lanterns, and it actually attracted far more attention and looked far more imposing than the building of this research organization.

Of course, a research institution is not a commercial establishment and does not need a luxurious appearance. Since I had come for a visit, I presented my credentials and introduced myself. One of the young men inside, who was also the director of this research institution, upon hearing that I came from Taiwan, very warmly showed me around their research laboratory. The laboratory was furnished with many instruments, much like a surgical anatomy room, yet it also gave one the atmosphere of a plant greenhouse. The research team here held meetings twice a month, presenting their findings and reporting to the headquarters in West Berlin.

What interested me most was that there were many human racial models from countries around the world, exquisitely crafted to look exactly like real people. I asked what these human figures were made for. He said that the soul is the master of the existing physical body, and before shaping it, what kind of elements the souls combined with each other — producing tall ones and short ones, differences in skin color layers, and so on — was precisely what they were researching; and these model figures served as hypothetical entities. Their research spirit was admirable. Due to time constraints, I was unable to see the process of their experiments.

*Matter and the soul originate from the same source.

*The human soul has weight, weighing more than twenty grams.

However, there was one piece of data here worth considering, and that was the experiment on the mass of the soul. He showed me another set of instruments. This apparatus was extremely complex. I once asked to see the design blueprints of this equipment, but was refused. He said it was still under continuing research and could not yet be officially disclosed. Nevertheless, from his experimental report I obtained the following data (the Soviet Union had also conducted the same experiment):

1 The human soul is like a thin layer of an ethereal body that retains the shape it had during life. This ethereal body possesses a kind of substance and also has a definite weight.

2 Matter and the soul are not as vastly different as we imagine; on the contrary, they are things that originate from the same source.

3 From experiments on one or two deceased persons, they found that at the moment of a person’s death, the combined weight of moisture, gas, and other substances lost from the human body totals just over twenty grams.

This experiment, it was said, involved patients who were on the verge of death. With the consent of their families, under certain conditional compensation, and through legal procedures, they were handed over to the research association for use in experiments. The patient was transported onto something resembling a surgical operating table, with a scale placed beneath the table and connected to computer instruments. At the moment the patient drew their last breath, the pointer on the scale suddenly moved backward, the difference being more than twenty grams. At the same time, through specially equipped ultraviolet instruments and photography, one could witness a wisp of light smoke, or perhaps a flowing substance like a luminous body, emerging from the nostrils of the deceased. The above data shared commonalities with the findings published by Japan’s “Parapsychology Research Society.” The work Spirit Waves by Masaki Wazō, a professor in the Faculty of Engineering at Osaka University, and the Theory of Ethereal-Body Projection published by Doctor of Engineering Seki Hideo, also contained points of agreement.

In Tokyo there was much research in this field, but in Germany the answers to the mysteries were pursued through actual clinical experiments. Over the past several decades, Japan had also risen to catch up, intensifying its research and experimental work and continuously manufacturing this type of experimental equipment. In the Japanese research community, it was discovered that the soul is a kind of organic entity that exists within the body during life, and it also possesses organs such as a brain, nerves, blood vessels, and a heart.

Up to now, the public organizations involved in the research and development of soul science are as described above, but to make this universally accepted as common knowledge by everyone, so that all are thoroughly convinced, remains very difficult.

We absolutely must not overlook the spirit of scientists from various countries, as well as experts in biology, electricity, and medicine, who bury themselves in tireless research day and night, nor can we dismiss their research findings. In particular, the common conclusions reached by West German scholars through their verification on one to two hundred deceased persons can provide us with a kind of academic value perspective.

Living Spirits and Ghosts

The soul of a living person is a “living spirit,” also called a “living soul,” and the soul of a deceased person is a “ghost.” Within our souls there exists a kind of fine particle (angstrom), a super-particle light wave measuring one hundred-millionth of a centimeter. This was a research result obtained by Masaki Wazō, a professor of engineering at Osaka University, calculated through specially designed precision instruments. However, in my estimation, the figure is probably even greater than this.

There is a soul wave of super power, namely, an electric wave. Interaction between living persons is achieved precisely through the power of the living soul, enabling mutual communication. This living soul — when it refers to us — we reside in this world, and this world is the third-dimensional space (also called the three-dimensional world).

Dimension means expansion. The first dimension has expansion in only a single direction. It is like a space with no distinction of up, down, left, or right — merely an extension in one direction. It is like a train without a steering wheel traveling on a fixed track. This world is called the first-dimensional world, and can also be described as the world of lines.

The second-dimensional world refers to the ability to expand in two directions. Like an automobile, it has no fixed track; it can quickly overtake other vehicles and, of course, can also make turns. However, it is still confined to movement on a plane and cannot break through to fly into the sky.

The third dimension is the world in which we currently reside. It progresses from a plane with left and right to a solid form, possessing height and depth. From airplanes in the sky to submarines below, all can be called three-dimensional means of transportation. It is a world that has broken through the plane and moved toward three-dimensionality — and this is the habitat of “living spirit” organisms.

What, then, is the fourth-dimensional world like? From the first dimension to the second-dimensional space, it is at most at the level of using a steering wheel; from second-dimensional space to third-dimensional space, one relies on a joystick to ascend and descend. If one wants to go to another world, such as the fourth-dimensional space, one must separately design equipment for maneuvering. In the fourth-dimensional space, the most important thing is to add the condition of time, meaning it is accessible in all directions without any obstruction; even an iron wall can be penetrated without any damage. It can be called a super-three-dimensional world. This world is the place where “ghosts” dwell, which is also the place where the souls of the dead dwell.

“Living spirits” can similarly communicate with “ghosts,” transmitting and taking effect through the spiritual waves emitted by their respective souls. This is the phenomenon commonly referred to as “spirit communication,” which can also be called “telepathy.” The interaction and induction of souls are usually dominated by the souls of the fourth dimension, and there are more opportunities to influence the living spirits of the third dimension, such as guardian spirits and guiding spirits. Because they reside above the third-dimensional world, in a higher-level space, it is just like a commander standing on a high mountain, directing soldiers with a megaphone, microphone, or flute, or using a radiotelephone or waving flags to drill them. Therefore, no matter how capable a living spirit of the third dimension is, they are still subject to their control; of course, a living spirit of the third dimension can also transmit their own thought waves, namely spiritual waves, to the fourth-dimensional world to contact affairs, and this is one of the so-called supernatural phenomena. Super-fine radio waves are one of the basic energy sources for us to engage in spiritual power training and supernatural ability training. We must have this understanding before we can apply it to uncover energy and promote the growth of spiritual power.

Reincarnation and Rebirth

When going to England, if one does not take a look at their countryside, one cannot be considered to know England. I was originally very afraid of the cold. As soon as I arrived in England, I bought a sweater. Although it was September, the weather was incredibly cold. Were it not for my curiosity, I really would not have wanted to go out, preferring to hide in the guesthouse, roasting by the fire and chatting; only because I heard that there was a place in Windsor Castle specifically for holding “spirit communication seances,” equipped with a lot of data and instruments, which held considerable attraction for me.

Early in the morning, I took a taxi toward Windsor Castle. On the way, I found that our car seemed to be driving into a picture book, with endless exquisite little houses and endless green lawns. Those houses all had narrow and long windows, pointed and thin roofs, and cream-yellow walls, enclosing gardens full of brilliant colors, occasionally adorned with one or two ceramic deer or ceramic cranes.

It was already past twelve noon when we arrived at Windsor Castle. It is said that when William I entered London, he built this ancient castle as a royal residence, and it has been nearly over nine hundred years to this day. The granite building is both solid and thick; from a distance, it looks like a gigantic barrel-like object, towering majestically on the hillside. Above the grid-like small windows, there are also many loopholes. At that time, there were no rifles yet; when English King Harold met William I at Senlac, the infantry he led, in the moment of close combat, swung battleaxes to defend against the enemy. It is said that after William I, most English monarchs have used Windsor Castle as a royal residence, and the current Queen Elizabeth also uses it as a temporary palace.

Although there are quite a few tourists coming here every day, the grounds are desolate, and the rooms inside give people a gloomy feeling. My purpose was not to come here for sightseeing, but to find the “Spirit Communication Research Society.” After making inquiries, I learned that this research society was being prepared within this castle. Because of its status as a temporary royal palace, such activities were not permitted. Therefore, only those who loved researching parapsychology often gathered here and prepared the affairs of the research society. Once the preparatory work was completed, they were going to move to the city of London. During the preparatory period, they regularly held spirit communication gatherings on the evening of the fifteenth day of each month, but the day I went was not the fifteenth, so it was a wasted trip.

A middle-aged man with the appearance of a gentleman also hurried over for this matter. Of course, he had made a wasted trip just like me, but he looked very familiar. After a round of small talk, I finally recognized him as a colleague I had met in Xinao years ago. He was an outstanding educator in charge of youth activities in England, and I did not know he was also a researcher of parapsychology. In our disappointment, he said that there was a senior psychic nearby named Balinkor, and why not go together to talk with her? Naturally, I immediately agreed. The two of us hailed a taxi and found this middle-aged woman according to the address.

Her home stored many books related to this field. Coincidentally, she was also one of the main conveners of the preparatory committee and served as one of the hosts of the “spirit communication seances.” She had a weird expression and did not like to talk, answering only one sentence for every question asked. She was currently collecting actual data on human reincarnation and had already compiled many facts. She asked me whether China had theories about souls? Evidently, she did not understand our country’s religions and philosophies, which hurt my self-esteem. Just as I opened my mouth to explain to her, my friend beat me to it and told her that China’s theories concerning souls, Buddhist studies, the I Ching, and so on, predated England’s by who knows how many years. This pleasing short sentence calmed my dissatisfied emotions. Her attitude subsequently became very friendly, and she then spoke ceaselessly about matters concerning souls.

On her desk, there were many card-style documents filled with people’s names, as well as booklets resembling genealogies and photos of infants, looking just like the records in our household registration offices, numbered one by one. However, I did not recognize a single one of those people; most were British and a few were people from other countries; if it were in Taiwan, collecting Chinese people, perhaps I might have coincidentally known some of them.

She stated that she was researching hereditary characteristics, tracing back to the ancestral generation, investigating records of the previous generation and even the generation before that, including interests, occupations, habits, and so forth, studying the possibility of reincarnation. She also frequently communicated with the spirit world through the supernatural powers of mediums, but this was entirely academic inquiry with no other intent. Among those materials, there are many records and annotations worthy of our reference, particularly detailed accounts concerning reincarnation and the soul’s incarnation, with the following several entries.

Once the physical body has passed away, its spirit remains imperishable and will sometimes reincarnate again into the third dimension. As for the timing of reincarnation, it is not uniform: some can only return from the spirit world to be reborn after a very long time, while others are reborn into the third-dimensional world within a short period. This depends upon the degree of evolution the soul itself has attained in the spirit world. For example, lower-level souls—such as beasts or other creatures—after passing into the beyond, return to the earth in less than twenty years, or even merely a dozen or so years.

Somewhat more advanced souls, however, return to the human world in approximately forty-five years. After each person’s soul passes into the beyond, it must undergo corrective adjustments for evolution in the spirit world. During this period of correction, it often serves as a guardian spirit or guiding spirit for some person in the human world. Taking on this task is also a means of self-improvement toward evolution, to reach a higher realm sooner. After physical death, if the body is made into a mummy, the soul is often unable to achieve complete liberation from the body and cannot reincarnate.

Souls of relatively lower evolutionary degree, for the most part, do not realize after the physical body has perished that they have already entered the spirit world—such as atheists or those who deny the existence of the soul, especially those who die in sudden calamities. In reality, the soul’s departure from the physical body—whether during unconsciousness, shock, or sudden impact—proceeds in a state of unconsciousness. This is because the astral bodies of such people have a dense and heavy density, and they often remain in a vague, half-awakened state, lodging their posthumous daily existence upon the earth.

Reincarnation and incarnation depend upon the soul’s own choice, but it is not always freely decided by the individual alone; the sovereign authority in the unseen realm holds the final power of decision. If there are debts owed or compensations to be made during one’s lifetime, or a need to suffer again, these all have bearing connections. Absent such factors, one may freely choose to incarnate into a family one favors. There are exceptions, however: those who descend to carry out work on behalf of high-ranking spirits.

In any case, the soul does not fully lodge within the physical body until the moment of birth. From the beginning of pregnancy, the soul enters the forming physical body. This is because the soul must embed its original personality into this dwelling place, and continually carry out physiological and physical heredity there, so as to produce a distinctive individuality. During pregnancy, the soul comes and goes, until the very instant of birth, when all past memories are forgotten.

The above are records discerned from this weighty body of material from the British “spirit communication society.” However, in terms of my own research, there are cases where, after conception, as the fetus is forming, the soul does not come to lodge. When I posed this question to this psychic, she did not answer immediately, but merely said: “I have not yet researched this point.” In my view, since during pregnancy the soul comes and goes, this indicates that the soul itself has not yet definitively settled in the mother’s womb, and therefore may also abandon the opportunity to lodge in the forming fetus. This fetus naturally proceeds along the path of separating from the mother’s womb—that is, resulting in miscarriage. In my personal judgment, based on the theory of soul evolution, this fetus needs to undergo evolution and is sent back; this situation is, for the mother, a painful matter.

According to general physiological knowledge, the ovum can only descend into the uterus after menstruation has ended. However, if sexual intercourse occurs during menstruation, causing intense stimulation, it is also possible for the ovum to suddenly descend into the uterus, resulting in fertilization and pregnancy. This is merely my own humble speculation, and I do not know whether such a possibility exists. Suppose fertilization occurs under such circumstances—impurities would surely enter the ovum and cause miscarriage; and if the fetus could be carried to term, it would easily develop deformities and abnormalities.

When ordinary living souls pass into the beyond and enter the spirit world, there are still many ghosts unwilling to end their life in the third dimension so quickly. Lingering with attachment to that world of sensual desire and power, or harboring intense longing for the desires of prominent political and material influence, they naturally reincarnate and return to the earth.

At the time of rebirth, they will inevitably choose parents similar to their own soul’s character, drawn by the gravitational force of resonance—the “gravity of the heart”—which becomes a natural law, and once again revolve around this earth of unfree “caterpillar” existence (meaning transformation).

On the way back from Windsor Castle, I kept reading the materials this psychic had given me. Many parts resonate with the Buddhist law of karma. In Buddhist teachings, it is held that after a living soul passes into the beyond, those with a strong upward aspiration can break through the inner and outer shells of the self, expanding the realm of the mind to resonate and commune with great nature. Upon entering the higher levels of the spirit world, one resonates even more with the universe and becomes even more unified with great nature, thereby attaining the so-called state of unity of heaven and humanity. That state of unity between heaven and humanity then becomes the content of one’s life, and naturally one has no wish to hurry back to the earth to live that “caterpillar life” again. However, those who descend as humans based on the vow to deliver sentient beings are, of course, another matter entirely.

Regarding the many discussions above about the reincarnation and transmigration of souls after death, it is not only in Britain that there is such active interest. Looking at the current situation in the United States, talking about death is no longer a topic that people taboo. According to reports, some schools within the United States have even made death a part of their curriculum, and students regularly visit gravesites and funeral parlors, even taking turns lying in coffins to experience what it feels like. In a questionnaire on the existence of life after death, jointly organized by an academic organization and Time magazine, as many as eighty percent of people across the United States firmly believe that the soul is not restricted by the physical body; that although the body dies, the soul can transcend the limits of time and space, and after leaving the body, attach itself to another person, or even to another living organism, continuing to exist.

In this era of advanced science, particularly through the tireless research of American scientists, the most accomplished and widely known figure at present is Dr. Raymond A. Moody. In his book Life After Life, he collected data on one hundred people who had been declared dead but later miraculously revived. In his research, Dr. Moody discovered that each of the one hundred people he spoke with shared certain common experiences. For example, a dying person hears themselves being pronounced dead, then hears a strange sound, and finds themselves passing through a tunnel, with the physical body suddenly disappearing; at the same time, they are able to see the souls of deceased relatives and friends, and then encounter a loving and warm spirit.

Dr. Moody believes that people who die in accidents or are technically pronounced dead and then rescued and survive each experience different paranormal phenomena.

2 Psychic Phenomena

Mediumistic Abilities

The ability of a medium is not an ability that only special people can possess, and of course it is not the exclusive patent of professional mediums. It is an ability that everyone innately possesses — speaking of it, it is really nothing surprising.

All things with life are connected in a chain-like relationship with the natural world and the entire universe. Although there are different levels of spatial dimensions, all life forms within this space are intimately interrelated and are constantly communicating and connecting with one another. All kinds of life forms communicate with each other through the most fundamental “sensory power.” For example, when ants suddenly move their entire colony en masse, they are conveying to us the message that a flood is coming. In addition, there are many omens that we directly sense through our own bodies, such as suddenly feeling an itch in the ear or earlobe without any external stimulus, or other phenomena like an itchy navel or twitching eyelids, indicating that something good or troublesome is about to arrive — these serve to remind us to pay attention. These situations occur frequently in our daily lives, and through statistical analysis, they do indeed have a reliable percentage of accuracy.

These examples help us understand that the human organism possesses a sensory function, which is an extremely natural and ordinary matter. Because humanity lives in an era of evolution, the intense dominance of “present consciousness” — this kind of self-awareness — has produced a serious intellectual barrier, leading people to deny the existence of this ability. Once this ability is discovered, people treat it as a strange paranormal ability and marvel at it; in reality, this ability is not “paranormal” at all, but merely an ordinary, common power.

The study of parapsychology aims to help humanity regain a power long lost, to apply it to the development of one’s own interpersonal and professional endeavors, and thereby contribute to the nation and society.

Mediumistic Ability within the Human Body

Within a certain part of our physical body, there exists a peculiar cellular matrix called the Paranormal matrix. Its form resembles a cast network, much like the signal-receiving function of radar. Physiologically, it is a unique communication grid that can connect various types of living cells. Under rigorous scientific procedures, Soviet scientists discovered that certain people can identify various colors without using visual eyesight. Through research, they concluded that every living cell seems to function like an independent intelligence agency, and collectively they are called the “Psychic recognition system.”

The entire cellular organization formed by the connections of this peculiar cellular matrix can at any time detect paranormal phenomena across various levels of the natural world. In addition, many “acupoints” within our bodies — the acupoints used in Chinese acupuncture medicine — all produce weak “magnetic waves” that generate an “electric current” effect. This is a perspective arrived at through medical and scientific instrumentation. Although it is still under investigation, given that the luminous energy field (CURA) of the human body, also known as the “aura,” has already been confirmed, the theory of so-called “magnetic waves” at these acupoints should be considered a tenable proposition. Furthermore, the hub of human subconscious awareness is governed by the autonomic nervous system, and its center is located in the abdomen. Therefore, practices such as Zen meditation and seated meditation all focus on strengthening the dantian in the abdomen, which is essentially cultivating the power of the subconscious.

Which is more important, “present consciousness” or “subconscious awareness”? Because, like a balance scale, they always maintain a state of equilibrium in human life, which side is ultimately more important? Although one cannot say that a person can survive without a brain, the “subconscious” remains the root source and possesses great sensory power. For example, invertebrates do not have a brain, yet they still possess considerable vitality, because for them the power of the subconscious alone is sufficient for survival. Through this sensory power, we can cultivate correct judgment in handling our own affairs, dispel superstitions harmful to society, influence wrongdoers to turn toward goodness, and even apply it to public security and national defense — all of which hold great value and significance.

*The hub center of the human subconscious is located in the abdomen.

*Strengthening the dantian in the abdomen during seated meditation is precisely the cultivation of the power of the subconscious.

What Is the “Soul”?

A medium is a medium for souls. When a medium activates a magnetic field to generate resonance, the so-called “soul” is mutually attracted along the magnetic waves, descends upon the medium in three-dimensional space, and becomes a phenomenon of spirit attachment upon the human body. At this time, the medium’s consciousness is completely controlled, and the personality that originally resided in the third dimension enters a state of disappearance.

So, in what form does the so-called soul actually exist? Regarding the exploration of the soul, everyone has their own views and insights. Because it is something intangible and invisible, it seems to have form yet also seems formless, making it very difficult to produce convincing, concrete evidence.

What is generally referred to as “spirit” takes the latent consciousness as its root. Speaking of the two characters “soul” (ling-hun), “ling” belongs to the present consciousness, while “hun” is the latent consciousness. During the period when you rely on breathing to sustain life, the present consciousness naturally plays the lead role; upon death, the latent consciousness becomes the main role. When human beings continue their life force and are active in three-dimensional space, they employ present consciousness, increase their moral sense, and shape their personality in real-world society. In our daily lives, we often hear statements like “that dog is very intelligent” or “some animal possesses the intelligence of a human.” These all illustrate that those animals, like humans, also possess present consciousness; however, the driving motor behind them is still latent consciousness—this is cosmic consciousness, which is also eternal life.

In religion, concepts such as reincarnation and rebirth still have the “hun” as their matrix. Therefore, when after death you pass through a number of years and are reborn as a human or other organism, the memory of the present consciousness from before life—that is, the spiritual portion—is completely erased, and matters of the previous life are inevitably forgotten entirely. Even so, there are also some cases akin to a portion of a recording tape not being fully wiped clean. Thus, in every person’s life, there is at least one experience of feeling “this place seems familiar” and the like—this occurs when the “present consciousness” momentarily fades and the “latent consciousness” emerges to trigger your recollection.

Present consciousness may, after a single experience, have its memory diluted by the passage of time or by distracting thoughts, but latent consciousness does not forget. The center of this great force lies in the abdomen. Yogic practice regards this center as the solar plexus and attaches great importance to it. Some people also call this force “thought” (nian).

Therefore, it would not work if human beings relied entirely on or exclusively employed latent consciousness—that would make us no different from other animals. Human beings must go through death and rebirth many times, returning to the three-dimensional space of the earth’s surface, employing present consciousness, emphasizing reason and morality, and inspiring conventional thought and knowledge. This is what is called the evolution of life, rebirth, and rebirth again. No matter how the era and environment change, life itself remains unchanged. From the above perspective, spirit attachment upon the human body refers to the soul-bodies of those who have died drifting in four-dimensional space before reincarnation. To distinguish them, the souls of the deceased are given names such as “wandering souls” or “ghosts,” while living persons are classified under the term “living spirits.”

Ghosts

When the heartbeat stops and the five senses cease accordingly, that is death. After death, life still retains the personality and thoughts held before death and continues to be active in space—this is what was described above as a ghost. According to a column titled Life After Death published by a leading professor—Huxhal—from the Institute of Neurophysiology at Slumanoo University, there is the following account. He believes that human beings can see, hear, and make contact with the outside world through the five senses because stimuli are transmitted through the human body’s neural organization system to the brain cells, and the brain cells then release a weak electrical current. This current is the brain wave, which imprints every known stimulus within the cells—this is what is called “memory.” The nature of brain waves shares the same properties as electrical waves. The electrical waves generated by brain cells are weak in output, and in essence should be regarded as identical to the waves used in televisions and radios.

The survival of consciousness after death is precisely the continued existence of this waveform. This electrical wave drifts in the air and can fly to any distant location at extremely high speed; it can also, of course, easily pass through walls and windows. Therefore, life after death may well be the activity of this electrical wave. Naturally, this explanation approaches the mystery of mind and consciousness after death from the perspective of physics. In my view, his theory can only be regarded as a relatively logical framework. In particular, the notion of using “electrical waves” to describe ghosts can serve as a reference for future research—at the very least, it represents a breakthrough over the typically mystical and unfounded explanations.

Based on my personal experience and countless encounters, as well as my involvement in various experiments dealing with haunted houses, I can say with certainty that the existence of ghosts in this world is an undeniable fact. Regarding the phenomenon of ghosts attaching to the human body, if we consider the peculiar cellular matrix and nervous system within the human body, along with the magnetic waves of the body’s acupoints, the interaction is akin to the contact between a ghost’s electrical waves and these systems. One cannot fire blindly and dismiss all theories with a single stroke.

Ghosts retain the personality they had in life—that is, they possess the nature, preferences, habits, and thoughts they held while alive—and they also remain attached to the various circumstances of the human world, especially fixating on the location where their life ended. For example, if someone is hit and killed by a vehicle while jaywalking across a street, when their physical body is destroyed, their spiritual energy instantly detaches and drifts around the area of the accident. Filled with unwillingness and resentment, they linger there. Sometimes this thought produces an electrical shock effect, materializing into a visible apparition, causing another driver to experience an illusion or a pedestrian to momentarily lose their bearings, and once again an unfortunate incident occurs at the same location. Although this reasoning has no basis in science, there are in fact many cases for which you simply cannot offer a rational explanation.

In my personal experience, I have found that ghosts all prefer to dwell in old houses or near ancient wells. During the daytime, they like to linger in dark, damp places, in the woods of the wilderness, and upon other plants.

When a medium is in the channeling phase, it often brings about the manifestation of a ghostly entity, because a ghost is an electric current, like a formless gas. If it wants to manifest the appearance and posture it had in life, it must borrow human energy, using the principle of a magnetic field to attract electromagnetic action, which of course cannot be done without starting with the medium who is currently in communication. At this time, the substance generated by the medium’s mind will overflow to the outside like a kind of liquid. Chemical analysis methods in Europe and America have already shown that it is a colorless, odorless, filamentous liquid substance.

Ghosts themselves are also divided into good and evil. The good ones refer to those whose deeds in life were all about keeping to their duties, while the evil ones are of course evil spirits. If unfortunately an evil spirit takes advantage of a vulnerability to possess someone, then it will be troublesome. Therefore, those professional mediums not only need to know the techniques of summoning spirits, but additionally must cultivate a set of methods to ward off evil spirits.

Ghost Possession

The phenomenon of ghost possession is not something that only mediums experience; all living beings have the possibility of being possessed. Among them, the situation of humans being entangled by ghosts is more frequent than that of other living beings, which is because humans themselves possess the function of electromagnetic attraction, as has been mentioned earlier. So, what exactly are the views of doctors in the medical community regarding the theory of the soul’s existence? The majority still fundamentally hold an attitude of skepticism.

Although the famous American Dr. Raymond, in order to understand the dynamics of life after death, gathered one hundred people who had been diagnosed as definitively dead and yet miraculously revived two or three days later, to investigate the circumstances during the period from death to revival and make records respectively, he discovered that there is indeed a clear phenomenon of life continuing after death. However, this Dr. Raymond still does not easily draw a definitive conclusion and is still continuing his experiments.

Therefore, up to now, what is a soul? And what is meant by a good spirit or an evil spirit? There is fundamentally no way to verify them. Thus, regarding the phenomenon of ghost possession, doctors can only explain this phenomenon based on “psychoanalysis,” believing it to be a branch of “schizophrenia,” which can be said to be a kind of “psychopathology.” Although modern psychiatry acknowledges the existence of “multiple personalities,” it still explains it through “split personality.”

As for the views of religion, because there are many types of religions in the world and sects are also extremely complex, each has its own insights. But summarizing their views, they basically believe that divine spirits and evil spirits exist simultaneously, and demons belong to the ranks of evil spirits.

The views of scholars in parapsychology are: spirit possession itself is not an “illness,” but rather a latent “psychic ability” manifesting externally in a mutated way. Therefore, they argue that if this mutated psychic ability is properly guided, it will not lead to adverse results. From this perspective, these scholars view “personality” as “singular,” which seems to be the same as the medical community’s view.

The Soul Exists

Regarding the existence of the soul and soul possession, although parapsychology research institutions in the Soviet Union, the United States, and Canada, along with many scientists, have used the most precise infrared photography to capture the form of the soul, they still cannot treat it as a definitive conclusion to publicly announce its existence or non-existence. In Taiwan, too, many people have unintentionally taken photos of souls in the dark of night with ordinary cameras, and I myself have seen the ghost photos developed after being taken.

In short, everyone possesses mediumistic abilities and has this receptive function. Therefore, as long as there is a strong power of thought, regardless of whether the thought is good or evil, strong brainwaves will be generated at any time. Because of the magnetic waves in the cells, ghosts floating in the atmosphere will attach themselves to you; especially when bad thoughts are stubbornly burning, it will of course connect with the invasion of evil spirits, making you mentally tranced and adding many troubles to your daily life. Therefore, the most important thing is that people must act in the world according to their conscience.

No matter what, a ghost attaching itself to your body is not a good thing. Dealing with ghosts constantly is fundamentally something that should not happen. However, when we see some people who have very bad luck or are listless in spirit, it is also incorrect to say that they are possessed by ghosts.

In short, the existence of the soul is real. The great philosopher Plato believed that mental phenomena include all conditions of the natural world, and he also particularly believed in prophecies known through spiritual bodies, acknowledging survival after death, and that the minds of newborn children are filled with the life experiences of their previous lives. He believed that all matter in the universe possesses an endlessly generating and imperishable future.

Spiritual Power and Psychic Ability

The biggest difference between spiritual power and psychic ability is that spiritual power carries a strong religious color. Psychic ability, on the other hand, does not require communication with spirits; it is merely bringing into play the natural abilities already innately possessed. Alternatively, it elicits extrasensory abilities through scientific self-training; this kind of ability does not necessarily communicate with spirits, and there is fundamentally no need for this. Spiritual power is the connection with spirits of the spirit world, producing a kind of ability by drawing upon the power of such spirits. Many modern researchers unanimously agree that psychic ability itself should also belong to the dimension of spirits, and therefore they recognize psychic ability as being spiritual power.

However, I personally believe that spiritual power still leans heavily on the action of drawing upon the power of spirits. Its efficacy carries elements of profound mystery; the caster uses suggestion, prompting, and guidance to lead the subject of the spell, allowing them to reach a certain realm themselves. For example, the caster communicates and negotiates with a certain revered deity, but there is no witness, and others can only intuit it. But as far as psychic ability goes, up to now, what has been studied in various countries can all have its actual phenomena and conditions seen with the naked eye, so fundamentally there are still some differences.

Yet these two share one thing in common: certain abilities do not necessarily depend on the invisible power of any particular religion; from childhood onward, a considerable degree of ability is already present. In some cases, the innate endowment is not very strong, but through a sudden misfortune in life, one naturally acquires this power. For example, falling from a tree without dying, seeing souls in that instant, or being able to converse with the spirit world, or even possessing clairvoyance, extrasensory perception, or receiving messages from the sixth dimension, knowing the future, and so on. Readers have probably heard of such examples from time to time.

However, whether one is born with this ability or it is cultivated later in life, it is very difficult for the person to discover that they possess this ability, to evaluate and judge it, and to determine the standards by which to assess it. Furthermore, even if one discovers that one possesses such an ability, how to direct and develop it is even more impossible. Many people are often influenced by reports in newspapers, magazines, and other media, and tend to indulge in self-fantasy, believing that they already possess a considerable degree of ability. They do not realize it is an illusion, and even become intoxicated with themselves, causing adverse aftereffects. Because they cannot judge its accuracy, even if they do discover that they truly have such an ability, their eagerness for good results and improper application bring about counterproductive effects.

Spiritual power or supernatural ability is a kind of force that naturally forms between human beings and all things. How to adjust and develop it depends entirely on one’s own application. Of course, one must rely on one’s own willpower to direct, control, and inspire it. If one does not know how to control it, it is like an automobile without a steering wheel.

The greater the power of a supernatural ability, the correspondingly greater its danger. For example, a person born with supernatural abilities may, without being consciously aware of it, feel hatred toward someone. Even though it is not intentional, the person who is hated may fall ill or be injured. Therefore, for those who possess a considerable degree of supernatural ability, one’s personal cultivation must not be neglected. In view of this, through this book, I offer some correct knowledge about supernatural abilities. And it is not merely knowledge—I hope you can understand the harmony of all things and contribute your supernatural abilities more toward the happiness of humanity.

3 The Body’s Transmitting and Receiving Station

Your Body Is a Transmitting and Receiving Station

In our daily lives, because we are overly attached to the things right before our eyes, in this materially civilized society, our distracting thoughts multiply.

Usually, when we discover unusual paranormal phenomena in the various organs of our body, we mostly assume that it is probably caused by physical and mental fatigue resulting from having too many things to attend to, and so we set it aside and do not take it seriously. If these abnormal phenomena are not caused by a cold or other illnesses, you might want to observe your surroundings more closely, or think about your experiences yesterday or a few days ago, or even several months ago, and try to infer what might happen at this moment, tomorrow, or even in the next few days.

Due to negligence or indecisiveness, you may have suffered setbacks or missed excellent opportunities—opportunities that might have brought you boundless good fortune. Often, it is only after things have happened that you suddenly realize: “No wonder these past few days, it felt as though something was pressing down on my chest, making me feel gloomy, or my eyelid kept twitching nonstop…” and you sigh with endless regret.

If you can pay attention to the various signs before things happen, you will not have regrets. Now I would like to ask readers, as you read, to recall and trace back past events that have occurred around you, as a form of retrospective verification.

For example, regarding things that happened yesterday or last week, or even longer ago, or before any accident happened to your closest friend, what did your body feel, and what was unusual in your surrounding environment? Something you had long yearned to buy was unexpectedly delivered right to your door; you suddenly received notice to go collect money—money you had long thought was hopeless. Things like these, whether good or bad—before these things happened, what phenomena occurred in your body? For instance, if you had never broken a rice bowl while eating, and yet it happened at that particular time; or a small fish bone unexpectedly pierced your gum; or you cut your finger while chopping vegetables, and so on.

All of these phenomena can be said to be messages sent from the spirit world of the fourth dimension, or from the spiritual waves of distress calls sent by our relatives, friends, siblings, classmates, colleagues, or superiors in our third dimension, and even from strangers with no relation to us. Due to differences in individual receiving capacity, there may be situations where the message is fully received or not fully received. In short, communication between living spirits and other living spirits, and between living spirits and souls of the fourth dimension, is carried out and completed through this method.

The so-called premonitions or sixth sense should also be considered a kind of sign within this scope—it just depends on whether you believe it or not.

If a person, in the instant of facing danger or at the moment of greatest joy, always has the image of their closest or most intimate friend, or the person they most respect, surface in their mind, wanting to let that person know—therefore, the brain continuously shapes the images of these people and sends out waves of longing. The power of these “waves” expands like ripples, the waves spreading layer by layer horizontally, thereby forming an electromagnetic field that extends until reaching the longed-for object or person. If you cannot help but cry out loud, its power will surely have astonishing speed and depth. If the name you call is that of your loved one, and that person happens to be lying in bed reading, they will, as if having received an electric shock or having a bucket of cold water splashed on them, suddenly sit up from the bed.

Children in particular, because of their innocence and fewer distracting thoughts, have a “telepathic process” that is simple and clear. For example, when a child accidentally falls into a very deep ditch on the way home, he will think of the mother who is closest to him, cares for him most, and loves him most, and cry out loudly calling “Mommy.” If this mother is cooking in the kitchen, she will definitely experience a very uneasy sensation — for example, while chopping vegetables she unexpectedly cuts her skin, or drops a plate, and so on.

Many of these phenomena cannot be verified by science, yet we absolutely must not, simply because science cannot verify them, dismiss them outright as superstition or mere coincidence. It would be unfair to explain them in such a manner.

Therefore, so-called spiritual power is the energy of transmission and reception that we humans inherently possess, amplified through self-enhancement, so that at any time one can send or receive according to one’s own wishes, and thereby accomplish things beneficial to society and humanity in one’s personal career or family life.

Mere Coincidence?

Having discussed information transmission between dimensions or within the same dimension, after my many experiences and the statistical results of friends’ experiments, I have found that many of these phenomena are by no means chance or coincidence. Yet we humans stubbornly refuse to believe this fact and instead treat it as coincidence, dismissing it. No phenomenon whatsoever arises without a cause producing its effect.

However, humanity shares a common weakness: though on the surface one may not say it, deep down one continually dwells on abnormal bodily sensations. For instance, when one’s ear itches — why does it keep itching incessantly? That is puzzling. It is the “telepathy” or “spiritual wave” being transmitted to you, urging you on, or signaling that you should take some action. Thinking of the plate broken during the day, the person involved will feel uneasy, and as night falls, the restless emotions stir even more.

Here, one cannot help but bring up the saying: “Better to believe it exists than to believe it does not.” This is not telling people to blindly and superstitiously believe in things fabricated from nothing, nor is it telling you to be so nervously agitated that you cannot sit still, or to become dizzy with excitement over some good news about to come your way. If there is an ominous sign, then immediately take precautions, observe the circumstances around you, and handle things carefully — at the very least, for that day or those several days, think thrice before acting or speaking. If it is a good omen, then you should work even harder than usual to seize the favorable opportunity. You should understand that all abnormal phenomena do not arise by chance.

4 Extraordinary Abilities

Special Perception

We ordinary people all rely on the five senses — sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch — to live, but beyond these sensory organs, we also possess a kind of “special perception.” Because it is an ability that transcends ordinary common phenomena, it is collectively called “Extra Sensory Perception” (abbreviated as ESP).

Because it is a perceptual ability beyond the five senses, some people also call it the sixth sense. If we follow the aforementioned discussion of the spiritual, the third dimension, and the fourth dimension, the author believes that whether one calls it the sixth sense or extraordinary ability, it all belongs to the phenomenon of supernormal capability.

Originally, any ability involving supernormal phenomena is, in currently popular terminology, called “extraordinary ability,” and this includes the “spiritual power” mentioned earlier — all can be said to belong to this category. In reality, there is fundamentally no distinction within it itself. The author has only superficially divided it into two parts so that readers can more easily remember the training methods.

One part is the power induced from abilities originally existing within the human body through special internal and external training or techniques, put into practical action, and mostly limited to use by rational and reasonable human beings, since other creatures or plants cannot apply them on their own. This kind of extraordinary ability is designated as “spiritual power.”

The other part is the ability to directly perceive or propel people, events, and things in a single instant, without going through any troublesome process of reasoning or judgment — this is what is called “extraordinary ability.”

“Extraordinary ability” is a capacity that, without the application of any technique, can naturally and effortlessly overflow. Living creatures can likewise manifest it — for example, birds calling incessantly at night, or the restlessness of wild animals — all of which can prove that these animals already knew an earthquake was coming. In our daily lives, nearly everyone is exercising this ability; it is merely a matter of degree. For instance, children try to guess what kind of toy Daddy will bring home after work tonight. After making a guess, it turns out someone guessed correctly. This “guessing” is a motive and a sign that triggers extraordinary ability.

When classmates are walking home from school, or you are on your way home from work, you keep feeling that someone is following you. If you hear footsteps, they sound like they might belong to a certain old classmate. You turn around to look, and sure enough, it is a classmate you have not seen for many years. Many people have had this kind of experience, and it can be said to be a form of special perception.

Cultivating Extraordinary Abilities

To obtain extraordinary ability, one must first hold a heart of faith. A person with confidence has the possibility of obtaining this ability, because it is not a specialty product belonging to a select few. If you do not believe in its existence, even when it actually happens, you will miss it face-to-face and be unable to recognize it.

Many people believe that extraordinary ability is something absurd, unscientific, nothing but deception or mere coincidence. There are also some people in this material world who, steeped in the tide of faith in the omnipotence of science, not only mock any discussion of “extraordinary ability” but also regard it as shameful and backward!

In fact, with the development of scientific civilization to this day, humanity has already felt a kind of oppressive emptiness. It is as though having invented the power of nuclear energy, we are at every moment in fear of being destroyed by that very nuclear power, leaving people in a state of panic, not knowing which way to turn, and instead being squeezed dizzy by the very things we ourselves have created. Therefore, in European and American countries, a wave of enthusiasm for researching the spirit has subsequently arisen, and it has gradually been discovered that “extraordinary abilities” do indeed exist within the universe and within each and every one of us. The hope is thereby to govern the world effortlessly, and the hope is thereby to subdue the enemy without fighting.

In terms of methods for researching extraordinary abilities and mind science, Britain can be said to have achieved the most notable results. It is said that they have trained and utilized this ability in tracking down criminal suspects, as well as in enterprise development, making many contributions. The United States followed suit, and in 1930, established the “Institute of Parapsychology” at Duke University, where Dr. and Mrs. Rhine conducted various research experiments. In order to unravel the mystery of extraordinary abilities and further develop them, they designed many experimental instruments. Most noteworthy is that the Soviet Union also allocates billions of yuan from its national budget each year to conduct this research.

The author believes that these nations, which prize science above all and emphasize logic, are all working so hard to research and develop this ability. We, who have always emphasized spiritual civilization, should work even harder to research it, so that everyone can cultivate this quality, and everyone can apply it toward social prosperity and harmony, thereby enhancing our collective happiness — is this not all the more necessary?

Five Types of Supernormal Phenomena

*Five types of supernormal phenomena: Clairvoyance, Precognition, Past Cognition, Psychokinesis, and Spirit Communication.

Beyond the perceptual abilities of the five senses, there are also the following five abilities:

1 Clairvoyance, also known as penetrating sight, mind-reading, and so on. Although it refers to distant perception, in reality, regardless of distance, this ability can be exercised without limit. It is the ability to see through people, events, and things without using the physical eye. No matter the distance — whether hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands of miles — all dynamics can be seen at a glance, and the situations within fully understood.

2 Precognition, which refers to a supernormal ability to know in advance about events that will occur in the future.

3 Past Cognition, which is a supernormal ability to know about events from decades ago, or even from much more distant times.

4 Psychokinesis, which is a supernormal motivating ability produced through the power of the mind. By forming a strong image in the mind, one constructs a blueprint of the desired result of one’s intention as though it has already been produced, thereby causing people, events, and things to “act at will.”

5 Spirit Communication, which is the most distinctive ability among the five. That is, the ability to communicate with spirits of the spirit realm, producing spiritual power to heal illness or to gain new knowledge, inspiration, and other abilities.

Mind Science

Our country is a nation of letters, and our people like to use mystical and colorful modes of expression to describe things. We often employ fanciful imagination, deliberately embellishing a matter with unfathomable and inscrutably mysterious language, as if otherwise it would not manifest its power and mystique. These terms, without a doubt, lead everyone into the tunnel of ancient superstition. Today, extraordinary abilities have long since become a common term used worldwide. In advanced countries, research is conducted on the foundations of physics, chemistry, electrical science, medicine, and psychology, and it is an established branch of science.

Yet among our general public, the term “spirit communication” is used in place of “extraordinary abilities,” thereby distorting what is originally a scientific concept rooted in innate ability. Our people love to express things in terms of “spirits,” as if speaking of them in any other way would feel insufficiently weighty or insufficiently miraculous. What is clearly a simple matter must be described in the most complicated terms. In reality, spirit communication and mediumship all fall under the category of resonance within extraordinary abilities — “telepathy.” The “heavenly eye” is essentially the same as “clairvoyance.” Those so-called Yin-Yang eyes, thousand-li eyes, and wind-accompanying ears all stem from natural abilities — there is nothing strange or wondrous about them at all. Because the general public uses mystical terminology to describe them, it gives everyone a sense of something eerie.

I sincerely urge fellow enthusiasts who enjoy researching this field of study to avoid using such terminology as much as possible, so as not to cause readers to mystify things on their own. We should approach our research with modern scientific concepts, and only through a shared consensus among all of us can we elevate the level of our research. Only in this way can we prevent charlatans from using it to spread deceptive talk and mislead the public. In recent years, quite a number of publications on supernatural phenomena have appeared on the market, yet almost every one of them contains terms like spirit communication and Yin-Yang eyes. On one occasion, members of the “Japan Super-Science Association” asked me: “What are Yin-Yang eyes?” and “What is the heavenly eye?” He said that these terms would lead people to associate them with ghosts and monsters, rather than with what is currently the hottest research topic — “parapsychology.”

Advanced countries are actively cultivating talent in supernormal abilities from the grassroots level, disseminating knowledge in this area through various media, with the aim of raising awareness among all citizens. This is worthy of our emulation.

5 Characteristics of Extraordinary Abilities

Regional Differences

Anyone can possess spiritual power or extraordinary abilities, but upon further observation and study, it is not difficult to find that the exercise of extraordinary abilities differs, to a greater or lesser degree, in various ways.

Western countries are more scientifically developed, and in Western countries, psychic phenomena of “poltergeist” disturbances often occur, such as: beds floating up, tables and chairs moving on their own, furniture and vases colliding with each other. In Asian countries, apart from movies, there are no actual occurrences of these phenomena.

Similarly, in the deep mountains of the Philippines, there is the ability of psychic surgery—that is, without using a surgical scalpel, using bare hands directly on the patient’s affected area, the fingers act like a surgical knife, inserting into the patient’s flesh to remove various malignant tumors. However, this is quite rare in areas such as Japan, Korea, and China. In India, cases of reincarnation are frequently heard of, whereas in other countries and regions they are relatively fewer.

Regarding this discrepancy, my personal view is that the reason “poltergeist” phenomena in those Western countries are rarely seen in Asian countries and regions stems from the differences in lifestyle between the two. The regions of Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia have temperate or subtropical climates, with frequent rainfall throughout the year and fertile soil, and everyone lives an agrarian life. People in these regions depend on changes in weather for their livelihood, blending with nature and coexisting with the natural world. Therefore, when it comes to food, it is plant-based, consisting of vegetables containing multiple types of fiber, consumed in large quantities; as a result, the digestive system must bear a considerable load, so gastrointestinal activity becomes more vigorous.

In the West, especially in the various countries of Europe, the land is relatively poor. In Germany, for example, traces of glaciers can be found everywhere. There is much wasteland, and the only agricultural crops are sweet potatoes and potatoes. In desert countries such as those of the Arab world and Egypt, there is only animal husbandry; the inhabitants are all nomadic and hunting peoples, chasing wild animals to make a living. People who live a pastoral life have more developed bones and hearts, because the skeletal frame and heart of the human body must be strong in order to hunt animals.

Differences in Lifestyle

Asia and the countries of Europe and the Middle East have these different lifestyles, which have continued almost uninterrupted since ancient times with a long historical background. As a result, people’s extrasensory abilities naturally differ. This is, in fact, nothing strange—it is an inevitable situation.

In the regions where Asians live, a plant-based diet increases the load on the gastrointestinal tract, and in order to meet the functional demands of the digestive organs, the activity of the cosmic life energy center located at the navel, called “Manipura Chakra,” naturally becomes vigorous. When this part of the human body has sufficient energy, one can naturally see places tens of thousands of kilometers away and also predict the future. This explains why there are more prophets and people with clairvoyant abilities in the Asian region than in the West.

On the other hand, those Europeans who had to walk or run for long periods across mountain ridges and wilderness needed strong cardiac activity; naturally, the area corresponding to the heart, at the center of the chest, called “Anahata Chakra,” tended to become enhanced. If the ability of the chakra at this location can be strengthened, it naturally flourishes. Therefore, they are more adept at producing psychokinetic types of extrasensory ability—there are more such individuals.

We often see in Western films scenes where vases fly through the air on their own or glass windows shatter by themselves; these are all manifestations of “psychokinesis.” Such phenomena are by no means merely cinematic footage—they are absolutely real facts.

Whether it is the chakra serving the digestive organs or the chakra at the heart region, once any one part is strengthened, the nature of one’s extrasensory ability also differs accordingly. These chakras are invisible to the naked eye; they exist in a dimension (the sixth dimension). Differences in lifestyle can also produce different levels of extrasensory ability in terms of the flourishing of religion or science. Even within religion itself, the degree to which people practice their faith in Christianity versus Eastern Buddhism, Daoism, Islam, and so on will also influence the nature and development of extrasensory abilities.

Spiritual Healing

Those who understand spiritual healing or psychic surgery mostly appear in uncivilized regions where transportation is inconvenient, where people are poor and still live ancient or even primitive lives, and where, of course, there are no remedies of civilized medical prescriptions.

In a place with extremely harsh environmental conditions, people are prone to illness and injury, and various pathogens easily breed and spread; under such circumstances, praying to the spirits of faith is a very natural behavior. Of course, in this state of desperate earnestness, many people hope to borrow the power of the divine to cure those suffering from illness and pain. Out of need, people use certain incantations combined with personal faith and imagination to connect with the earth’s magnetism and higher-dimensional energy, converting and adding methods of shamanism to treat those suffering from illness—naturally, there are also successful cases of healing. This type of ability is particularly common in countries such as India, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

Extrasensory Phenomena

Many people want to understand: since everyone possesses extrasensory abilities, and as long as one is a living being, one is born with such abilities, then exactly when will they appear? This needs to be explained in two situations.

The first is that in moments of extreme urgency, abilities can be emitted instantaneously—for example, when fire is approaching one’s eyebrows, or when floodwater has risen to one’s neck. Additionally, when hatred toward a person reaches the point of gnashing teeth, or when one’s emotions regarding a certain matter have reached the limit of what one can no longer endure.

The second situation can be described as the opposite of the examples given above. It occurs when a person is in a drowsy, stuporous state, or in extreme mental fatigue, wanting to sleep but unable to control themselves. When conscious activity diminishes and the body is in an unsettled state, this state resembles the period of light sleep. Generally, sleep goes through stages: the onset-of-sleep period, light-sleep period, initial-sleep period, moderate-sleep period, deep-sleep period, and paradoxical sleep period. During the sleep cycle, these stages repeat continuously. For example, in a single night’s sleep of eight hours, sleep includes periods of light and sound sleep, repeated several times.

Here, the stage most related to extraordinary abilities is the paradoxical sleep phase. Although the person involved has their eyes closed, their eyeballs constantly move under the eyelids with irregular movement; their brainwaves also show the same pattern as before sleep; their heart activity also exhibits irregular movement; their breathing is also irregular, and electrical currents in the skin are difficult to release. Consciousness is in a semi-awake state, and the physical body is in an unstable condition; this period is called the paradoxical sleep phase.

A book has been widely circulated in the United States, Britain, and France titled Introduction to Extraordinary Abilities. This book is co-authored by two scholars specializing in extraordinary abilities research, and its content includes “Testing Your Extraordinary Ability Aptitude.” This book’s profound content does not affect its best-selling status. In the past, introductory books on extraordinary abilities mostly just described various extraordinary phenomena, but this book lacks any descriptions of phenomena. It is purely based on experimental statistics and evaluation methods, and the final chapter even introduces computer programs for extraordinary ability testing. In this book, one discovers a slightly different perspective regarding the view of “when extraordinary abilities will appear.” However, I still insist on the aforementioned two situations, because they are derived from my personal actual experiences and case statistics from hundreds of individuals.

Arguing over whether extraordinary abilities actually exist is meaningless; the most important thing is to have reasonable evidence. You say that Guanyin or Living Buddha Ji Gong is possessing your body, but that is only what you say; others have not seen it. You cannot dismiss others’ views by claiming that you have a spiritual aura while others do not; this is highly illogical and impractical. We must have reasonable evidence; this is what I have repeatedly emphasized. At the same time, this book contains ample and specialized discussions, making it suitable for the general public to read.

6 Developing Extraordinary Abilities

The Energy Source of Extraordinary Abilities

The “Dharma” transmitted by Esoteric Buddhism is precisely the technique for developing spiritual power. People in the Dharma-Ending Age mostly rely on material things for their lives and livelihood, looking down upon relying on the spiritual realm, and have gradually become people who value utility and reality. Relying solely on religious doctrines cannot lead to timely awakening and results, nor can it inspire a spirit of self-discipline and self-restraint in people, let alone enable them to save others. For example, seeing a drowning child and wanting to save him, but unfortunately lacking knowledge of water properties, not knowing how to swim, and not knowing water rescue methods, with no one else around; at this critical moment, one can only helplessly watch that child drown.

What is the energy source that generates extraordinary abilities? From where is it drawn out? This energy source is, of course, drawn out from the “spirit” inherent in oneself. The “spirit” dwells in various parts of the five viscera, so the driving force that generates spiritual power is naturally developed from here. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the aforementioned parts act as the general headquarters of spiritual power. There are a total of ten locations for these headquarters, and each part contains different and rich energy sources and strengths. Among them, five parts are relatively easy to utilize, igniting the energy source to project spiritual power. The people with this kind of ability that the author usually encounters or hears about, according to my personal judgment, only utilize and draw out three or four types of power. If one can exceed five types, or even reach ten types of spiritual power, then that can truly be called “rare and precious.”

Some people who practice internal qigong also wish to acquire this kind of ability, believing that the power of these parts seems to have similarities with internal qigong. However, after a long period of practice, they still see no effects and feel disappointed. Some people then come to me to ask for the real reason; of course, I just answer them according to my personal views.

The development procedures and processes in this aspect, while sharing some similarities with internal qigong training methods, still possess many drastically different points. For example, some people are bedridden for years, and after their sick body recovers, they suddenly feel that they inherently possess a certain kind of paranormal ability. Some children, after being in a sickbed for years, surprisingly undergo a change overnight; math problems previously considered the most difficult can now be solved merely using “mental math.” There are also some people who appear gentle and frail, yet after development and cultivation, they surprisingly also acquire this kind of ability. Some children achieve the expected effects immediately upon practicing. Therefore, developing this kind of ability depends on one’s innate conditions and various objective internal factors during post-natal growth; it is not necessarily measured by whether the body’s external appearance is strong or not.

When the body’s thyroid gland, hormones, endocrine secretions, and various internal organs are unhealthy, any amount of practice is in vain. This is like a house with a splendidly painted exterior, but all the building materials inside are rotten; it cannot support the house—the principle is exactly the same. Conversely, even if the house’s exterior is unsightly, if the building materials used are solid and durable, such a house can naturally be supported. Therefore, if you find that your internal body lacks soundness, you should first make them healthy before developing this kind of ability.

The five parts of the human body referred to above are: the crown of the head, the throat, the navel, the chest, and the kidneys.

The Properties of the Five Spiritual Sources

Humanity survives within the environment of the “Five Elements” of heaven and earth—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—and these “Five Elements” are respectively associated with the natural imagery of the Eight Trigrams. Then the five aforementioned parts also form an integrated power with the “Five Elements” and the “Eight Trigrams.” These five parts, in addition to your inherent internal spiritual power, also blend in the objective power of the Five Elements and the Eight Trigrams. Only by developing this potential ability—which is neither internal nor external, but a unified oneness of internal and external—can one acquire “extraordinary abilities.”

To facilitate easy distinction and understanding, the inner Five Elements, the latent Eight Trigrams, and the properties of power of the five spiritual source parts are briefly described below:

1 Head (temples, eyes, forehead): In the Five Elements it belongs to Wood; corresponds to the Zhen and Xun trigrams; can transcend time and space and possesses the extraordinary psychic power to manipulate all things.

2 Throat (pituitary gland): In the Five Elements it belongs to Fire; corresponds to the Li trigram; can perceive the movements of people’s hearts and possesses the extraordinary psychic power of distant knowing.

3 Navel (abdomen, spleen): In the Five Elements it belongs to Earth; corresponds to the Gen and Kun trigrams; can emit intense thought-waves, govern the various tissue structures of the body, perceive illness, and can heal the illnesses of others.

4 Chest (heart, thymus): In the Five Elements it belongs to Metal; corresponds to the Qian and Dui trigrams; possesses telepathic perception and the extraordinary psychic power to communicate with souls.

5 Waist (kidneys, gonads): In the Five Elements it belongs to Water; corresponds to the Kan trigram; possesses the extraordinary psychic power to enhance health and vitality and to confer ample endurance.

  • The five psychic sources: the head (temples, eyes, forehead), the throat (pituitary gland), the navel (abdomen, spleen), the chest (heart, thymus), and the waist (kidneys, gonads).

Characteristics of the Five Psychic Sources

After understanding the nature of the psychic sources, one should further explore their distinctive features. The psychic power emitted from these regions, apart from the formidable capacities described above, must also possess a power that is distinctively representative. From within our body there are ten regions altogether from which emissions can be induced. According to the records of actual personal experiences—both Chinese and foreign—of those who have obtained psychic power through research, training at each psychic-source region requires, on average, at least six months before it can be put into practical use and produce results. Naturally, this varies depending on a person’s innate endowment and the condition of the five viscera and six bowels within the body. Some people do not need six months to achieve the expected results; others may require eight months, or even more than a year. If the training times for all ten psychic-source regions are added together, a minimum of more than five years is required.

Taking an average human lifespan of seventy years, from birth through infancy, childhood, and adolescence, eighteen years must be subtracted—and all of that time is spent in study. After further deducting time for sleep, eating, illness, and daily activities, there is truly not much time left. In youth and middle age, one is busy with career and making a living, with no leisure to train. Even if there is time to train, it is intermittent and merely adds fatigue, which is not only utterly unhelpful but also diminishes one’s original interest in psychic power, leading in turn to a loss of confidence. Of course, there may be some who can overcome all obstacles; by the time they have cultivated even one type of psychic power, they are already nearing life’s twilight.

To speak in the most practical terms: the purpose of training extraordinary abilities is to harness their power for the well-being of one’s own body and mind, the happiness of one’s family, and the advancement of interpersonal relationships or career. This way of thinking may seem to carry a somewhat utilitarian tone, yet from the standpoint of society and the nation, a person sound in body and mind will of course contribute to social development and national prosperity—at the very least, that person will not be a “burden” on society. A person with deficiencies in body or mind, by contrast, can offer no benefit whatsoever to this society or nation. At present, curious young people try every possible means to unlock this psychic power; if they do not go astray into delusion, they wish to use it to “abet evil.” Their methods are either skewed and perverse, or their intentions are improper—benefiting neither the nation nor themselves.

Therefore, from among these ten psychic sources, the author has selected five that are relatively easy to train in daily life and do not require a great investment of time to acquire. Their formidable power is presented here for readers to study and practice. The psychic power of these five source regions alone is more than enough to benefit you endlessly. Described with the common phrase “economical and practical,” readers will surely agree. To highlight the special characteristics hidden within these five psychic-source regions, they are listed below:

1 Head: Can activate the psychic-energy body, detach from the physical body and transcend the material world, and communicate thoughts with the spirit realm of the fourth dimension.

2 Throat: Can attain the realm of “clairaudience,” enabling one at will to hear all movements in the natural world and the circumstances of people traveling afar.

3 Navel and Dantian: Can strengthen liver function, emit masses of qi, and protect the body.

4 Chest: Emits thought-waves, fortifies one’s own thoughts against invasion by external forces, and can also instill confidence in others.

5 Waist and gonads: Can sustain unflagging vital energy and the formidable power of abundant vigor.

The Hub of Psychic Sources

* Gas Exchange in Respiration

Respiration is an important starting point in the process of activating extraordinary abilities. In ordinary human physiology, the purpose of respiration is gas exchange: oxygen is drawn into the lungs, then passes through the alveolar membranes and the walls of the capillaries into the bloodstream. Through blood circulation, oxygen is delivered to all tissues so that cells can fully utilize it.

Some of the metabolic byproducts in the tissues are transported by the blood to the lungs, where they become carbon dioxide and pass through the alveoli to be expelled from the body with exhaled air. The gases in air include oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. Among these, nitrogen is the most abundant; according to medical figures, it accounts for approximately seventy-nine percent, oxygen for 20.96 percent, and carbon dioxide for only four ten-thousandths.

One indispensable catalyst in the realm of psychic power is “oxygen,” because oxygen produces a combustion effect within the body’s tissues: it burns sugars, amino acids, and fatty acids to generate energy. The activation of extraordinary abilities requires this energy, and this energy is replenished through the process of respiration, thereby obtaining fresh and ample energy. During respiration, gases exist in the blood in two forms: one is a “physical process” and the other is a “chemical process.” In the former, gases dissolve in the blood and become “free gas”; in the latter, when gases chemically combine with substances in the blood, they become “bound gas.” In the total respiratory volume, apart from free gas, all the rest is bound gas.

According to the author’s statistical experience, a person’s supernatural ability is formed at the very moment this free gas is produced; therefore, the respiratory system must have an appropriate degree of “artificial control.” This “artificial control” means using the thoughts and wishes at that moment to form a central idea, which is the blueprint of the events or figures you imagine. By striving to eliminate distracting thoughts, you do not breathe immediately after exhaling; instead, you retain the breath in the Dantian through a willed mental image, or what may be called a “mind map,” and then control it, exhaling it out of the body very slowly. The primary purpose of this action is to unify the spirit and concentrate the outline of your will. In terms of physiological phenomena, this view, although a bit far-fetched, is not an overly absurd theory.

*‘Metabolism’ Can Accelerate and Enrich Inductive Abilities

The breathing mentioned above is the specific method for promoting “metabolism.” The so-called “metabolism” refers to the continuous renewal function of the protoplasm of the human body. This protoplasm refers to “the raw materials that make up the human body and even the bodies of other organisms.” It constantly decomposes its own substances to generate energy, and on the other hand, it ingests external substances to replenish the consumption. This transformation of matter and energy is called “metabolism” in physiology.

Today’s physiologists have discovered profound chemical and physical scientific principles in the process of transforming matter and energy, and have divided them into three main categories: carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, as the primary baselines of metabolism.

Carbohydrates are absorbed into the blood as monosaccharides and converted into glucose, which is supplied to various tissues of the body for use. In terms of nutritional value, glucose provides “heat,” and it is an indispensable element in the dynamics of supernatural phenomena. Proteins and fats are broken down and transformed to act as “energy.” This heat and energy are naturally the pivot that triggers physiological responsiveness. “Responsiveness” refers to the excited state of the protoplasm when stimulated by the environment.

The protoplasm of various living organisms has different degrees and natures of responsiveness. Some organisms whose nerve cells have exceptionally strong responsiveness often exhibit extraordinary sensory phenomena. The ways in which various protoplasms exhibit excitatory responses are also different. For example, muscle cells contract when excited, and gland cells secrete when excited. Moreover, when excited, there is always a potential change with a tendency for an electric current. These three—heat, energy, and potential—draw the supernatural ability from its hiding place to the outside of the body, producing astonishing inductive abilities.

*Endocrine Glands Are a Force that Promotes Supernatural Power

The manifestation of supernatural power begins with “breathing” and is shaped into an extraordinary air mass through “metabolism.” The endocrine glands take this air mass and construct it into an invisible force according to one’s thoughts. These thoughts are emitted along a circle of intent that connects to the higher-dimensional realm.

This kind of statement seems to have no basis and is a theory that today’s scientists and psychologists cannot accept. The author is neither a medical expert nor a scientist or psychologist, and cannot present strong facts to debate and study with these experts. However, based on personal experience, I have found that when a person is nervous or undergoes a drastic emotional change, saliva constantly wells up through the throat. Another phenomenon obtained from experience is: when one concentrates the mind, strengthens mental power, eliminates distracting thoughts, and causes an object to move, thereby producing a physical phenomenon, the body keeps sweating. Yet the sweat exuded at this time feels almost like a cold sweat. Furthermore, observing some hypnotists and those being hypnotized, they all exhibit similar phenomena. Of course, to the average medical professional, this reasoning is nothing more than a common physiological state, a trivial piece of common sense not worth mentioning. However, my view is different; there must be another reason behind it. In the vast, obscure universe, it seems as if a trace of emitting “energy fluid” has been left for living beings.

The first endocrine gland to mention is the thyroid gland. It is shaped like a shield and located on both sides of the upper end of the trachea. It is composed of countless small sacs. The walls of the small sacs consist of a layer of square epithelial cells, and inside the sacs is a gelatinous substance of hormones secreted by the epithelial cells. This “hormone” is the dynamic source that triggers supernatural power. Depending on the dynamics of your breathing and the stillness achieved by eliminating distracting thoughts, it surges forth, exerting infinite activating power. There are many capillaries within these small sacs, allowing the hormones inside the sacs to seep in at any time and enter the blood circulation through the capillaries.

The secretion of the thyroid gland is called thyroxine, and an important component of its composition is iodine. Humans ingest iodine from food, and a portion of it is utilized by the thyroid gland to manufacture hormones. The efficacy of thyroxine can promote the decomposition of proteins, promote the oxidation of carbohydrates and fats, and increase “thermal energy” to promote tissue activity. This thermal energy is also a fortress that triggers supernatural power, functioning like an engine.

In addition, the parathyroid glands, pituitary gland, adrenal glands, islets of Langerhans, and reproductive glands are all interconnected and affect those five spiritual sources—the top of the head, throat, navel, chest, and kidneys. They are the energy reservoirs on the ring belt of our lives.

Quiet Sitting

In ordinary times, we often hear teachers in the classroom telling students to listen with an “open mind”; on the sports field, we frequently hear coaches telling the competing athletes, “Don’t be nervous” and to “relax” as much as possible; doctors tell patients to “calm down” their state of mind. On the surface, these words do not sound particularly outstanding; they are merely words of general encouragement or admonition carrying emotional comfort. However, within these phrases, despite the different words or tones, when summed up, there is only one meaning, and that is “quietness.” This proves that people have realized its value in ordinary life and thus apply it to interpersonal relationships or handling affairs.

In an emergency, such as a fire, panicking will instead prevent you from escaping. In all things, one must remain composed. As for keeping one’s composure, this too emphasizes that a person must maintain “stillness” in order to handle all kinds of problems. Examples such as maintaining an open mind, relaxing one’s mood, and thinking thrice before acting all illustrate the value of “stillness.” With tranquility comes resourcefulness; with stillness comes a kind of courage. “Stillness” brings you many benefits.

*One must maintain “stillness” in order to handle all kinds of problems. Tranquility gives rise to resourcefulness and courage. By maintaining proper tranquility, your spirit will rise forth, emitting “spiritual waves” to deal with the difficulties at hand.

When a person’s physical body maintains proper tranquility, your own spirit will rise forth, emitting “spiritual waves” to deal with the difficulties at hand. Traffic accidents are mostly caused by an inability to control one’s impatient temperament, recklessly running red lights or rushing to overtake other vehicles. These causes are largely disasters brought about by a mind that cannot be stilled.

The emission of spiritual power in Esoteric Buddhism uses the “stillness” within a state of stillness to restrain one’s own physical body, thereby overflowing with spiritual energy and putting it to use. All things begin with “stillness,” which shows just how important “stillness” is. When “stillness” is mentioned, one immediately associates it with the efficacy of “sitting meditation.” In recent years, countries around the world have continuously researched the mysteries of this area. The author has also heard of a postal worker at a post office who developed stomach cancer. In his despair, he ate pineapple every day and practiced sitting meditation for three months. His spirits gradually improved, and a year later when he went to National Taiwan University Hospital for an examination, it was discovered that the cancer cells in his stomach showed no further signs of spreading.

Does “sitting meditation” truly possess miraculous power in the treatment of cancer? To date, there is still no definitive proof. However, Western doctors generally agree that “sitting meditation” should be beneficial for stabilizing one’s mental state, especially for patients with chronic illnesses. Buddhist “meditative concentration,” Daoist “sitting meditation,” and even prayer in churches, Islamic fasting periods, and seclusion all fall within the scope of sitting meditation. Nevertheless, “sitting meditation” does not necessarily require religious faith as a prerequisite for entry. Its methods are quite numerous, because it is a technique that utilizes the mind.

Currently, there are three forms of “stillness” popular throughout the world: the first is the meditative concentration of the Chan school, the second is yoga, and the third is Transcendental Meditation. According to many masters in this field, without a qualified teacher guiding from the side, the practice can sometimes instead cause endless harm. This is especially true if one practices “sitting meditation” out of curiosity, as it is easy to “fall into deviation and enter demonic states.” The reason is: it is inevitable that some people will trap themselves in illusory realms and be unwilling to pull themselves out, resulting in adverse consequences.

The “stillness” of yoga pays particular attention to dietary issues during the period of cultivation, which is to say, a “vegetarian diet.” They believe that a vegetarian diet helps with the progress of sitting meditation, so they avoid eating meat, fish, eggs, onions, mushrooms, alcohol, and intoxicating foods, because these foods can cause people to develop roughness, laziness, and sensual desires, thereby becoming obstacles for practitioners and making it difficult to achieve spiritual transcendence.

Yoga uses various animal postures as a means of breaking through, even transcending the consciousness constrained by the physical body. Therefore, during their cultivation, their postures and positions include forms such as the “cobra,” “locust,” “frog,” and “rabbit.” Through these movements, they stimulate the glands, muscles, and chakras, restoring bodily functions to normal and eliminating illness and pain. In yoga sitting meditation, there are also postures such as the lotus position and cross-legged sitting, similar to those in Chan meditative concentration. During cultivation, the supervising teacher chants Sanskrit mantras alongside, utilizing the sound waves of these Sanskrit mantras and blending them with one’s own thoughts, ultimately reaching the realm of “supreme consciousness.”

“Transcendental Meditation,” abbreviated as “TM,” is an extremely popular method of sitting meditation in the United States, and many people in Taiwan also practice this method. Its characteristic is that it is quite “modernized.” The sitting posture has no fixed form, and the cultivation process is not so rigid, but its fundamental ultimate goal remains the same as the meaning of Chan meditative concentration and yoga.

In the development of spiritual power within Esoteric Buddhism, “sitting meditation” is the foremost and fundamental method. Sitting meditation occupies an extremely important part in Buddhism. In Buddhist terminology, this is called “meditative concentration.” After the precepts, through sitting meditation, one establishes the purity and stability of one’s own original spirit, and further communicates mentally with higher-level spirits to understand the truth of the universe.

Esoteric Buddhist sitting meditation is the self-elimination of distracting thoughts and the unification of mental energy. In the various aspects of spiritual power, according to the potency each possesses, one uses the breath to move energy through the channels, drawing out spiritual power to manifest externally.

For example, if at this moment you need to know news from afar, you simply enter sitting meditation, and with each inhalation and exhalation, unify your mental energy. Gradually move your “mental energy” and “qi” to the throat area, because this area is what enables the ability of “clairaudience.” At will, you can hear all movements in the natural world and the circumstances of travelers in the distance. Having gone through this sequence, one can immediately produce this spiritual power. However, dear readers, there is one point you must pay attention to: it is not something achieved with a single practice. It requires a period of cultivation, and one must persevere with consistency. It can only be obtained with a sincere heart free of impurity, and this is an essential factor.

In the thinking of most people, because sitting meditation contains the word “sit,” they believe that to practice stillness cultivation, one must be seated; otherwise, it cannot be called sitting meditation or entering meditative absorption. In reality, once you have mastered the practice, whether you are standing or leaning against a tree enjoying the cool shade, you can equally emit spiritual power through “stillness.” On a crowded bus, holding onto a hanging strap, you can likewise practice the cultivation of “stillness.” Of course, during initial training, having a tranquil environment conducive to sitting meditation and practicing in a seated posture is more appropriate. Once mastered, no matter the time, place, or posture, limitless spiritual power can well forth.

Speaking of this, readers will surely be eager to know exactly how to cultivate and practice. There is a sequence, methods, and techniques to this. If one follows the Esoteric Buddhist approach to cultivation, I am afraid it would be difficult to achieve the ideal result—first, time does not permit it, and second, there is no such environment available for you to cultivate. In reality, in the fast-paced tension of modern life, one cannot settle the mind and sustain the practice over time. This is not to say you lack patience, because real-life circumstances force you to set it aside midway. When you are halfway through your cultivation, for professional reasons you may need to travel far on a business trip; merchants must leave the city to procure goods; students have to hurry to write their weekly journals and assignments—real life is always real. We cannot disregard the life before us and shut ourselves behind closed doors to practice intensely; if tomorrow even putting food on the table becomes a problem, would you still have the leisure of mind to cultivate?

We are no longer in an agrarian age but in an industrial age. One should not end up failing to master the skills while also suffering setbacks in business; students should not neglect their coursework, see their grades plummet, and be held back a grade. When everyone is busy with their own career, duties, or further education, how could there possibly be time for cultivation! Add to that the many miscellaneous matters that life brings, all of which are enough to prevent you from cultivating smoothly.

In religion, it is believed that those living in this world exist bound by “karmic force.” If one could break through this “karmic debt” and cultivate immediately, that would be the most ideal scenario. The purpose of my writing this book is to avoid going through those complicated procedures, without delaying official or private matters, and without encroaching on your leisure time—while still being able to cultivate through it, increase physical strength, and so on. It is therefore offered to readers in the form of “knacks” for practice, as the primary objective.

The Effects of Sitting Meditation

Generally speaking, the purpose of sitting meditation is to achieve complete relaxation of the physical body, to soothe the internal organs and various body parts, and to gradually strengthen mental power through “calm energy,” thereby using this mental power to awaken the realm of spiritual power.

During sitting meditation, the most obvious sensations one feels are the smooth flow of blood and the beating of the pulse; the heart’s activity will gradually slow down, and blood pressure will also gradually decrease. In reality, this condition naturally varies from person to person—some can enter the state immediately, while others progress more slowly. This phenomenon generally requires about one month’s time, and the purpose is to induce one’s own “spirit” to emerge. This “spirit” is what Daoism calls the “original spirit.”

Another distinct sensation is: when mental power is being generated, a ray of light will radiate from the head. This location is the area between the eyebrows; in physiognomy it is called the Yintang, and in religion it is called the spiritual eye. The appearance of this ray of light can be seen without difficulty by someone who possesses the ability of the spiritual eye, but it is not easily perceived by the ordinary human eye.

When ordinary people enter meditative absorption through sitting meditation, within their closed physical eyes, many colors and flickering crystalline bodies will appear, forming numerous square or polygonal star-like shapes that slowly expand from small to large, as if being transported into the wondrous world of a novel or cartoon—overwhelmingly beautiful.

Why does this phenomenon occur? Setting aside medical and physiological perspectives, from the standpoint of the spiritual realm, it should be because your spirit has ascended, and what you are seeing is precisely your own spiritual light—the light emitted by your own body. Some people consistently maintain that this is a psychological phenomenon produced by mental fantasy, but what is it that causes you to have this phenomenon? It should be your own “spirit” that causes you to experience it. Although your two eyes have their line of sight covered by those layers of eyelids, it is still natural that you can perceive some phenomena through the eyelids.

When the various strange crystalline bodies shrink and converge into a focal point of light, your sitting meditation has only then truly stepped onto the first rung and produced results, subsequently leading you without difficulty onto the path of unified spirit.

Going Astray and Entering Demonic States

For many years, events that science cannot explain have continuously occurred—for example, unidentified flying objects, those mysterious incidents in the Bermuda Triangle—coupled with science fiction television series from Europe and America, such as Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Invisible Man, and so on—causing people of this era to fall into a state of curiosity, and also demonstrating that this century is drawing even closer to the universe.

Originally, the spirit world (referring to dimensions at the fourth dimension and above) did not wish for living beings (humans) to know about such matters; you were supposed to forget everything from before you were born into this world. However, because people’s minds are unsettled, along with the harassment of many low-level spirits, people have come to realize their own “self” amid this harassment, and have discovered the power they possess—a power invisible to the naked eye: supernatural abilities.

Supernatural ability is the most secret of celestial secrets. According to the principles of the dimensional realms, it is best for humans to believe only in perceiving and experiencing the range of various functions produced by their existing physical body, without needing to understand matters that transcend their physical five senses—that is, humans should simply live according to their physical senses. Therefore, many people oppose the theory of the soul, and even less believe in supernatural abilities. Those who do not believe are the normal ones, and this conforms exactly to the wishes of the spirit world. One could also say that this is the higher-dimensional spirit world implementing a policy of keeping the populace ignorant toward the three-dimensional earthly humans.

Yet since the twentieth century, people have betrayed one another and become selfish; between nations, there is no longer any regard for morality and righteousness; the whole world is in turmoil; people have become overly intoxicated with material life and forgotten the human-centered moral values. The atmosphere is filled with polluting dust, and so people have broken through this layer of celestial secrecy, wishing to regain their original power—a power that transcends the five senses. Since this power is a celestial secret, it also means that not necessarily everyone can obtain it—one must have innate talent and must also undergo acquired vibrational training. Even if one achieves modest success, one can only gain an insignificant “fraction” of supernatural ability.

Today humanity follows two paths to uncover the mysteries of the universe. One is the research of “physical science,” through which it breaks through outer space to probe the planets within the solar system; the other is “spiritual science,” through which it seeks to know the spiritual realms beyond the third dimension (the material world) via religion and psychical research.

But the era seems to be beset by calamities, and the universe appears gradually unable to conceal its “heavenly secrets” any longer. In every corner of the world, various individuals with spiritual abilities have emerged, and there are even said to be people who possess such powers without any training, performing spiritual healing and dispelling misfortunes for others, regardless of East or West, old or young. This situation has delivered a great shock to people everywhere. As a result, the yoga of earlier times, along with those practices once regarded as sorcery, have all been brought forth one by one for application, becoming a craze as people flock to them. People practice meditation feverishly or undergo classical secret-style training, convincing themselves that they have already attained the “Way,” that they can know the past and the future, that they can communicate with the spirit world, and even believing themselves to be reincarnations of deities or buddhas from the spirit world or higher dimensions. All manner of spirit mediums, shamans, and oracle mediums have successively emerged.

At present, the majority are those who claim to communicate with the spirit world. Have they truly seen the souls of the deceased? Do those deities truly descend and possess their bodies? On what basis? Do those souls simply materialize at will and manifest before you? From a medical perspective and physiological analysis, when a person becomes fixated on a certain thought to the point of exceeding the pituitary gland’s secretion, thereby affecting the central nervous system’s control and loosening the brainwaves, hallucinations form. This is especially so when self-driven intoxicating emotions accelerate the subconscious mind’s fantastic visions—this is an extremely dangerous matter. Lunatics and those suffering from mental illness are all subjected to such turbulence, and schizophrenia should also belong to this category.

The author once encountered a person holding several incense sticks, walking as though dodging someone, running first to the left, then to the right, bowing and worshipping, and whenever he met anyone he would urge them to hurry and take cover, then bow once more, walking in this manner along a busy street in the city. This occurred several years ago. A patrolling police officer, in order to prevent an accident from occurring, saw his bizarre appearance and went forward to question him. The person holding the incense said: “Can none of you see? The whole street is filled with the souls of the deceased. Look! Right now those souls are standing behind you, and now another one has come and is standing to your left. Why don’t you hurry up and take cover? Fine! I will bow to them on your behalf now, and that will do.” This left the police officer not knowing whether to laugh or cry. More and more onlookers gathered on the street, until finally the police officer had to protect him, first sending him to the police station and then contacting his family to take him home.

In my personal view, this person holding incense must have believed he possessed spiritual eyes, which led to his mental imbalance—he was by no means a madman. There was once a young man who, from practicing meditation, actually developed hallucinations, claiming that immortals had summoned him to the mountains. Disregarding his family’s attempts to stop him, he set off alone into the mountains in the dead of night. To resolve such situations, several relatives and friends of those involved have come to my home to consult with me. In recent years, quite a number of such cases have been discovered, and there is a trend of increasing day by day. This is also the reason why, amid this current tide, people’s minds are unsettled and unable to be self-directed; one might also say it is due to insufficient understanding.

To practice “stillness” is not wrong in itself, but one needs to clearly understand its methods. Most importantly, it is safer to have a genuine enlightened teacher guiding from the side. Furthermore, even if one attains a certain level of cultivation, it does not necessarily mean that everyone can possess spiritual eyes or see spiritual light. Those who believe in Buddhism but do not understand Buddhist principles, who do not read the scriptures; those who believe in Catholicism or Protestantism but neither read the Bible, attend worship services, nor listen to sermons—under blind and reckless pursuit, any evil spiritual abilities obtained will only lead them down the path of schizophrenia. You can all judge by ordinary common sense: would the Buddha, Jesus, and the like allow you to summon them at will, dismiss them at will, and have them serve at your command?

You should all know that the sovereign deities and high-level benevolent spirits of the universe help those who possess concentration, are willing to make effort, have a sense of justice, and most importantly, cultivate both wisdom and virtue. Toward those who follow blindly, they will not extend a hand to guide them. If explained according to metaphysical principles, those who follow blindly are extremely susceptible to being exploited by low-level spirits. What they believe they see—whether souls, high-level spirits, or even deities and buddhas—are very likely low-level spirits exploiting them. What they believe they see—whether souls, high-level spirits, or even deities and buddhas—are very likely low-level spirits in disguise, toying with you. One truly cannot be too careful.

I once heard a certain Chan master say: “If you wish to practice entering samadhi and sitting meditation, it is best to do so before a Buddha image, for even if the soul leaves the body, there will be no danger.” In reality, this is not necessarily so. Those prone to falling into deviation and demonic possession do so because their minds are impure and plagued by scattered thoughts; they will still produce hallucinations all the same, and those low-level spirits can just as well seize the opportunity to enter their bodies. Cultivating meditation before a Buddha image can only be said to provide a sense of “support,” so that your primal spirit does not lose faith.

In conclusion, the ability to control one’s own concentration and rational understanding is of the first and foremost importance. The purpose of this book is precisely to help everyone develop a rational perspective, and to provide reference for those interested in extraordinary abilities, so that they may avoid becoming abnormal persons who have fallen into deviation and demonic possession due to impure thoughts and blind, reckless practice.

7 Spiritual Light Phenomena

Light Spontaneously Emitted by the Human Body

In paintings by artists, images of the Buddha or Jesus Christ are depicted with a radiance forming a circle, like a hollow-ring hat. In the minds of most people, this is regarded as a symbol of supreme divinity, as though only the realm of buddhas or deities could possess such brilliance.

In reality, this is called Aura, and it is a radiance possessed by every person. As explained by religious practitioners, it is the light of one’s own soul; it is simply that those venerated as buddhas and deities emit a golden-yellow radiance more conspicuously than ordinary people. But where does this radiance actually come from? And what meaning does it hold? To this day it remains a mystery, because it cannot be seen by the ordinary inner eye; only a person with psychic abilities, possessing spiritual sensitivity, can perceive it.

China calls it “spiritual light” (lingguang), while Japan and Western countries both call it “Aura.” Who can prove the existence of this spiritual light? The author is no scientist, but out of curiosity wanted to unravel this mystery. In pursuit of an answer, I once consulted experts in static electricity and bioelectricity, and finally discovered a clue through the principles of acupuncture medicine: it is a luminous light produced from the “meridian points” (jingxue) of the human body. However, this view still cannot be confirmed; it is merely offered as a speculative “possibility.”

The physical body is the dwelling of the soul, and the soul is the “true person.” The soul exists in the fourth dimension, invisible to the naked eye, formless. This formless personality is an aggregate of light, and this light represents all of you. Most of the time, many renowned physicians use the intensity of this light to judge a person’s state of health and changes in their psychological condition.

The author has mentioned two incidents. The first took place in a hospital in Germany when the power suddenly went out. In the pitch darkness, something glowing was seen moving in a corner. When the doctor shone a flashlight in that direction, two naked patients were found standing there. This doctor began researching the underlying principle and invented a method of measuring the luminosity of the human body to diagnose patients’ illnesses. The second incident involves a Japanese doctor of engineering who invented an even more precise instrument to test the radiance of the human body, concluding that the principle by which psychokinetic power moves matter is caused by spiritual light. However, in the research reports of electrical scientists, it is identified as a type of electromagnetic wave. At present, scientists in various countries are all very interested in exploring this question. At the same time, what must be mentioned here is that not only do humans possess spiritual light, but every other object and thing also has its radiance—it is merely a matter of difference in strength.

Spiritual Light Can Represent Personality

*Dark green: A slick operator.

*Light green: Able to take everything in stride.

*Brown: Strong selfishness.

*Black: Illness and death.

*Gray: Pessimism, misfortune clinging to oneself.

*Purple: Compassion, but tending toward passivity.

*Blue: Fond of pursuing ideals.

*Yellow: Rationality.

*Light red: Purity.

*Dark red: Anger.

“Spiritual light,” if going by the author’s stubborn and humble opinion: “You are the soul, and the soul is formless; manifesting as light, transforming into substance. Light itself is a non-solid entity, sometimes strong, sometimes weak, with no fixed form. This ‘light’ is your aggregate.” Some may dismiss this view as impractical, but I believe there will always be someone who resonates with me.

The size of the spiritual light naturally differs between adults and children; if some part of the body has a defect or has undergone surgery, or even mental fatigue, a gray radiance will appear; the number of abortions a woman has had can also be discerned; furthermore, if someone harbors deceitful or improper intentions, this too can be seen. Research on spiritual light has now entered the stage of light color analysis, though colors are not very distinct on instruments. It is said that gold, white, and purple are the noblest, representing the pinnacle of the spiritual domain, with purple being the most common “signature color” of those engaged in spiritual cultivation.

In the eyes of philosophers, purple symbolizes that a person’s cultivation has reached the point of forbearance combined with a compassionate heart, amiable and approachable, but tending toward passivity. Blue represents a fondness for pursuing ideals, yellow symbolizes rationality, light red represents purity, gray indicates pessimism concealing misfortune clinging to oneself, dark green represents a slick operator, dark red signifies anger, brown represents strong selfishness, black indicates illness and death, and light green represents a person who is able to take everything in stride.

Therefore, spiritual light is the most honest expression. Even if someone claims, “I am a fair and selfless person,” when their spiritual light appears brown, they are in fact a person of strong selfishness, which proves they are merely a hypocritical petty person who says one thing and thinks another.

The luminosity and color of spiritual light vary with one’s environment and changes in mood; yesterday it may have been a yellow radiance, but today, influenced by a change in mood, it may produce blue or light red. Therefore, if you wish to understand a person, you can observe the quality of their character through their spiritual light.

The Power of Light

In the universe, there are two things that absolutely existed before humanity. Long ago, when humans were still living a primitive life and had no notion of inventing anything, violent volcanic eruptions demonstrated the existence and power of “fire,” destroying the structure of the ground and strata, while meteorological changes produced lightning that triggered great fires. Appearing simultaneously with fire was “light.” But people commonly refer to it as “firelight” (huoguang)—“firelight” seems to place “fire” first and only then append the word “light,” giving the impression that fire appeared before light. Yet according to the Bible, God created “light” first, and only then created humans. What the Bible states, the author considers extremely correct, for the Bible is based on all of nature, conducting infinite statistics upon statistics, to arrive at the truth it embodies.

Therefore, light and humans should be one. Light gives life to all things; everything, all things existing on the Earth, whether moving or static objects, is enveloped in a layer of light. Without light, there is death; in particular, without spiritual light, a human being dies. Spiritual light protects your physical body; when the spiritual light is weak, the body weakens and resistance diminishes.

I used to visit hospital nurseries often. In a room with dozens of infants, their naturally produced spiritual light is remarkably vivid. In fact, so long as you slightly steady your breath, first close your eyes and breathe deeply, and when your lower dantian is filled with concentration, gently press both hands against the lower abdomen—the naked eye of an ordinary person can perceive a layer of golden or white light surrounding each infant’s body.

The reason it can be particularly distinct and observable in a hospital nursery is because there are many babies, naturally forming a large mass of light due to the aggregate of light. If the lights are turned off and you sit quietly in a corner of the room, gazing with half-closed eyes, you may be able to perceive that among them, there are bound to be several babies whose spiritual light is especially vigorous; this is related to the karma of past lives spoken of in Buddhism. As the months and years pass and the babies slowly grow, and as their moods and environments change, their spiritual light begins to change color. If they can always maintain their original white or golden yellow color, that would be for the best.

Based on the principles of optics, if light is multiplied by electromagnetism, it can generate motive power. Then, the thought-power we emit, multiplying its thought-waves with the spiritual light on our bodies, concentrating on our fingers and pointing at an object to strengthen our mental intent, may produce physical phenomena; because any object itself possesses light, and coupled with human spiritual light, human thought-waves carry magnetism, thereby inducing a complementary reinforcement, which may even be enough to move the object. If humanity utilizes this transfer of spiritual, magnetic thought-waves for a certain goal, it will surely yield an expectable effect.

If we apply this to a prodigal son, frequently using this induction, over time, he will surely turn back and turn over a new leaf. Although the ability to use this phenomenon is not something everyone can achieve, under the motto “nothing is difficult in the world for a willing heart,” if your motives are of the utmost good, there should be no problem. Moreover, every person is born with this kind of energy source; the author believes that one day it can be accomplished. Of course, the influence of acquired endurance and the strength of thought-power on its effects is inevitable.

The above arguments are all the author’s personal shallow views; whether they conform to logic is of course worth reviewing, and readers may consider them naive ideas, but the power possessed by “light” cannot be denied.

Strengthening the Spiritual Light

In Brazil, there is a famous spiritual physician named Arigo. He uses his own spiritual light, passing through the fingertips of both hands, and then relies on his pair of spiritual eyes to examine the luminosity and nature of the patient’s spiritual light, diagnoses their illness, and provides treatment, with an efficacy reaching one hundred percent. In recent years, spiritual physicians similar to this have been appearing one after another all over the world. Although perceiving a person’s spiritual light is not a simple matter, it is not the exclusive patent of those who are born with the third eye, that is, those who are said to have spiritual eyes. Ordinary, average people can also acquire this ability through acquired training and cultivation.

*Method for seeing the color of your own spiritual light: Between five and six in the morning, pray in gratitude or burn incense in worship. Sit quietly in a darker corner, clear your mind of distracting thoughts, clench your fists tightly with both hands, and cross them over your chest, channeling your strength into your fingers, slowly concentrating on your fingertips. Extend your ten fingers together into the dark, and gaze with half-closed eyes.

However, here, to satisfy the reader’s curiosity, a method is provided in advance as follows:

Between five and six o’clock in the morning, those who believe in Christianity should pray to thank God for His grace, while Buddhists should burn incense in worship. Then, find a darker corner, sit down quietly, clear your mind of distracting thoughts, clench your fists tightly with both hands, and cross them over your chest, channeling your strength into your fingers, slowly concentrating on your fingertips. Extend the ten fingers of both hands together into the dark, and gaze with half-closed eyes; this way, you can see the color of your own spiritual light.

Among the author’s friends, many have practiced using the above method, and several have stated that they saw it. However, there are also those who did it every day, continuing for a month or even several months before they could see it. After practicing like this, you can slowly also observe the spiritual light of others. However, a supplementary explanation must be made here: right after you stretch out your five fingers, you must then slowly release the strength before you can see it.

After knowing the luminosity of your own spiritual light, strengthening the inductive intensity of the spiritual light and broadening its range is an important part. The ability of a spiritual physician to treat people, like the physical phenomena of thought-power of Uri Geller (an Israeli, introduced later), are more or less closely related to “the multiplicative power through the spiritual light.”

The main switch of the spiritual light is located in the hindbrain. When you take a deep breath, immediately hold your breath while clenching your teeth, the strength naturally shifts to the back of the brain, and then the strength in the back of the brain is slowly channeled into the fingertips of both hands. Practice this constantly in order to increase the intensity of the spiritual light.

There is a question that must be mentioned, which is that the strengthening of the spiritual light has a phenomenon of varying degrees. The spiritual light cannot be strengthened in both hands at the same time; although it is the same procedure and both hands are trained simultaneously, it often takes a single-hand form. Sometimes the left hand has intensity first, while the right hand makes no progress whatsoever; after a while, upon further practice, the effect occurs in the right hand, while the left hand shows no response at all. If you want to train until both hands have intensity, it will necessarily take a period of time, and that will be determined by your patience. Nothing in the world is gained without effort, let alone this kind of ability. Of course, it can also be said to be a cosmic secret. Unless the fourth dimension or a higher dimensional realm grants you innate ability based on certain karma, other people have no right to enjoy it.

We explore this secret in order to be able to use it with good intentions, just like that clever thief on television, playful like a child, acquiring this ability through ingenious means. Therefore, the author hopes that before practicing, everyone will first worship the Buddha with a devout heart, make a vast vow to save yourself and save others, and then proceed with the practice, so as not to go astray into evil paths.

The so-called spiritual physician uses such a hand of intense spiritual light, placing it on the patient’s afflicted area. Once the patient’s spiritual light is touched, it is immediately elevated and combines with it. Then, with the addition of the physician’s thought-power, the patient’s illness immediately improves.

According to the principles of mind science, every person’s illness is not a true illness; that is, all malfunctions of the physical body are not the source of illness. The true illness is an illness of the soul, generally called a spiritual illness. The spirit is the cause. Since one is treating illness, one should use “spiritual light” to recharge and heal.

Part Two: Psychokinesis

8 What Is Psychokinesis?

Invisible Mental Power

When the inventor Edison succeeded in inventing the electric light, he once said at a celebration: “My invention relies solely on imagination and the continuous drawing of ‘mental pictures’ accumulated over time.” From this statement, it is not difficult to discover that those “mental pictures” are a description of “psychokinesis.”

As stated earlier, extraordinary abilities are not possessed only by special people; they are a latent power that everyone possesses—it is merely a matter of whether you believe it or not. Since “extraordinary abilities” are something everyone has, then “psychokinesis” is of course also a power that every person possesses.

In religious terms, “psychokinesis” is a kind of spiritual power. The ancients said, “When utmost sincerity is reached, even metal and stone can be opened.” This also illustrates the authority of mental power and the strength of faith. With “faith,” thought waves naturally arise. This wave is power, and this power possesses a force as strong as a magnet. No matter what the matter, regardless of distance, it can produce an effect. It can even cause objects to move. Therefore, if a person lacks faith and cannot concentrate their mental power, psychokinesis naturally cannot be exerted.

Using “Faith” to Resolve “Fascination”

Many inventors first become “fascinated” with things, and then fall into puzzle-like difficulties. To unravel this “puzzle,” they must challenge the difficulty, sparing no cost, burying themselves in research, hypothesizing many possible facts, investing their own spirit and time, and, with persevering faith, continuously seeking verification. Finally, they obtain the confirmation of “fact” and “principle,” and complete their invention.

This principle applies not only to invention but equally to other endeavors. Artists, musicians, politicians, and so forth all first become “fascinated” by the things they are passionate about, and then pursue that goal with unwavering focus, thereby achieving extraordinary accomplishments.

Therefore, the term “superstition” (literally “confused belief”) should not have its value dismissed based solely on its subjective connotation. A person must first have “fascination” before they will become earnest.

As for the phenomenon of extraordinary abilities, since nations around the world are competing to research it, we can affirm that it exists.

Moreover, people possessing extraordinary abilities have been appearing one after another in countries around the world, thereby confirming that this extraordinary ability is a latent capacity that every person is born with. However, if you lean toward materialism, you might quietly reflect on the concept of secretions produced by the material physical brain cells.

The present you seems as though you have been brought into this world like a film, produced according to a script you drew up in the past, being projected onto a screen. And this film is an exceedingly refined, three-dimensional film of the five senses, so much so that you feel as if you are truly there. The real you is not that physical body; it is the existence residing within the fourth-dimensional world that manipulates the physical body. Your physical body is merely a tool.

We can often close our eyes and, in stillness, investigate these principles to awaken extraordinary abilities. The author firmly believes that not only in theory but also in direct experience, you will, in tranquility, make discoveries such as those described above. This theory may seem to lean toward a religious flavor, but we should understand that true religion not only does not contradict science but is ultimately consistent with science. The state of great enlightenment in religion, described in scientific terms, is nothing other than the true self-awareness of the genuine self within a higher-dimensional world.

The reason we wish to hold such a view is to invite you to try an experiment: you might change the “materialistic” outlook on life that has become habitual since your birth. When you thoroughly comprehend this, your circumstances will inevitably begin to turn for the better. After further training, you may be able to emit psychokinetic power at any time and will obtain paranormal phenomena, which can change your previous attitude toward fatalism.

The “superstition” that people commonly speak of nowadays refers to blind faith—believing immediately without research or judgment, and without undertaking rigorous practice and personal experience. This is, of course, erroneous. Therefore, we should approach the subject with a rational mind and an investigative attitude. Only this is consistent with science and constitutes the proper attitude of seeking truth.

What Kind of Power Is Psychokinesis?

Psychokinesis is a form of conviction that produces paranormal phenomena through intense mental willpower. This power is widely applied in religion and has brought about countless miracles.

Christian worship and prayer should also be considered a concrete expression of psychokinesis. In the Bible, there are many examples where devout prayer reclaimed the lost hearts of children and so forth—too numerous to enumerate.

The hanging bell of a temple, when struck and producing sound, can often be heard even by residents in valleys far away. Depending on the force of the strike, the sound travels varying distances. In terms of physical phenomena, this is a sound wave phenomenon. It is not only temple bells; any object or instrument, so long as it can produce a sound, generates a kind of wave pattern according to its intensity and volume. If a large gong is placed at location A and struck with a swinging mallet, people at location B can all hear it. If there is an obstacle between locations A and B, such as a building or trees, the reception for people at location B will naturally be weakened, yet faint waves still reach the people at location B. The author has tested this many times while camping outdoors.

Although what was mentioned above concerns physical, material conditions, on the level of human reception there likewise exists this wavelength — producing sound or silently reciting in the mind without passing through the vocal cords. Under silent conditions, the effect is equally the same.

The notion that the “mind” is the heart — of course very few people would hold such a foolish idea. So where is the true substance of the mind? Some believe it is a secretion of the brain’s marrow cells, much like sweat, which performs the function of “thinking.” The renowned Japanese parapsychologist, who is also a well-known Doctor of Electrical Engineering, Hashimoto Ken, has stated that human brain cells number over twenty billion. If one wished to build an electronic computer comparable to the human brain, its volume would necessarily be as large as the “Marunouchi” building in Tokyo’s administrative district (equivalent to the size of two Zhongxing New Villages), and it would generate an enormous amount of heat.

Therefore, the author believes that whether a person vocalizes or not, a silent, still state can likewise disseminate astonishing wave intensities. Originally, a person’s brainwaves possess a wavelength, and these brainwaves exist whether in a living person or in a deceased person. On this point, readers will surely have doubts. Through research, the brain cells of a living person are constantly active, and through instrument testing, based on the curve indicators displayed, one can understand their strength or weakness — this can already be proven by current medicine.

As for a deceased person, can their brainwaves still exist? The materials on hand do not allow the author to provide concrete proof, but in a Chinese-language edition of a Reader’s Digest Anthology, there is a report stating that the American medical community, in multiple clinical experiments, discovered that after a patient has stopped breathing and has been confirmed dead, the brain of the corpse still emits faint wave activity, though not for long.

Reports of this kind brought to mind a Buddhist book distributed as an affinity-sharing item, titled The Greatest Event in Life. Although this is a religious book, it contains the following passage:

A human being is formed by the union of body and spirit. The spirit is imperishable; the body is material, like a house, like a machine. All things go through formation, abiding, decay, and emptiness; the body goes through birth, aging, illness, and death. When the spirit departs from the body, this is called death. In reality, it is the body that dies — the spirit does not die. However, when the patient’s breathing and pulse stop, the spirit in most cases does not leave the body at the same time.

So when does the spirit leave the body? The fastest is immediately; the slowest may be delayed by a day or two. In fact, the fastest and slowest are extremely rare cases. Under normal circumstances, it takes roughly twelve hours for it to depart from the body. Furthermore, within several days after breathing has ceased, there are occasionally those who revive from death. There are two reasons for this: first, the spirit has not yet departed; second, it departed but returned.

The above account currently lacks concrete basis, but since it can be distributed in temples as an affinity-sharing item in religious publications, there must be experiential knowledge in this area and records accumulated and passed down over a long period.

From this, at least one thing can be connected: brain cells after death can still persist for some time — this is the “wave emission” residual from the brainwave oscillations generated during life, lingering for a certain period after death. Depending on the strength of the individual’s willpower (referring to the willpower at the moment just before death), the duration of the residual “wave emission” varies. However, research on this question still requires further exploration before answers can be found. In terms of common knowledge, once the breath ceases, the brain cells should also fall into a state of rest — so how could there be brainwaves? This is indeed a fascinating question worth studying.

Why Does “the Real You” Remain So Obscure?

Be that as it may, human brain cells are, in sum, a receiving apparatus, while the true “human mind” resides in the fourth dimension — and this “mind” is the real you. Therefore, in our present life, we are constantly sending thought-waves to one another. In plain analogy, these are brainwaves. “Willpower” is the button for these brainwaves, capable of automatically adjusting speed and volume sensitivity. However, whether the true substance of thought-waves is related to brainwaves has not yet been determined. When you exert willpower, something resembling a “spiritual magnetic wave” is emitted from the human body. According to scientific research experiments in Germany, this kind of thought-wave can penetrate lead plates that block radiation.

The Inductive Function of Willpower

I remember in the autumn of the sixty-third year of the Republic, when I traveled to Tokyo on business, a wave of “superpower” research enthusiasm was sweeping across Japan. Not only were special columns published in newspapers, but there were also multiple reports and demonstrations on television, as well as lectures organized by various research societies. The fuse that ignited this enthusiasm was primarily the introduction of the exploits of an Israeli psychic — Uri Geller.

According to reports, at the age of three, he could already see through the various patterns on playing cards; at age seven, he directed willpower at the watch on his wrist, stopping the hands at will, and when he was pleased, he would make the hands start moving again. Geller himself was continually astonished by his own abilities. Although his parents were psychoanalysis scholars, they were unable to find an explanation.

At twenty-one, he enlisted in the military. During his service, he would often concentrate his mind within the camp and exert “willpower” to snap metal objects at will; he could also cause objects to levitate at a distance without touching anything whatsoever. He was later wounded in combat and discharged, at the age of twenty-four.

Subsequently, he traveled across the ocean to the Americas, performing his psychic abilities in nightclubs across the United States, and his fame spread widely. During a performance, he was admired by astronaut Mitchell, who introduced him to television, where he publicly demonstrated that once-in-a-century psychic power. Research institutes at major American universities also vied to invite him for physiological and scientific experiments, to understand the source and limits of this inconceivable power. Although to this day no research institution has been able to provide a definitive answer, his “superpowers” have already become a universally known fact throughout the world.

Uri Geller was invited to visit Japan, where he made public performances on television, including clairvoyance and memory demonstrations. The most representative ability was his use of intense psychokinetic power to bend a metal spoon in an instant without touching it with his hands, and then break it into two halves. According to the principles of mechanics, bending a metal spoon would require several times the force and instruments, yet he was able to snap it into two halves relying solely on psychokinetic power—truly astonishing.

Even more incredible and most spectacular was that on the final day of his performances in Japan, he made a statement on television to the entire nation of Japan, which amounted to a challenge. He said: “At 8:35 p.m. on March 7, Showa 49 (Republic of China year 63), I will send psychokinetic power from Canada to cause spoons in homes throughout Japan to bend, and to cause clock hands to start moving (referring to those clocks and watches that had stopped). At that time, please place the spoons and stopped clocks and watches from your homes in front of your television sets. I will transmit the psychokinetic power precisely on time at 8:35 p.m. that evening through the television station.” Uri Geller left behind these virtually unbelievable words, departed from Tokyo airport, and flew to Canada.

Curious people all across Japan waited for this day to arrive, half-believing and half-doubting. When the time appointed by Uri Geller arrived, Japanese television stations simultaneously launched this special program and reminded viewers to synchronize their clocks, place their spoons and stopped clocks and watches in front of their own television sets, and await the miracle of that moment. The television stations also asked viewers that if spoons truly bent or clock hands began to move, they should immediately call the live television program.

When the time came, it indeed came to pass. Many spoons placed in front of television sets actually bent into V-shapes, and clock hands also began turning. Everyone immediately began calling the television station’s live program. According to statistics, the miracle occurred in over fourteen thousand households. All of these facts were witnessed firsthand and are verifiable. Some psychologists had considered Geller to be a clever magician and fraud, and academic groups in Britain also held such views about Uri Geller.

I personally believe that Geller’s ability is by no means a “trick.” For someone located thousands of miles away across the ocean in Canada to produce such phenomena in Japan, it would be impossible to have a prior understanding with the Japanese, or to have arranged collusion in advance, or even to have bribed people to play along in cheating. Furthermore, to have over fourteen thousand households cooperate in performing this trick would be quite unnecessary in practice. If you do not believe it, the iron-clad facts are right before your eyes, and you cannot help but believe. These households included people from all strata—scholars, scientists, doctors, physicists, police officers, and others.

In August of Republic of China year 73 (1984), I traveled to the United States on business and, with friends, visited the gambling city of Las Vegas. Under the persistent request of one friend, I conducted a psychokinetic experiment. According to the spirit of extraordinary abilities, one must not use these powers for games of a gambling nature; this also violates my principles. However, in order to help this entrepreneur friend believe in the existence of psychokinetic power, and as a way of forming a karmic connection, I made an exception and conducted one experiment, vowing to myself that it would not be repeated. Standing in front of the slot machine with my friend, we held our breath, began deep breathing, and I slowly intensified my concentration and other methods required for psychokinetic power among extraordinary abilities. Sure enough, the expected effect was achieved. The following is the content of the news interview I gave at the time to the China Times (U.S. West Edition) in the United States.

Extraordinary Ability Experiment

Not long ago, inside a casino in Las Vegas, a dozen or so Chinese gathered in front of a slot machine. A man with a ruddy complexion and a slightly receding hairline tightly closed his eyes, clenched his fists, and faced the slot machine. Then he called out “Pull,” and the slot machine’s display showed “three sevens.” Clattering down came three hundred one-dollar coins, leaving the Chinese and foreign gamblers all around dumbfounded—because this ruddy-complexioned man had said before pulling that this time he would use “spiritual power” to make three hundred dollars come down!

Who was this? How did he possess such “magical power”?

It turned out to be Shi Chaolin, the standing director and chairman of the Research Committee of the “Republic of China Parapsychology Research Association,” who was then visiting the United States.

*Extraordinary Sensory Power Lies Dormant in the Human Body

Opening his eyes, one could see that Shi Chaolin’s gaze was remarkably spirited, with an unfathomable depth hidden within. He told the reporter that “performances” like the one in Las Vegas were in fact nothing extraordinary, because this type of latent mysterious power and ability inherent in human beings is something each and every one of us possesses. And this so-called “extraordinary ability,” based on his many years of research and the results of exchanging insights with spiritual researchers around the world, can be trained and developed, because these “extraordinary abilities” all lie dormant within us. It is simply that, living in our affluent modern lives, human beings have neglected the abilities they were born with.

Up to the present, “extraordinary abilities” can be correlated with the six supernatural powers of Buddhism, namely: the divine eye, the divine ear, the knowledge of others’ minds, supernatural locomotion, the knowledge of past lives, and the destruction of all defilements.

*Comparable to the Six Supernatural Powers of Buddhism

He explained that there are currently many people who possess “superpowers,” and the general descriptions are as follows: so-called telepathy can be described as mental telepathy, which can break through spatial barriers, transmitting mental messages to people far away to know, and likewise can perceive the mental activities of distant others—instances of this kind are the most numerous; the divine eye is like clairvoyance, enabling one to see phenomena far away without using the eyes; the divine ear is the thousand-li ear or wind-accompanying ear, enabling one to “hear” sounds from within or from afar without using the ears; as for divine movement, it can be described as a kind of psychokinetic power, using the power of the mind to change the position of matter, such as causing objects on a table to move; as for the ability to know past lives, it is a kind of prophetic power that can reveal past and future phenomena and events, including one’s own previous incarnations and future lives.

*Classified by the Soviet Union as a Top National Defense Secret

This researcher, who himself possesses some “superpowers,” pointed out that up to now, these “abilities” unfortunately still cannot be explained by “science,” nor can they transcend the “cage” of science. However, the Soviet Union had long ago classified this branch of science as a top national defense secret, and there have been repeated occurrences of inexplicable demonstrations of superpowers orchestrated by the Soviet Union, which is truly worrisome.

Since everyone possesses this superpower, why do some people have it while others “do not”?

Regarding this question, the main reason is still that those who pursue and study “superpowers” know far too little, and they have not yet been able to find a common systematic source to explain the reasons for its disappearance and manifestation.

*Discovering Spiritual Power While Watching His Grandfather Play Mahjong

As for himself, he first realized he had this ability when he was in the first grade of elementary school. Seeing his grandfather continuously losing at mahjong, his young heart felt unwilling to accept it. Not only could he not play in his grandfather’s place, but besides placing the strongest animals he knew from childhood—tiger and lion toys—beside his grandfather as a protective backing, he kept thinking in his heart: this time he will definitely win. And he gradually strengthened this thought. Strangely enough, whenever he had this kind of mental power in his heart, his grandfather would win every round. To verify whether it was merely “probability,” when he moved to a different position and directed the same mental power at someone else, it had the same effect, and he knew it was not mere coincidence.

Without realizing it, a year passed. When he entered the second grade, this “mental power” suddenly disappeared, and no matter how hard he tried, it no longer worked.

This superpowered individual, who graduated from the Military Academy and worked in the field of education after retiring from the military, said that up to now, through researching more and seeing more, he could roughly infer a pattern: this kind of “superpower” has a considerably close connection and binding force with “cause,” “right and wrong,” “violation of morality,” and so forth. Just as he believes that using “mental power” to help his grandfather win money was the primary reason he lost this “spiritual power.” This is also why he personally only “performed” once in Las Vegas, helping a friend win a little back, rather than playing himself and pulling in four or five hundred thousand for himself!

Shi Chaolin further explained that perhaps every one of us has had this kind of experience, such as eyelid twitching or itchy ears, which carry meanings of good or bad fortune. And according to research, these are all signals sent from the spiritual realm, only we do not understand them. In addition, things like “speak of Cao Cao and Cao Cao appears,” “feeling someone staring at you from behind,” and so on, are experiences everyone has had. These are all phenomena of “superpowers,” and it is worth adding some confidence in this kind of ability.

*The Human Aura Changes with One’s State of Mind

On the other hand, Shi Chaolin stated that he could see the aura on anyone’s body, and furthermore, based on the different colors of aura your body emits, he could ascertain your physical condition. Generally speaking, blue light represents a propensity for pursuing ideals, yellow symbolizes rationality, light red represents purity, gray indicates pessimism concealing misfortune, dark green represents cunning, dark red represents anger, brownish red represents selfishness, black indicates illness and death… and the strength, visibility, and changes of each person’s aura at any given time correspond closely to the prevailing circumstances. For example, if you suddenly “have a guilty conscience,” your body will immediately emit a brownish glow—this works every time without fail.

Why does this “aura” exist? Drawing on his comprehensive research findings from around the world, Shi Chaolin concluded that the physical body is merely the dwelling of the soul, and the “soul” is the true person, existing in the fourth dimension, invisible to the naked eye—it is entirely an aggregation of light, and light represents your entirety.

*If You Possess Superpowers, You Should Practice Giving

Although many “superpowers” can be attained through intensified training and spiritual cultivation, this superpowered individual still earnestly advises everyone that upon obtaining this ability, it should be used as a form of giving—that is, in addition to “giving of wealth” and “giving of Dharma,” one should use one’s own superpowers, employing benevolent superpowers to influence all people, filling the human world with love. Only then will it not be in vain that we have awakened this precious “ability.”

9 The Principles of Mental Power

Physical Phenomena Produced by the Human Aura

Some parapsychology research institutions in Europe have published findings regarding the bending of metal spoons, proposing that the effect is prompted by the human aura. This was a paper of several thousand words, presenting a hypothetical theory published by a German doctoral engineer. A person’s body has a radiance; according to the paper’s discussion of the body’s light, the following descriptions are given:

One night at a certain hospital in West Berlin, a sudden power outage plunged the wards into darkness. A doctor on duty suddenly noticed a glowing object moving ahead of him. When the doctor grabbed a flashlight and shone it in that direction, it turned out that two patients were standing there naked. From this incident, the doctor gained a new inspiration and began conducting research, eventually inventing a machine that could measure the strength and color of a person’s aura, using this to assess the patient’s psychological state and condition, with tremendous success.

In fact, within China’s tradition of meditative concentration, the aura was discovered earlier than in England and Germany; however, we simply never applied it systematically in the fields of modern physiology and medicine with academic publication. Regrettably, our compatriots have dismissed it as “mystical talk” and rejected it.

In Japan, a few years ago, an engineering doctor named Hideo Uchida also built an aura luminosity testing device — the “Uchida aura-meter” — which has already tested nearly ten thousand people, and he has been continuously compiling its statistical data. Dr. Uchida has consistently maintained that the aura does produce effects. This is because after thought power is strengthened, thought waves form into an aura, and under pressure throughout the body, they burst forth from the body, becoming a form of light energy or “spiritual energy” invisible to the naked eye.

Yūshi

Several years ago, at what was then the Taiwan Provincial Library, I came across an English-language popular science publication that contained a unique discussion of the physical phenomena triggered by the generation of thought power. The author was a professor at the University of Hawaiʻi named William (William D.), who believed that every person can emit a kind of thought wave — an extremely short-wavelength ultrafine particle. This particle merges with the molecules of matter and, in an instant, combines with the electrons in the thought wave, thereby producing physical phenomena. This theory is highly valuable and has received considerable attention, but it has not been fully accepted by scientists, let alone resonated with the scientific community.

Many years later, Dr. Hideo Seki, a leading authority in Japan’s electronics industry, published further and more concrete research findings. He proposed the existence of an active system called “yūshi” (幽子). This “yūshi” is an extremely minute particle that possesses electromagnetic properties. All organic things are composed of accumulated combinations of molecules. A molecule can be broken down, at one part in one hundred million of a centimeter, into an atom. Within this atom, there exists an ultrafine particle of one part in ten trillion of a centimeter. In the field of electrical science, there is as yet no appropriate name for this particle, so Dr. Hideo Seki temporarily named it “yūshi.”

This “yūshi” is the “primary body” that causes paranormal phenomena. Dr. Hideo Seki further deduced that the frequency of the yūshi enables the yūshi emitted by thought power to gradually increase pressure on the molecules that constitute objects such as spoons, thereby producing physical phenomena. Because matter possesses N and S poles, and is formed by the mutual combination of dispersed molecules, if an electric current is driven in a certain direction, the molecules will align themselves within the substance itself, becoming an electromagnet with S poles and N poles.

Looking at this theory, the present author believes it is worth preserving as material for further research. From this, one can also speculate that if this world — and even higher-level worlds — are filled with magnetic dynamic phenomena, then the most fundamental gravitational force of the Earth would initially belong to this magnetic domain. This magnetism is activated by thought power, and its wavelength is sufficient to affect any person, event, or object, reverberating like an echo around you, making you sense its movement and stillness, its S pole and N pole — that is, the distinction between yin and yang. The most obvious example is that between men and women, the same principle of S and N applies. If S lacks N, or N lacks S, they cannot form a unity.

Male belongs to yang, female belongs to yin, which can also be represented by the symbols ”+” and ”−.” What is commonly called love at first sight is in fact a momentary electromagnetic interaction. This spiritual magnetism relies on the thought waves projected by thought, which reverberate and resonate with mutual understanding. It is not only the feelings between men and women — other things and events similarly produce magnetic effects through thought waves. Of course, the strength of each person’s willpower differs, and the influence of the varying strength of this thought power frequently shapes a person’s “destiny” in life.

Kind thoughts and thought power will bring good fortune. If thought power emitted by evil thoughts certainly still has power and may bring temporary pleasure, in the end, the evil thoughts will conversely invite disaster upon oneself. The echo of good thought waves is happiness; the echo of evil thoughts is, of course, misfortune.

Superluminal Matter

Two doctors at the University of Adelaide in Australia, Dr. Roger (Lo Chi-li) and Dr. Philip Cott (Fei-li-pu Ke-t’e), beginning in February 1972 and continuing through August, frequently observed on the Earth’s surface something of unknown nature that was like liquid yet like light, but also seemingly like an airflow, surging in layer upon layer and covering the entire Earth.

These two doctors jointly observed and recorded over one thousand instances. Of course, their observations were made using highly sophisticated precision electronic instrumentation. They discovered that at the instant cosmic rays struck the atmosphere, minute particle-like things appeared that traveled faster than the speed of light. These precise and delicate fine particles struck the Earth like rainfall. Where these unknown substances come from is still in the research stage and cannot yet be determined.

If this theory is eventually confirmed, Einstein’s doctrine that the “speed of light” is the fastest will inevitably be overturned. When cosmic rays collide with atoms in the atmosphere, they produce a cascade of particles traveling at the speed of light — and even exceeding the speed of light — heading straight toward the Earth, subsequently generating unlimited quantities of unknown particles. If “matter” moves faster than light, it is equivalent to time flowing backward. This unknown particle represents an unknown realm; it surges upward and reverses, becoming a form that replays the past in reverse.

In recent years, people possessing supernatural abilities have continuously appeared in various parts of the world. Have these individuals developed supernatural powers because they received “infusion” or “guidance” from these unexplained phenomena? Or is it a physical phenomenon triggered by “psychokinesis”? There is still no definitive conclusion to confirm this.

Mental Waves

A psychiatrist in France was one day conducting a routine examination of a patient when he discovered that mental states exhibited different wavelengths corresponding to joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness. This principle is of course quite ordinary and unsurprising, but he noticed that when the patient stared directly and fixedly at a certain object with both eyes without letting go, the mental wavelength showed a distinctly different pattern, though he could not find the reason for this difference. Therefore, he associated this with the principle by which Uri Geller’s psychokinesis bent metal spoons, concluding that it was entirely caused by mental waves.

Psychokinesis produced 0.01 Angstrom. The “Angstrom” is a unit for measuring light wavelengths, referring to one ten-billionth of a meter, and is an ultra-microparticle. It can also be described as one-tenth to one-hundredth of the shortest wavelength of X-rays; it possesses sufficient power to penetrate or move any object.

Masaki Wazumi of the Osaka Institute of Technology in Japan also made the same astonishing discovery. After conducting multiple studies, Professor Masaki emphasized: the bending of a spoon is the result of all the material molecules undergoing self-dissolution and dispersion after being subjected to intense psychokinesis. If one were to artificially produce 0.01 Angstrom, it could turn all of humanity into epoch-making individuals with supernatural abilities. However, manufacturing such a thing would require the support of an enormous electron force of one billion or five billion volts.

Research on Psychokinesis

When Uri Geller gave public performances in the United States, he was introduced by astronaut Mitchell to the research institute at Stanford University in California, where he underwent testing for a full six weeks. This was an academic examination, yet to this day, the test report and its theoretical principles have still not been published. Uri Geller had also previously undergone testing in England, but there too they could only prove that such a phenomenon existed; they were still unable to work out the underlying principles. I believe that Geller himself was eager to understand the principles behind his abilities, which was why he agreed to undergo testing — otherwise, who would willingly submit themselves to being studied for no reason?

At present, technological institutions and parapsychological academic organizations worldwide are almost all awaiting Stanford University’s public release of its test report on Geller’s “supernatural abilities,” because Stanford University can be said to be a fully equipped institution, and furthermore, six weeks of testing is by no means a short period of time — they should have been able to find some leads. Over these past several years, the author has continuously watched for the appearance of Stanford University’s experimental report and has also inquired about this type of testing through numerous scholars, but there has been no concrete report whatsoever. It seems they are still conducting their research!

10 Wholesome and Malicious Thoughts

The Good and Evil of Psychokinesis and Their Effects

Among the forces generated by psychokinesis, a portion manifests as physical phenomena — that is, the ability to make objects levitate, deform, and so forth — a mental power that can cause objects to float or matter to change without relying on direct physical contact. Beyond this, psychokinesis shares the same nature as other forces in the mental domain, such as the paranormal phenomena of telepathy and clairvoyance. Depending on a person’s desire and the intensity of what they project, psychokinesis can fulfill that desire: some people’s psychokinesis can never reach its target; some can achieve their intended goal, but only very slowly; and still others can achieve their wish as swiftly as lightning, as though the moment they speak of it, it comes to pass.

Psychokinesis possesses two different tendencies: one is wholesome psychokinesis, and the other is malicious psychokinesis. Good psychokinesis, that is, “wholesome thought,” when it affects people, events, and things, invariably brings considerable benefit to oneself or the other party; whereas psychokinesis generated by resentment, anger, hatred, and similar intentions is naturally a harmful mental wave, inevitably harming both others and oneself.

Both wholesome psychokinesis and malicious psychokinesis equally depend on the strength of the originating person’s psychokinesis to determine the speed and force of its effect. However, readers must bear in mind one point: the power of malicious psychokinesis is stronger and swifter than that of wholesome psychokinesis, and it has the function of producing immediate results. Conversely, wholesome psychokinesis is comparatively sluggish and slow in its effects, so the person projecting psychokinesis must summon their entire strength with sincere and undivided focus. This is because wholesome psychokinesis is brought about through harmonious intentions, and harmony belongs to the “gentle” disposition. Even though the person exercising psychokinesis may increase their force and accelerate the psychokinesis, because your most fundamental disposition is gentle rather than forceful, the psychokinesis emitted through this gentle energy is naturally slow.

From ancient to modern times, in China and abroad, many good people and loyal officials have often been framed by bad people — this can be statistically demonstrated from numerous episodes in history. Although these treacherous officials who framed others eventually received their deserved punishment and various forms of retribution, the fact remains that good people were harmed first. It is inherently easy for humans to learn bad habits but slow to cultivate good ones; typically, those burdened by inertia are entangled in the karmic forces of past malicious thoughts. Therefore, if you project psychokinesis for the sake of justice or to inspire an evil person to turn toward goodness and reform, you must expend considerable force before it can take effect, precisely because the evil person’s mind is filled with harmful mental waves that can resist your wholesome psychokinesis.

The reason malicious thought-power is fast is that a person’s resentment, selfish desire, greed, and urge to vent all carry a ruthlessness—this “ruthlessness” is naturally a kind of rigid impulse. This state of mind is extremely fearsome. Because of jealousy and lingering hatred, one clings to thoughts of enmity day and night, thinking incessantly, inevitably harboring curses, and its power is terrifying beyond measure. The person who is cursed, in the end, comes under the influence of this malignant thought-power and is prone to unfortunate consequences.

Of course, this kind of thought-power that harms others, though it may achieve the momentary effect of venting hatred, still cannot escape retribution—and such retribution is most often “retribution in this present life.” The principle, in the end, is still “reaping what one has sown,” because you have planted an unwholesome “cause” and obtained an inauspicious “effect.”

The “effect” obtained from the “cause” of virtuous thought-power is auspicious. When the two words “cause and effect” are mentioned, some may consider it too religious, yet the law of cause and effect is precisely the principle that supports science. Science is a logical discipline established on the two great avenues of seeking “causes” through “effects” and obtaining “effects” from “causes.”

The Value of Thought

People have suffering because they possess a “physical body”—as the saying goes, “The greatest affliction of humans lies in having a self with a body.” Yet if a person did not have this physical body, they could not act in this world. Therefore, if you wish to be active on this earth without hoping for suffering, you must attain, through “awakening,” a life that transcends the physical body.

Humanity is originally a “true spirit.” It transcends the consciousness of the physical body, the consciousness of the realm of shades, and the consciousness of the spiritual realm. It comes forth from the wellspring of cosmic consciousness. The cosmic primordial spirit is its “source of motive power.” Shakyamuni Buddha, in order to enable humanity to perceive the true self, emphasized “true emptiness” and “actual reality” in the Heart Sutra, explaining that this physical body of ours is merely an existence of “phenomena”—it is not your essence.

In the teaching that “the three realms are manifested by the mind alone,” the three realms refer to the realm of desire, the realm of form, and the formless realm—the worlds through which ordinary beings cycle through birth and death. All these realms are expressions of the mind alone. One’s self and one’s circumstances are entirely created by one’s own “mind.”

“Thought-power” is the concrete action of the “mind.” The “mind” is your true essence. The “mind” directs the ready-made physical body, and the thought-waves within thought-power pass through the fourth-dimensional realm to reach the target of one’s intention, accomplishing deeds that benefit sentient beings and alleviating their suffering—this is truly an important matter.

Virtuous thought-power is Buddha-nature; the so-called Buddha-nature refers to the kind heart. We ought to constantly radiate the brilliance of Buddha-nature to transform humanity’s hatred and selfishness—this is a matter of the utmost urgency. Although the energy to be expended is tremendous, its value can be said to exceed all the limitless treasures you could ever know. Thus it is said: “What one mind does can change an individual’s destiny; what all minds do can avert the great catastrophe of the world.”

Symbols of Thought-Power

In temples, “amulets” are placed for devout men and women to carry on their persons, for the purpose of seeking personal safety or household peace. Some of these amulets have a strap sewn on, so they can be hung around the neck and worn on the chest; others are simply meant to be placed inside your wallet. The forms used in temples are no more than these two types: the paper talisman with symbols drawn on it is folded into a small bagua shape, or a plastic sleeve in wallet form is used, with a Buddha image or a drawn talisman placed inside. Since there is a need to supply many devotees for wearing, the former method of using a brush and going through a procedure to draw talismans has been found too slow. Now printing technology is used, and factories mass-produce thousands upon tens of thousands of amulets. Especially during the major festivities of the New Year and festivals, supply truly cannot meet demand.

Regarding amulets, they are not exclusive to China; they are also extremely popular in European and American countries. Westerners, unlike us Easterners who draw talismans on paper, carve them into wood like totems. There are bizarrely shaped wooden dolls hung around the neck; furthermore, some are made of metal in the form of silver coins or rectangular aluminum plates, fastened to the wrist or other parts such as the upper arm or lower leg.

This item, which originally consisted of symbols drawn on a piece of paper, has now evolved into an ornament, with emphasis on artistry and aesthetic appeal.

The most conspicuous example is in moving vehicles—whether public buses, taxis, or private cars—where, in front of the driver’s seat, all kinds of dainty and exquisite amulets marked with words about traffic safety are suspended to ensure safe travel. These amulets even come with small bells; as soon as the vehicle moves, they jingle and chane, creating quite an atmospheric mood. Originally the amulet was an extremely solemn token of faith, yet now it has become something of a decorative accessory. Businesspeople, well understanding crowd psychology, mass-produce these amulet dolls, small lanterns, evil-averting mallets, and the like, selling them in shops at various tourist destinations. This mutually beneficial, kill-two-birds-with-one-stone business indeed brings the joy of universal satisfaction.

In Japan, there are factories, companies, and shops exclusively manufacturing and selling amulets—and not just one of them. It is truly a case of small investment yielding enormous returns, with low costs and substantial profits. In Taiwan, too, there are many finely crafted amulets, displayed in shop windows at imported-goods prices—of every shape and description, a dazzling array, though expensive.

However, these amulets produced through mass production—whether mimeographed or block-printed—if you carry one, will it actually bring safety, or can it help you avoid the disaster of a traffic accident?

Here, the author does not presume to pass judgment. According to the author’s humble view, the emergence of curses or talismans should be regarded as a by-product elicited under a certain psychological state. When a person, driven by an urgent sense of pressure to fulfill some cherished desire, feels that merely praying with thought alone seems insufficiently real and stable, and that relying on thought alone still feels like a vast emptiness with nothing to anchor to—longing to achieve the wish but unable to instantly manifest the object of their desire—they therefore seek to find evidence that their hope will certainly be realized in the future, so as to satisfy their own sense of security. Urged on by their pressing emotions, they ultimately carve out various images in pursuit of stability and consolation.

Whether this image consists of written characters or pictures, once it is kept concealed upon one’s person and constantly remembered or gazed upon, these “talismans” flow along with the waves of thought, and over time, miracles may unexpectedly appear. In reality, this is not miraculous but an inevitable phenomenon, and it moreover possesses a very high percentage rate of thought-power efficacy; the desired wish can sometimes be fulfilled. If readers have studied the preceding chapters in detail and, according to the theories of spiritual science, this should be tenable, because people have produced results through these carved or written “images”—which is precisely why they have been transmitted to the present day and widely applied.

In our country, “mantra incantations” represent a form of Esoteric Buddhist thought-power, while “talismans” represent a form of Daoist thought-power. Among the indigenous peoples, sorcerers, and witches of Africa and Australia, these methods have long been applied to manage all affairs of their tribes. They do not use brushes to write and draw, but instead carve wood or weave various grasses into human figures or objects, and adding incantations and animal sacrifices, they perform their sorcery at designated times.

The power of talismans, incantations, and curses—regardless of the country, no matter what race—once applied according to method, their formless influence upon human beings cannot be overlooked and must not be treated without caution.

Within the scope of spiritual science, a talisman is a missive issued from on high, a letter delivered through fourth-dimensional orbit, carrying the meaning of an issued proclamation, possessing the potency of an oral message, a password, or a written order; a curse possesses even greater power, like that of a command.

In fact, among those with greater spiritual power in Esoteric Buddhism, there is no need to use brush and ink to draw on paper. Relying solely on thought-power combined with a spoken incantation, one may use a finger to trace a talisman in the air, and it will equally communicate with the various spirits of the fourth dimension, thereby achieving results. Drawing invisible talismans upon objects can also manifest power, according to the good or evil of one’s thought-power. According to spiritual science theory, the moment a person forms a thought, it communicates with the spirit realm of the fourth dimension; and when that thought is intensified, it becomes thought-power. When this thought-power is combined with an incantation, the power becomes great.

When this thought-power and incantation are transmitted to the fourth dimension and received by the spirits of the departed, extraordinary phenomena occur. If the purpose of your incantation or talisman is virtuous, it can attract the resonance and cooperation of benevolent spirits; if it is an incantation or talisman aimed at harming others, the benevolent spirits will immediately depart from you, and what you receive in return are malevolent spirits of the dead who will run errands for you. These spirits can even proactively prompt you to intensify your evil thoughts, leading to actions that harm both yourself and others.

The reason talismans and incantations possess such great power is that they are driven by thought-power of incomparable force. A talisman without thought-power is tantamount to a worthless piece of paper. Only a talisman drawn in a single breath with brush and ink, with full concentration of spirit and sincere devotion emanating from the dantian, possesses efficacy.

The characters and patterns on talismans have countless styles and variations. According to their purpose and application, there are characters of various different meanings. Among these written forms, a great many remain impossible to decipher to this day; furthermore, there are many talismans that do not require accompanying incantations, but must be created at a designated time and facing a designated direction in order to be effective.

This book strives to avoid subjective theories and seeks to get to the root of matters and find answers from an objective perspective. Today in our country, the level of education has not only risen, but the universality of education has long kept pace with the civilized nations of Europe and America, and indeed many studies and unique insights surpass those of any other nation—this is a fact plain for all to see. Readers are all knowledgeable and discerning people. We cannot blindly say we believe and therefore believe; that would become genuine superstition. Therefore, in this book, many of the author’s humble views are materials collected and personally experienced over many years. The author hopes that readers will maintain a rational and objective standpoint and jointly study these questions together.

The History of Curses

In any textbook or collection, one cannot find the history of curses. This is because it lacks documentary evidence, and it is not worth the trouble of devoting an entire chapter to its discussion. People all regard it as absurd nonsense; if someone speaks of such things, they are regarded as a foolish person and subjected to ridicule.

However, in our daily lives, all the people, events, and things we come into contact with are constantly receiving or sending forth situations of cursing, at a proportion of at least sixty percent. Everyone will surely find this strange—where does this come from? Below I would like to give a few examples to illustrate.

When women go to the market to buy vegetables, some vegetable vendors, in order to prove that their produce is not leftover unsold stock from several days ago, hastily assert that their vegetables are freshly picked from the garden. They blurt out without a second thought: “Madam! I swear, this cabbage is absolutely fresh. If it isn’t fresh and is from the day before yesterday, then I’m not fit to be called a human being.” Whether what he says is true or false, he has uttered two phrases—“I swear” and “not fit to be a human being”—and this is identical in principle to the logic of thought-power curses. Although this is an extremely ordinary matter, it can be explained as a form of self-cursing self-inflicted hardship, and it does not affect others. If this vendor has indeed been cheating people, over time the consequence of being “unfit to be a human being” will come to pass—whether through declining business or some other misfortune descending upon him.

Furthermore, when friends are chatting together, they often say: “Speak of Cao Cao, and Cao Cao arrives.” This too is a form of indirect telepathic resonance. And when two people have hurt each other’s feelings and are arguing, there is always the line: “Fine! You just remember this—one day I’ll make you look bad.” And similar words. Strangely enough, they actually do come true on some particular day. The author once compiled statistics on many such incidents, and out of ten cases, at least six would come to pass. All of these fall within the scope of curses.

It can be seen that curses are a major issue in human existence that cannot be ignored. And it is not only between person and person—the same holds true between animals, where such things occur frequently. Even between nation and nation, between political factions and political factions, the same kind of situation will arise.

If we wish to study the thought-waves related to the good and evil of curses and telepathic power, we must understand their history, but this is truly no easy task. For this purpose, the author once combed through all available reference books. Among them was one book titled Ancient Times, authored by Dr. Hallen Kouline, published in England in 1950. The latter section of this book contains the following account:

Twenty-six thousand years ago, in the late Paleolithic period, humans had to go hunting every day in order to survive. These Stone Age people used clamorous, frightening shouts to make the animals submit. Yet some people were curiously able to return fully loaded with game every time. Upon being pressed by their companions for an explanation, it turned out that they were using another kind of commotion-making method. Upon hearing it, the wild beasts would obediently rush about as if dazed and disoriented, eventually falling into traps.

This author, through research on the patterns carved on many Stone Age implements and on parts resembling writing, discovered that these were commotion-making sounds used for hunting, carved as symbols onto stones, walls, or stone knives to prevent them from being forgotten. In this manner, they continued to be used for over twenty thousand years. This cursing technique was later adopted by Egypt and applied between person and person—this was already six thousand years ago.

Therefore, the origin of human cursing can be traced back six thousand years; the Egyptians may have been the earliest to apply it. Right up until the seventeenth century, the Greeks also continued to follow suit. However, this cursing practice was extensively transferred to the indigenous peoples of Africa, who used cursing techniques to deal with the invasion of white people in order to defend their own tribes and territories, and there were records of remarkable efficacy. After that, it also began to be applied throughout the world, and the intermediaries were the Gypsies—a wandering people who to this day still have no nationality.

Although the above account is brief, it is sufficient to reveal its origins and full course of development.

The “Scarecrow Figure” Cursing Method

In September of 1963, during my stay in London, wishing to see the famous theater that exclusively showed 3D films, I walked alone through the streets at night. Before coming to London, I had no particular fondness for the city. After arriving in London, the feeling it gave me was neither disappointing nor particularly surprising—just like the quality it inherently possessed: plain, tranquil, like a plain and tranquil friend, letting you gradually grow fond of her.

London resembles a gentlewoman of a family whose fortunes have declined. Though the splendor of the past is too painful to look back upon, she everywhere retains traces of her former eminence.

There is no great city in the world as quaint and antique as London. After nightfall, the yellow streetlamps, adapted for illumination in the fog, lit up. Their dim yellow halos cast a hazy gloom everywhere, making one feel all the more as though strolling along an ancient road of the Middle Ages.

When I reached Victoria Park, I suddenly heard the sound of a police siren pierce through the streets with their medieval atmosphere. A police car came head-on but stopped at the main gate of the park. Four detectives jumped out of the police car and pounced on a middle-aged man beside a tree. Although the middle-aged man showed signs of resistance, he was eventually subdued by them. This middle-aged man was holding a hammer and three-inch iron nails in his hand, but these were not weapons prepared for resistance, nor was he carrying this hammer and nails to commit a crime—the purpose was to practice sorcery.

On a tree there was a human-shaped straw doll. Upon inquiry, I learned that the middle-aged man had woven out of straw a figure resembling his enemy. Every day and night at this hour, he would nail this straw figure to the tree, furiously hammer this straw doll with the hammer, and meanwhile speak ill of the other party, cursing him. It was said that in this way, misfortune would soon befall the other party. In this scientific age, for a person in such a civilized society as England to resort to such practices is chilling. What percentage of effectiveness does it actually have? Whether or not it comes to pass, the nature of this malicious intent is the same.

The Scottish police in Britain pay special attention to such matters. All officers on patrol duty constantly keep watch on trees and around buildings; if they discover such straw dolls, they remove them, continually clearing away these inauspicious objects.

The Native American Portrait Curse

In the past, I used to go to church often. Although I had never been formally baptized, as long as I had time, I would go listen to the minister or priest explain the Bible. I was quite interested in the many stories in the Bible and benefited a great deal from them. When I still lived in Taichung, I became acquainted with a Spanish priest. In addition to being devoted to his duties in the church, he also regularly taught Spanish conversation to young people during the day. Because the author had always had a keen interest in languages, I would invariably be present at the appointed times to learn the language.

One evening, after class had ended, as everyone was chatting casually, the topic shifted to the many memories of this priest from his time doing missionary work in an Indian village. He took out a worn diary whose cover had long since faded, flipping through its pages as he spoke about the many aspects of Indian life. This priest seemed to understand the Indians very well; he produced a sharp spear, saying it was a commemorative gift given to him by an Indian chieftain. He had received this spear merely for persuading them to give up the wicked custom of cursing others to cause illness or death, and the priest considered this the most unforgettable event of his entire life.

He said that in those years, when he arrived at the American Indian tribe, he saw that they would often, at dusk, draw a human figure on the sandy ground, then continuously chant a kind of language that was neither their native tongue nor any other place’s speech, and then, using a pointed stick, violently and repeatedly make stabbing gestures toward the drawn figure’s body. At first, he thought it was one of their customs, but after gradual observation, he realized that they were cursing someone to death. The terrifying expression on the faces of those doing the cursing was truly beyond description. The people they targeted for cursing were always white people.

Of course, during the period of American expansion, conflicts with the indigenous Indians were inevitable. These Indians, unable to resist the white people’s firearms and weapons, had no choice but to silently, without outsiders’ knowledge, curse the commanding officer of the white troops, drawing that officer’s portrait on the ground and carrying out the curse. This priest had come for missionary work, and it took tremendous effort to persuade them to abandon this harmful custom. He brought about reconciliation between the Indians and the stationed white soldiers, working together to build a new world.

This elderly priest of advanced age is no longer in Taiwan now, but his actions were surely correct. The thought-waves of evil intent can only bring people hatred; regardless of whether they are effective, such a practice absolutely must not be allowed to grow and should be stopped in a timely manner. As for whether any Indians still use this method of cursing today, that remains unknown.

The Terrifying Fire-Roasting Sorcery

In Malaysia, near the northern side of Singapore, there is also a rather formidable and sinister method of cursing through malicious thought-power.

In order to make the target of the curse fall ill, one would stop at nothing, day and night, to obtain the target’s fingernails, hair, or some physical substance from their body. Then, in a beehive, one would mix a pot of mud slurry, and from this mud sculpt a human figure. One would take an iron rod, sharpen its front end to a needle-like point, and pierce it through the belly of the mud doll. At night, in a dark room, one would light a fire and roast the doll while chanting incantations, continuing this for half an hour every day. After seven days, the cursed person was said to gradually weaken and ultimately meet death. This malicious curse was reportedly transmitted from Africa.

However, the person who casts the curse often suffers from nightmares day and night as a result, and develops schizophrenia, madness, and the like, instead bringing misfortune upon themselves. This is the consequence of evil thought, and it is the karmic retribution they deserve.

Nailing and Stabbing Footprints

In Taiwan several decades ago, when it was still under Japanese occupation and had not yet been restored, during this period, the lives of the indigenous people who made the mountains their home were not as comfortable as they are today. In order to survive, hunting naturally became a necessary part of daily life.

In Taiwan, although wild animals were not as numerous as in Africa, the wild boars in the deep mountain jungles were just like the tigers and leopards of Africa—their ferocity was in no way inferior. Every time the tribe sent out hunting parties, the appearance of wild boars would cause panic; on average, out of every ten hunters, one would perish.

Filled with unrelenting hatred, one would carry a long spear and follow the wild boar’s footprints, tracking it all along the way, determined to kill it and avenge a good friend. But upon reaching a sheer cliff, the footprints would no longer continue, the trail would come to an end, and it was unknown which way the boar had run. In despair, one would take up the long spear and violently stab at the footprints the boar had left behind while cursing, venting that feeling of hatred. After two days, the people in the village would discover a lame wild boar wandering at the foot of the hillside, and of course it would quickly be surrounded and captured by the tribespeople. From then on, the indigenous people realized the power of the curse of fiercely stabbing footprints, and they would frequently use this method to eliminate wild boar attacks.

It is said that during the widely known Wushe Incident, the indigenous people at the time also employed this method to resist the oppression of the Japanese militarists. Using guerrilla tactics, they would hide in various mountain caves or other concealed locations, watching the movements of the Japanese troops. As soon as a Japanese unit passed by, the indigenous people would come out in groups and place glass fragments on all the footprints, or drop hydrochloric acid or boiling water on them, or even forcefully hammer five-inch iron nails into them, supplemented by special incantations and symbols drawn on the ground. Before long, the cursed individuals would be unable to walk.

The most crucial element of this method is the final step—the thought-power incantation—which is the key to its effectiveness. The caster needs to possess strong thought-waves; otherwise, it is a mere waste of energy and entirely useless. The full text of this incantation has not, to this day, been uncovered. The author believes it is best that it not be passed down, because this method could still be applied to relationships among ordinary people, and if evildoers were to use it to commit misdeeds, the consequences would be even worse.

The Act of Cursing

When the power of thought is diverted to cursing, causing the cursed target to suffer pain, fall ill, or even embark on the path toward death—in terms of the intent and actions of the one who casts the curse—there is suspicion of threatening the safety of another’s life, and all such cases should fall within the scope of the crime of injury. Even if the person you curse is a local tyrant or a publicly acknowledged menace to society, you should not resort to this method. Such a person should be punished through modern law and handed over to judicial authorities for a fair trial.

Originally, the mysterious power of “curses” could be said to be the sole weapon bestowed upon weak peoples by the higher-dimensional realm for their own self-defense. Yet once it is applied and it truly exerts its “curse power,” causing the other party to suffer injury, pain, and illness, this constitutes the offense of a completed crime according to current legal concepts. However, according to modern legal common sense, what is required is that a “crime” must possess “constituent elements.”

However, curses themselves cannot yet be proven through scientific means, and there is the frustration of having no concrete evidence, yet the results suffered by those who are cursed are mostly factual. Here, the author earnestly offers one piece of advice to readers: if you possess a highly effective method of cursing, absolutely do not use it casually. If you use it at every turn and go down the “wicked path,” at that point its effects will reflect back upon you. You will undoubtedly suffer divine retribution, and the calamity may even spread to your family members. As the saying goes: “Do not say that karma and retribution do not exist; they are far in your children and grandchildren, near in your own body.”

Throughout history, both in China and abroad, those who are fond of wielding this kind of curse not only live in hardship and misfortune themselves, but their descendants will also experience much misfortune. The most obvious examples are the world’s wandering people, the Gypsies, as well as witches and sorcerers who drift through the underworld. Their living conditions are, to a greater or lesser degree, affected by the reflective influence of “cursing” and “playing with wickedness,” with the result that they generally live discontented lives.

Therefore, heavenly justice exists in the unseen world. Though it may not be able to punish you in the third-dimensional world, the spiritual realm of the fourth-dimensional higher space will not forgive you. If, on the contrary, we regularly emit virtuous thought-waves to influence society, enabling everyone to move toward goodness and peace, and even apply this to the development of enterprise, taking a portion of the benefits gained and giving it back to society to help others, we can instead receive the protection of the spiritual realm and live a happy life.

Priceless Giving

Among many religions, Buddhism places particular emphasis on the cultivation of “giving.” The common saying, “Take from society, use for society,” bears some similar meaning to “giving,” but within the Buddhist cultivation of giving, there lies an even deeper significance.

Human life mostly consists of pursuing desires, yet this desire, as experienced through the physical body, is endless. When people have one, they want two; when they have two, they still feel it is not enough, and so they set their minds on three. In this way, they continuously pursue outward, but still cannot achieve satisfaction. When satisfaction cannot be reached, suffering arises.

What Buddhism proposes is to resolve the suffering brought about by desire, and therefore one must cultivate the virtue of “giving.” In the understanding of most people, “giving” refers only to material dedication or the donation of money. In reality, this kind of material or monetary dedication is merely “wealth-giving” within giving. There are also two other types: “Dharma-giving” and “Fearlessness-giving.” “Dharma-giving” means helping others understand the truth, providing spiritual assistance, and resolving difficulties; “Fearlessness-giving” means resolving the spiritual fears of others. The value of the latter two is often higher than that of “wealth-giving.”

Therefore, if we attain the “truth,” we should transmit the “truth” to others. This accomplishes “Dharma-giving” and “Fearlessness-giving.” Some people believe that they themselves cannot awaken to the “truth,” so how could they transmit the “truth” to others? That is mistaken — they are clearly refusing to accept the function of “giving.”

Now let us discuss a method of practicing the virtue of “giving” that requires no material wealth and can be implemented at any place and at any time. This is the “giving” of thought-power. Send out a virtuous thought-wave to fill the relationships between people with love. Through our thought-power, enable a fallen person to suddenly receive self-realization and continue to strive, thereby saving a life or a precious way of living.

Through an incomparably devoted mental power, we emit thought-power and request the advanced spirits of the higher dimensions to assist us. This will surely achieve good results.

In churches during services and prayers, or in temples where people pray and make offerings — on the same day and at the same time, countless worshippers and devout believers are there seeking help, hoping to fulfill their wishes or resolve their difficulties. But among them, why are there those who cannot obtain the opportunity for help? Then what kind of people can actually receive the help of the spiritual realm? First, those who lack “selfish motives”; second, those who possess devotion; third, those who also have powerful thought-waves. Those who can meet the above three conditions will easily obtain the help of the spiritual realm.

Once a friend asked me: “Every time I am extremely devoted, but why do I never receive the help of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas?” The author answered him bluntly: “When you feel that you yourself are very devoted, the degree of your sincerity has already diminished considerably. In other words, when you can detect that you are already very devoted, in reality you are no longer sufficiently devoted.” This is because true devotion has already reached the natural state of zero, a condition of ‘no awareness, no sensation,’ which fundamentally cannot be perceived through your five senses. How could a person’s ‘sincerity’ be so easily spoken of?

Sincerity has no conditions. A person’s “sincerity” is “pure,” not “mixed”; it is natural, not contrived; it arises from within, not imposed from without. If you can understand this state, then you can, based on this, add thought-power and send out virtuous thought-waves to practice “giving.” This thought-wave is drawn forth from “sincere mind,” and is therefore called “mind-giving” — that is, the giving of the mind, which is precisely the mind of great compassion spoken of in the Buddhist scriptures. When you see unfortunate people, you wish to find ways to help them relieve their suffering, give them comfort, and make them happy. A person who frequently brings forth this state of mind is one who practices “mind-giving.”

There is yet another type of “giving” initiated through the power of thought, which is “loving speech giving”—the “giving” of good words. This means encouraging every person to ordinarily speak more words of encouragement, praise, guidance, gratitude, joy, and honesty. “Language” possesses creative power; therefore, if one speaks good words, many good results can be produced. If a person lacks “virtue in speech,” gossips about others, and maliciously criticizes others, that person will inevitably meet with others’ aversion and abandonment. Conversely, a person who understands “loving speech giving” can widely forge wholesome affinities and be respected and welcomed everywhere.

Another type of “giving” related to the wholesome thought-waves is “joyful countenance giving.” This urges everyone to always wear a smile and treat others with serenity. A cheerful expression not only brings happiness to one’s own body and mind, but also allows those around you to be infected by your joyful and happy mood. Everyone forms a harmonious atmosphere, and this invisibly constitutes the greatest form of “giving.”

Therefore, the value of wholesome thought-power is immeasurable. The concrete formation and training methods of thought-power have already been briefly explained earlier. Although everyone possesses this ability, depending on the degree of your faith, if you wish to acquire this ability, you must first believe in its existence before you can generate this ability. Of course, post-natal inspiration and cultivation to bring this ability into full play are even more important.

Part Three: Telepathy

11 The Mystery of Telepathy

The Eyes as the Medium of Telepathic Response

The so-called “telepathic response” refers to the condition in which one influences others through thought and thereby produces a response. Everyone lives within the space and time of telepathic response, and both the reader and the author should have had such experiences. For example: as a student, during class, due to a moment of negligence, you forgot to bring your textbook, or were absorbed in a novel, secretly reading it hidden beneath your textbook, and were discovered by the teacher. Yet the teacher did not scold you, but only gazed at you with their eyes. The instant your eyes met the teacher’s gaze, you naturally lowered your head.

At that moment, a sense of panic arose in your heart, and you regretted your negligent mistake. But the teacher had not spoken a single word of reprimand. In reality, the teacher was reproaching you in their heart, merely without opening their mouth. The thought in their heart had already formed a wave of thought, transmitted to you and making you feel uneasy. The primary instrumental manifestation of this transmitted wave is the eyes. The eyes cannot speak, yet when you see their eyes, you can understand their meaning. The common saying “window of the soul” refers to the eyes as the token of the spirit. Therefore, that the eyes serve as the medium of telepathic response is beyond dispute and is an undeniable fact.

In terms of relationships between men and women, examples of eye-to-eye contact producing love are too numerous to count. The “peach-blossom eyes” that cause a man or a woman to fall in love are also phenomena brought about by telepathic response that cannot be resisted. I often hear people say: “As long as I am looked at by that pair of eyes, I cannot help but throw myself into his embrace.” Furthermore: “If I am stared at by a vicious-looking criminal with murderous eyes, I become panicked, quickly lower my head, and dare not look directly at him,” and so on. It can be seen that the charm of the eyes possesses telepathic supernatural power.

The Weight of Breathing in Telepathic Response

In telepathy, the eyes are the foremost outpost medium, and also the closest point of contact with the telepathic target. But they require a regulated “breath” that forms a “pressing” “wind” directed toward the telepathic target, concentrated and output at a “focal point” in order to be effective.

Why does breathing have such an important mission? The purpose of breathing is to carry out metabolism through gas exchange. Breathing movement depends on the cooperative regulation of various respiratory muscles. The contraction and relaxation of the respiratory muscles are all governed by nerves. The muscles of the chest wall, such as the intercostal muscles and the transversus thoracis, and the muscles of the abdominal wall, such as the rectus abdominis, the internal oblique, and the serratus posterior inferior, are all controlled by the thoracic spinal nerves. From this it can be seen that breathing movement is entirely governed by the medulla oblongata and the spinal nerves of the cervical and thoracic regions.

In terms of spiritual power and supernatural abilities, the region of the “brain” belongs to the power of “domination” and of making all things “obey.” If this region is activated, one can attain the supernatural ability to freely manipulate all things. This place, in the terminology of supernatural abilities, is called “Ajna.” Another region is that of the “chest,” termed in the technical vocabulary “Anahata,” which can capture the thoughts of others and can bridge minds.

The impulses of these two spiritual sources, coordinated with each inhalation and exhalation, slowly expel carbon dioxide from within the body to the outside. The person who exercises telepathic response takes this expelled carbon dioxide and, according to the required thought-power, instantly projects it like a mass of airflow, concentrating it upon the target of telepathic response. That person is assailed in a single instant; combined with the gaze of the eyes, the target is inevitably affected and unable to remain autonomous. If the sender is motivated by wholesome thoughts, then wholesome affinities may be forged; if evil, the target will be led into a state of delusion.

Carbon dioxide does not contain any toxin, but it is undeniable that it can cause momentary confusion. On this Earth, one can say it is filled with carbon dioxide; this carbon dioxide is expelled to the outside through metabolism. Within the airflow of carbon dioxide, the “thoughts” of all manner of people, animals, and plants in the world—invisible to the naked eye—are interwoven. Therefore, when we are subjected to this influence, the emotions of joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness arise. Telepathy is the artful placement of one’s own intentions upon the airflow of thought-power, concentrating them onto a certain trajectory and sending them to the target to obtain the “intended” response.

Using invisible tools to transmit invisible thoughts, and cleverly delivering them to a target, is an extremely inconceivable thing. Theories that do not conform to logic are indeed hard to believe. Yet based on numerous signs and real cases, we cannot help but acknowledge this kind of power.

Some people are born with this kind of extrasensory ability, while others acquire it through later cultivation. In fact, all sentient beings on our Earth are constantly making a living through mutual resonance — no matter whether in public office, personal business, teacher toward student, police toward criminal, parents toward children, brother toward sister, between husband and wife, international politics and economics, or a judge’s trial of a defendant, and so on — all involve you sensing me and me sensing you. And this resonance is a paranormal phenomenon projected through the coordination of breathing and the eyes.

Many people ask me: does a blind person lack this ability? My answer is simple: although blind people have a physiological defect, their “mind’s eye” is forever bright and intact. The human body is the dwelling of the soul. When the window of a house is broken, the master (the soul) must naturally be on high alert, taking extra care of the doors and gates, and must light a candle — and this candle is equivalent to the mind’s eye. From this we can understand that for a blind person, it is their “master” personally standing guard, so their extrasensory ability is in no way inferior to that of a sighted person; at times, it even far surpasses that of sighted people. Among those who make a living on the streets and alleys divining and telling fortunes, blind people are often more accurate than sighted people — this is powerful proof.

12 Telepathy Cases

Sending Out an SOS Distress Signal

In June of 1938, in a fishing village on the east coast of Florida, USA, there was an elementary school student named Yan Deli. At school he was a lively and endearing child who was always jumping and playing with his classmates. One day after returning home from school, he suddenly developed a high fever. His parents thought it was an ordinary cold and took him to the hospital. After receiving injections and taking medicine, the high fever still did not subside. In their anxiety, they called many doctors for a joint consultation, but still no cause could be found, because none of the body’s various functions showed any abnormality. From the day the illness began, the high fever continued unabated for four consecutive days, and his strength grew weaker day by day.

In bed, every twenty minutes, Yan Deli would utter incomprehensible words. At first his father paid no attention to his words, but later, listening carefully, although the child’s words sounded like sleep talk, what he was saying turned out to be the Spanish language. They decided to invite a Spanish priest from the church to solve the mystery of this sleep talk. This priest repeatedly recorded his words and translated them. The content of the sleep talk was: “Come quickly and save our ship! A tornado has pushed the ship into a tilt and it is about to sink! The engine has broken down, and we are now drifting westward. From here the Yucatán Peninsula is visible. Please send a rescue ship!” This was a strange and inexplicable phenomenon — it was as if he were one of the crew members aboard the ship sending out the SOS, continuously calling out in sleep talk.

Half believing and half doubting, they notified the relevant authorities to investigate the disaster location, and dispatched a large number of search personnel and first-aid workers, gathering separately at the place where the situation had occurred. Sure enough, they found the location of the tornado and rescued a Mexican fishing boat. When all the fishermen aboard the boat had been rescued, strange to say, the child’s high fever also subsided along with it, and he returned to his original lively self.

The most puzzling aspect of this incident is: this child suddenly began speaking in Spanish. Regarding this strange phenomenon, in the author’s humble opinion: First, this child himself not only possessed innate telepathic ability, but his power was quite strong, especially his telepathic receptivity, which was extremely acute. In the general cultivation of extrasensory abilities, children tend to find it easier than adults. The reason is: they have fewer distracting thoughts, and their various bodily functions are all more sound. Second, the fishermen aboard that ship, in order to survive, all held a shared cry for help, which became a powerful force of thought. The wave of this thought struck the child’s fundamental spirit, and when his fundamental spirit was disturbed by it, his physical body could no longer be controlled, resulting in a morbid state of physical and mental imbalance.

Later, this child received commendation and was interviewed by radio stations and newspaper reporters, becoming a popular human-interest story for a time. But Yan Deli himself never knew exactly what he had done that made everyone discuss him with such excitement.

Incense Smoke Brings Distant Telepathy

The Chen family, long resident on Ziyou Road, Section 1, in front of the courthouse in Taichung City, are devout Buddhists. Mr. Chen Guohua graduated in his early years from the Department of Law at Soochow University. Starting from his late father, the family has always upheld the radiance of Buddha-nature in serving society. Whenever there was an opportunity, they never ceased their charitable giving, seeking neither fame nor profit. Although their family was not very wealthy, they never lagged behind in voluntary donations for public welfare or in helping the poor. Writing legal complaints and mediating disputes for people was his work, but the fees he collected for drafting legal complaints were always set aside in half for charitable use. When dealing with parties who were in financial difficulty or strapped for cash, he would frequently reduce the fees or even provide his services free of charge.

He had a virtuous wife who gave birth to an adorable baby who, by the age of one, could already chant sutras and bow in worship. In July 1978, his wife became pregnant again. Because she worked day and night without stop, doing drafting and typing for her husband’s work, her body was overburdened and excessively fatigued, which affected the health of the fetus itself. She narrowly avoided miscarriage on multiple occasions, but each time emergency measures were taken in time, averting danger and turning crisis into safety.

On a summer evening, the mother of Mr. Chen, who lived in Xitun, suddenly felt anxious and sensed an ominous omen. She then lit incense and paid homage to the Buddhist statue enshrined in their home. As she gazed at the incense burner, the ash in the burner suddenly began to smoke, and faint wisps of flame ignited. At that time, no incense sticks had been inserted into the burner. The incense from the morning worship had long been extinguished, and the ash inside the burner was completely cold. The time from morning to that moment was at least more than ten hours, and there was nothing inside the incense burner that could have served as a medium for ignition. In that instant, an image of her daughter-in-law groaning flashed through this mother’s mind, and she felt an intense sense of pressure. In a state of extreme unease, she immediately called to find out what was happening. In fact, it was exactly when Mr. Chen was preparing to take his wife to the hospital for an anti-miscarriage injection.

This incident seems like a coincidence, yet the time and space aligned so perfectly that it is worthy of study. There must be some unfathomable principle behind it. It is said that Mr. Chen’s mother, during her daily worship, frequently saw the phenomenon of flames rising from the incense burner. What is even stranger is that whenever this peculiar phenomenon occurred, it would subsequently reflect the dynamic events involving people, matters, and things, and every time it was fulfilled with one hundred percent accuracy.

Mr. Chen’s mother did not possess any innate or acquired abilities, nor did she understand what spiritual power or extrasensory perception was. However, she was a kindhearted and devout Buddhist. Whenever the temple held any religious almsgiving activities, she would be among the first to participate. Such strong strength of faith may have enabled her to communicate with the spiritual realm, producing various premonitions or telepathic abilities.

Regarding the incident of cold ash in the Chen family’s incense burner spontaneously igniting into flame, if it were merely accidental or coincidental, it should not have recurred repeatedly. In order to further unravel this mystery, I once visited the Chen family in Xitun and carefully examined the incense burner and Buddhist altar. There was nothing unusual about them, but I could feel a serene and dignified energy permeating the room.

This phenomenon can also be described as a “telepathic disturbance” in the context of remote telepathy. Given Mr. Chen’s mother’s devotion and her enthusiasm for assisting with temple affairs, especially the entire family’s dedication to Buddhism, these were all primary factors in such telepathic experiences. A sincere person can communicate with benevolent spirits that travel between various dimensions. When she silently prays and makes entreaties, she can receive notifications.

Using this factual case, I would like to propose a theory for readers’ reference. Telepathic ability primarily uses “mental waves” to transmit intention, and the recipient should preferably be someone who also possesses telepathic ability, as this makes the effect more likely to occur. If the recipient lacks telepathic ability, the sender must strengthen the intensity of the telepathic transmission in order for the other party to receive it. Those who are born with strong telepathic ability without any training need not be discussed further. If one’s innate telepathic ability is weak, through subsequent training, considerable achievement can still be attained.

The situations of parents loving their children and children showing filial piety toward their parents are often naturally communicable regardless of the strength of telepathic ability. This is based on the principle of natural instinct. As for the theory of flames appearing from the incense burner, setting aside other physical theories for the moment and speaking from a psychological perspective: when a worshipper’s “sincerity,” under an urgent and undistracted state of mind, uses the incense fire as an antenna, it connects with various benevolent spirits and forms a signal of immediate response. I observed that when Mr. Chen’s mother worshipped, her eyes gazed straight ahead in coordination with her breathing, forming a focused, direct current of energy to an appropriate degree. This is also one of the causes that should not be overlooked.

Relay Family Telepathy

Mr. Zhao Ji, a board member of the “Republic of China Parapsychology Association,” and his wife were both devout Buddhists who had maintained a vegetarian practice for a long time. Many years ago, they lived in a government-assigned dormitory. One day, their younger son, in a moment of confusion, ran away from home without leaving a single word behind. The couple day and night hoped for their son’s early return. Mrs. Zhao, especially, loved her son so dearly that she could hardly eat or sleep each day.

Mr. Zhao comforted his wife and asked her to add the recitation of the Diamond Sutra to her morning and evening lessons, sincerely praying for a telepathic response. Sure enough, their younger son returned home on the sixteenth day. After Mr. Zhao questioned him about what had happened after he left home, it became clear that the younger son, because he had been unable to continue his schooling, did not want to idle away at home. In a moment of impulse, he had gone out with friends to look for work and do odd jobs.

One evening around nine o’clock, while passing in front of a temple on a main street in Changhua, he felt a great force pushing him, or rather pulling him, as if wanting him to go into the temple. Involuntarily, he saw an old man sitting there beckoning to him. So he walked in without any hesitation. This old man, whom he had never met before, opened his mouth and asked him: “Did you run out on your own? Your parents are worrying day and night, hoping for your return. Why don’t you go home?” He also said many other things that matched the facts and moved him deeply. At the time, the old man gave him a thread-bound copy of the Diamond Sutra. After hearing this old man’s words, he ran home full of regret.

After hearing this account, the Zhao couple went to the temple in Changhua the next day to visit that old man and prepare to express their gratitude to him. But they found nothing and no one. They inquired among the people nearby, but no one knew of any such old man.

This is an incredible true story involving real people. Based on general telepathic analysis and judgment, the primary cause still lies with Mr. Zhao and his wife. First, they were devout Buddhists. Second, their worship and daily lessons were sincere and genuine, and they were usually happy to help others and do good deeds. As I have said before, “telepathy” requires someone to respond in order for its efficacy to be manifested. That is to say, there must be someone to receive the “message,” and this recipient should also be someone who possesses telepathic ability.

When Mr. Zhao sent out his invisible thought waves, as they passed through the fourth dimension, his son might not have had any psychic sensitivity and was unable to receive his “thought wave message.” At the moment this thought wave was sent out, if there were others or a person with stronger psychic sensitivity nearby or in the void, it would inevitably be transmitted to that person first, and that person would receive the message conveyed by unseen spiritual waves; in other words, Mr. Zhao’s thought wave was intercepted first by this elderly man. This elderly man’s psychic ability must have been many times stronger than Mr. Zhao’s — beyond calculation. From him, an extraordinary psychic response was then emitted, transmitted to the body of the young son of the Zhao family, producing this touching story.

Another explanation is that this elderly man must have possessed the spiritual power of a “spiritual energy body,” using out-of-body travel to find the Zhao family’s young son. However, in this story, what I want to add for readers is this: when a person sends out thought waves, whether strong or weak, as long as there is a person with stronger telepathic ability in between, that person will intercept your thoughts first. Therefore, if you encounter a kind person, they will “relay” and automatically help you, transmitting your intention to the target person; if you encounter someone who does not want to get involved, then the transmission cannot be completed. However, a person like Mr. Zhao, who can easily eliminate distracting thoughts and single-mindedly devote himself to Buddhism, is very easily able to communicate with benevolent spirits or spirits of the Buddhist realm.

The Telepathic Ability of the Renowned Writer Miss Sanmao

In the environment around our lives, many accessories carry different kinds of magnetic energy, which some people describe as “spiritual energy.” This kind of “energy” always follows the personality and experiences of the original owner. This is especially true of souvenirs, antiques, or items once used by ancestors — they all carry the shadows of the atmosphere and circumstances of that time.

I remember many years ago, at a certain place on Heping East Road, gathering with a group of friends who were fond of researching paranormal science, talking freely about magnetic fields and energy fields in the natural world. This gathering was convened by Mr. Ruan Yiqing, the former secretary-general of the “Parapsychology Association of the Republic of China.” Because I rarely visited Taipei, and at that time I happened to be in Taipei on business with free time in the evening, everyone wanted to hear about my research findings. Those present included film and television producers, directors, journalists, personnel from American organizations in Taiwan, and actress Miss Hu Yinmeng, among others — all well-known figures. By coincidence, the great master of the Black Teaching of Tibetan Esoteric Buddhism, Mr. Lin Yun, happened to be giving a lecture at the Integrated Building of Taiwan Normal University right across the street. Just as I was speaking with deep absorption, suddenly a group of young men and women rushed in from behind me. Of course, I had no time to ask who they were. I continued to talk about my findings.

In an instant, from among these young men and women who had rushed in, there came a surge of energy — an intense wave of psychic resonance, swirling toward me like a vortex. While talking about my findings on one hand, I was searching on the other for the person who carried this intense spiritual energy. At that moment, when my report mentioned that every kind of object has its own spiritual energy and magnetic field, everyone one after another placed their accessories or personal items in front of me, asking me to identify their origins or determine their fortune.

At that moment, there was a young woman wearing a small vest — creamy white, very much resembling the clothing of the Middle East region, like a woman from the Arabian Nights — I remember she wore a pair of short cloth riding boots. This young woman of extraordinary temperament, without uttering a word, placed a necklace in front of me. At the time, because the spiritual energy of this necklace was so heavy, the moment I touched it I immediately felt that this necklace had an extraordinary origin, concealing sorrow and love, and in an instant I sensed the process of making this necklace. Without hesitation, I told this young woman that if a person did not themselves have the “affinity” or “spiritual energy,” they should not wear this necklace. I had no idea that this was the renowned writer Miss Sanmao; I only found out after Miss Hu Yinmeng introduced her. Had I known earlier that she was a writer, I would not have so impulsively said she shouldn’t wear it, and afterward I felt a bit embarrassed.

This necklace carried spiritual energy, and its owner, Miss Sanmao, herself possessed a natural, high-level telepathic ability, so the two complemented each other and provided considerable help to her writing inspiration. Among writers in this country, her creative and literary style — free-spirited and crisp — was extremely popular. In issue 396 of Crown magazine (Volume 66, Number 6), dated February of the seventy-sixth year of the Republic of China, Miss Sanmao once wrote the following:

When I went abroad, my mother gave me a fine gold chain with a small “fortune character” pendant hanging from it, as a keepsake to protect and bless her daughter.

I personally prefer rather rugged accessories. As for that fine chain, purely for emotional reasons, I carefully wrapped it up and put it away, and did not wear it ordinarily. So it became synonymous with a mother’s love, not really a necklace I had chosen for myself.

The necklace shown in the photograph, which I regularly wore, was brought to my home on the day of my wedding and sold to me by a desert woman. This story was once published in Qiao magazine and I will not repeat it here. What I would like to say again is that when the necklace was brought, there was only that piece of silver in the middle; the other parts were decorated for me by my husband using bicycle parts, and as for those two glass beads, they were matched and obtained from a small desert shop. I regarded this necklace as a part of my life, especially after my husband passed away — I wore it almost every day.

This story therefore had a continuation.

Late one night, around eleven o’clock, Hu Yinmeng came running to find me, saying that a professor named Shi Chaolin, who possessed spiritual powers, was at that moment at a friend’s house discussing paranormal topics, and she urged me to go along. Because Professor Shi lived in Taichung, coming to Taipei was no simple matter, and it was very difficult to see him.

When Yinyin and I hurried over to that friend’s house, the living room was already packed with a large crowd of people, and we could only squeeze into a corner and sit down on the floor. Of course, in that kind of setting, introductions were out of the question entirely, because there were far too many people.

Professor Shi was speaking of mystical and supernatural matters; he was lecturing on “the universe and magnetic fields.”

After Professor Shi finished speaking, the friends present one after another passed up the ancient jades or new jades they wore on their persons, asking Professor Shi to examine them and see what effect each item had on body and mind when worn, since this involved questions of magnetic fields.

Some people’s ornaments were passed up, and Professor Shi felt them and said quite plainly: “Very pure, you can wear it.” Some funerary ancient jades, after the professor felt them, he also said casually: “Don’t wear it anymore.” It was not an exaggerated tone at all.

At the time, I was sitting on the floor quite far away. I took off the necklace I was wearing and asked someone to pass it up to Professor Shi.

When he received this silver medallion, he did not speak immediately. He looked at the reverse side as well and said: “A very ancient thing.” I thought, it is only about two hundred years old, not that old. Compared to the Phoenician amphora from the fourteenth century BCE at home, it truly could not be considered old.

I waited for Professor Shi to say more. The expression on his face as he held that necklace suddenly underwent an extremely subtle change, as if a thread of compassion flickered through his heart, and I, very directly, saw into his kind heart — this was all just a momentary thing.

Everyone was waiting for Professor Shi to speak. He said: “This necklace is hard to talk about.” I said: “Professor Shi, please speak frankly, it’s all right.”

He pondered for a moment before saying to me: “You are a born psychic, like a powerful antenna. Your physical condition is too frail. You really should not get involved in those things anymore.”

At the time, Professor Shi absolutely did not know me. Among the dozens of people present, he singled me out to say this. I nodded vigorously and said I would absolutely not deliberately attempt to contact spirits. Only then did he discuss the necklace.

Professor Shi said: “Locked inside this necklace are too many tears. A love story is condensed within it, isn’t that so?”

I nodded heavily and leaned my body forward onto my knees.

When the gathering ended, Professor Shi asked Yinyin: “Who is your friend?” Yinyin said: “It’s Sanmao! The one who writes stories!”

Professor Shi indicated he had never heard of me before.

That necklace, which he had described so accurately, I set aside for two or three years. During those years of swallowing back tears, I never looked at it again.

Part Four: Self-Training Methods

13 Clairvoyance and Psychokinesis Training

*Training in Poker Card Clairvoyance

For training in perceiving activity through walls, a specialized training tool — ESP cards — can be used. If you do not have these cards on hand, you can buy a deck of playing cards at a stationery store.

First, shuffle the fifty-two cards thoroughly, place them face down, and set the whole stack on the table. Take the top card without looking at its face. Then, after doing ordinary natural breathing for six seconds, guess which of the four suits — spades, clubs, hearts, or diamonds — the card is. Do not guess the number, only the suit. If you think it is spades, place it on the left side facing the table; during this time you must not look at the face. For the second card, if it is clubs, place it next to the spade card from just now. In this way, sort them into four different suits, stacking cards of the same suit together.

After you have finished sorting and placing all fifty-two cards, count how many you got right. In the spades pile, how many spades did you place? Perhaps only four. In the clubs pile, perhaps you only guessed three correctly. In the diamonds pile, perhaps you only placed one correctly. In the hearts pile, only two. A total of ten — this kind of result is failing. The minimum standard is to guess correctly an average of over twenty cards per round to pass. In this kind of self-training, you must achieve over twenty correct guesses in at least sixty out of one hundred rounds before it can be considered genuinely passing, rather than mere probability.

However, if you have already achieved such results today, has your clairvoyance improved? The answer is no. Nothing in this world is gained without effort, and developing extraordinary abilities is even more difficult. In the past, many young friends who enjoyed research and wanted to gain extraordinary abilities all gave up halfway, simply because they lacked patience. So to this day, I don’t know how many people have wanted to study with me to develop extraordinary abilities, but I have not accepted a single one of them for training, because patience is extremely important.

The training method is very simple: just do it repeatedly. And for the learner, perseverance is the most important thing. Once you possess it, it will truly benefit you endlessly. Therefore, we must continually invest time to practice several hundred rounds.

*Training of the “Chakra” Region

The region related to clairvoyance is the area five centimeters below the navel, called the “Svadhisthana Chakra.” By strengthening this region, progress will be made in telepathy. However, even though this chakra has been developed, you still cannot apply and control it — it is merely a gem sitting there.

To freely manipulate your clairvoyant ability according to your own will, you must first strengthen the central region from the chest to the navel, called the “Manipura Chakra.” Once this area is strengthened, not only will your clairvoyant ability benefit, but there will also be a positive sublimating effect on your character and personality. A person who ordinarily acts impulsively and has unstable emotions will become more stable, their thinking will become more refined and not sloppy, and their mood will gradually become very gentle. Now, I will explain the training procedure as follows:

1 When sitting cross-legged, place your hands on your knees, form a circle with your thumb and index finger, and extend the other three fingers naturally with your palms facing upward. Focus your awareness on the perineum, contracting and relaxing, repeating for five minutes.

2 Slowly contract and relax the lower abdomen, repeating for five minutes.

3 Inhale through the mouth. The energy entering through the throat is slowly transported to the navel position. At the same time, using visualization, imagine a red flame at the tip of the tailbone rising up to the navel to merge with that energy. All of this relies entirely on imagination: the fire rising, merging, and then mixing.

4 Retain the breath at the navel area, mixing the energy and the flame (also imagined). The breath retention at this stage has no time limit; it is determined by personal will (but it must absolutely not be forced).

5 Exhale. During this time, you need to repeat the movements from 3 to 5 for ten minutes.

6 Next, change from cross-legged sitting to Japanese-style formal sitting, but with the knees slightly apart.

7 Close the eyes and shift the mind to the tip of the nose.

8 Half-open the eyes, aiming the eyes at the tip of the nose. Then immediately open the eyes wide again. Repeat this for ten minutes.

9 Return to the original cross-legged sitting posture, and continue repeating steps 3 to 5 for ten to twenty minutes.

The above self-training method takes about forty minutes. You must do it for at least forty minutes a day. If you wish to extend the time, you can just repeat the method from steps 3 to 5 for the extended duration.

By doing this every day, those who progress quickly can acquire basic abilities after a few months. When practicing, do not force it. When it is time to rest, you must stop practicing.

14 Mental Concentration Training

* Gazing Method

During the self-training process, the “Manipura Chakra” at the navel area below the chest cavity will have no distracting thoughts, concentration will also increase, breathing will be very relaxed, and the physical sensations will be comfortable. In fact, the self-training of the gazing method is training the “Chakra” area that enhances clairvoyant ability. After the previous training of the “Svadhisthana Chakra,” practicing this gazing method can bring clairvoyance or precognitive abilities to a higher level.

In the gazing method, there are many kinds of target objects to gaze at. Because the object of focus differs, the nature of your supernatural ability also differs accordingly. Those commonly used include candles, the setting sun, the moon, and celestial bodies such as constellations, or amulet graphics with squares, etc. In addition, you can also look at totem models with spiritual power, pyramid models, or paintings.

When gazing at bright objects, those that are too glaring are not suitable. Bright objects that are not glaring yet remain effective are the light of a candle or the setting sun. The following introduces a candle gazing method.

First, adjust the lighting in the room to be slightly dim, light the candle, and then place this candle at the same height as your eyes, 50 to 60 centimeters away from your face.

Relax the whole body, especially the upper body, which must be loose. Note that once you begin gazing, you cannot move anymore; for at least fifteen minutes, you must not move, maintaining a completely static state. After withdrawing your body and mind, gaze at the brightest part of the candle’s flame, which is the bright part right above the wick. After a few minutes, your eyes may water, but try your best not to shake your body. You must remain motionless for at least fifteen minutes. Practice like this every day.

After a period of time doing this, one day, it will feel as if there is a fire burning on top of your head. That is because you yourself have already become that candle. Why does this phenomenon occur? It is because the eyes’ “Manipura Chakra” and the energy magnetism have become one, forming a pathway.

This training, the “Gazing Method,” is highly valued in yoga and can treat eye diseases and nearsightedness.

In this kind of self-training, one often fails at the crucial point and is unable to concentrate the mind. The reason is that the person involved becomes anxious due to the self-conscious demand of wanting to “concentrate,” “I must concentrate,” which induces a consciousness of “I cannot not concentrate,” making them conscious of themselves, which in turn prevents them from concentrating. This is because you yourself can never become the object of focus, and you are still aware of the existence of “I.” Therefore, letting everything be natural is the most important thing.

* Between-the-Eyebrows Mental Unification Method

1 Sit cross-legged or sit on a chair; not sitting cross-legged is also fine.

2 Eliminate distracting thoughts and take deep breaths.

3 Close both eyes. Raise the middle finger of your left or right hand, extend it straight, point it at the space between your eyebrows, and draw circles. Slowly approach the space between your eyebrows.

4 Gently tap the space between your eyebrows five times with the extended finger. At this time, your entire mind will be concentrated on the space between your eyebrows.

5 Afterward, you no longer need to use your finger to tap the space between your eyebrows; as long as your finger points at the space between your eyebrows, your mind will be concentrated.

After completing movements 1 to 4, do some relaxed arm swings. One back-and-forth swing counts as one time. After doing this twenty times, you must drink two small sips of water (hot or cold does not matter) and rest for a bit.

Do this for about fifteen minutes or less every day; you must not exceed fifteen minutes. Continue doing this for about three weeks.

* Pencil Mental Unification Method

This training requires a chair, a desk, and three unsharpened pencils.

Because it is highly difficult and quite complex, mental concentration is extremely important.

1 Sit formally next to the desk, concentrate your mind using the breathing method, and then stand the pencils upright one by one side by side on the desk.

2 After the three pencils are stood up, gaze at the three pencils with half-closed eyes, or do not look at these three pencils at all, and do the breathing method once more.

3 This time, you must use your eyes to gaze at these three pencils. While gazing, slowly lay both hands flat on the desk.

Attention! Do not let the pencils fall over. If they fall, you must start over from the beginning.

One training session is fifteen minutes. If you reach seven minutes and the pencils fall over, you must start over from the beginning again. They absolutely must not fall within the fifteen minutes.

* Calming Breathing Method

In a busy and tense industrial society, everyone’s emotions can easily become agitated and unstable, restless, depressed, and when irritable, one may even want to scold others or deliberately provoke incidents to vent. This kind of situation is not only an absolute obstacle for those who want to develop extraordinary abilities, but at the same time, it also has an extremely negative effect on office workers, businesspeople, housewives, and so on. At this time, please promptly perform the following calming breathing method.

1 Sit on a slightly lower chair (men should untie their ties beforehand, and loosen the first button of their tops; women should do the same, slightly loosening any tight-fitting accessories).

2 Exhale a deep breath from the nose, then inhale through the nose; halfway through inhaling, the mouth should also coordinate by taking a deep breath in. During this time, tilt your head back naturally.

3 Hold your breath temporarily. There is no time limit; hold it until you cannot bear it anymore (but do not force it). Then, purse your lips into a pointed shape and blow, blowing far into the distance, exhaling like this, while your upper body leans forward in coordination with the breathing.

Then, repeat the same movements from 1 to 3 until you feel that you have truly stabilized. Generally, the maximum time is about fifteen to twenty minutes, and you will definitely calm down.

* Phased Training Method

This is another training method. For basic training, first practice the breathing method or the gazing method for fifteen minutes every day. After doing this for two or three weeks, then practice the glabella method. But how do you judge whether you have practiced it well? If the back of your head feels very light, and your eyes feel that your vision is not fatigued, it means your breathing method or gazing method has succeeded, and then you can practice the glabella method.

Before starting to train in the glabella method, first review the breathing method for fifteen minutes, then begin practicing the glabella method, which also takes two to three weeks.

The effect of the glabella method is in the space between your eyebrows; when you take a deep breath, and even if your finger is not pointing at the glabella you feel a slight tingling sensation, that counts as having practiced the glabella method well.

The third stage is the penholder mental unification method, but before entering the penholder mental unification method, you must review the breathing method or gazing method and the glabella method for fifteen minutes each before you can enter the training method of penholder mental unification.

Doing this every day, similarly after passing two or three weeks, practice the gazing method or breathing method, glabella method, penholder method, and so on, each for fifteen minutes for a total of forty-five minutes every day. After three months to half a year, you will possess the qualities of a person with extraordinary abilities. In training, perseverance is important, and confidence is even more indispensable.

But absolutely do not force it; when you have a cold or are tired, you absolutely must not do it. When you are about to practice, try to find an east or southeast position in the house to practice; a south position is also acceptable. When practicing, it is best to ask an expert for guidance.

15 Precautions

1 Before training, you should first defecate and urinate so that the intestines and bladder are not under any burden.

2 The stomach should also be kept empty; do this three to four hours after a meal.

3 Training after sunbathing is prohibited.

4 Choose a place with circulating air and quiet surroundings, and also avoid strong winds or cold places.

5 The time for self-training is any time between 4:00 AM and 8:00 AM. Because the morning air is living qi and the afternoon air is dead qi, it is more appropriate to conduct training in the morning.

6 Before doing training, if permitted, taking a shower first (regardless of whether the water is cold or hot) can further increase the effect.

7 Self-training must not be conducted on a bed.

8 Clothes should be loose, not tight, with a soft feel against the skin. Of course, you can wear a pyramid necklace around your neck to assist with the emotional effect during training.

9 During training, breathing should primarily be through the nose.

10 During training, do not rush; proceed slowly. If you feel an itch or a sense of comfort somewhere during training, do not stop halfway to touch it; try to accept it through your senses. This can also cultivate concentration and endurance.

11 If there is pain in a part of your body during training, you may stop the training. Consult the person guiding the training.

12 When there is gas in the intestines, you must not self-train, nor should you do handstands.

13 After training, resume a natural posture, or gently move your limbs by swinging your arms, etc.

14 Do not deliberately change your diet, but excessive eating and drinking are absolutely prohibited.

Written at the End

Various demonstrations of extraordinary abilities do not represent that human beings possess omnipotent magical powers; they are merely experiments, research, and proofs of human potential.

Many abilities such as telepathy, psychokinesis, and clairvoyance are not the entirety of extraordinary abilities. Those merely prove that humanity indeed hides such extraordinary abilities. Come to speak of it, how could the extraordinary powers possessed by humanity be limited only to such a narrow scope as psychokinesis and telepathy? They are broader, more numerous, more profound, and even infinite to the point of being one with nature.

The difference between Chinese people and Westerners is that when Chinese people are curious about a phenomenon, they merely seek to try it out and play with it themselves; Westerners also observe things with the same curiosity, but they have an advantage: after being curious, they will seek answers, find the causes, and find out why? And they research it with a scientific attitude, and then figure out how to apply it to real life. I personally believe that developing extraordinary abilities should be applied to personal entrepreneurship, career, education, and society, and so on.

Soviet Russia treats the development of extraordinary abilities as part of national defense, investing vast sums every year—nearly in the hundreds of millions—to strengthen research. The Indonesian government has also provided considerable funding to support research and development work on the cultivation of latent potential. Some Western European countries apply it in psychotherapy and even train intelligence personnel in how to harness their latent potential to carry out missions, solve cases, and so forth. The U.S. Department of Defense and the Stanford University Research Institute spent at least ten thousand dollars or more on remote viewing experiments alone; in addition, the U.S. Army Missile Research and Development Command also spent thirty thousand dollars on research into the special technique of “Kirlian photography.”

We too should approach this from a scientific standpoint, conducting research and encouraging experimentation. Therefore, it is hoped that the domestic academic community, including psychology departments and other physics departments, will open their minds, accept it, take it seriously, and engage in collaborative research. We should not constantly allow the advanced nations to take the lead while we remain in the role of playing catch-up; we must conduct research proactively.

Here, I personally feel it is deeply regrettable that Chinese people often like to use abstract terminology to mystify paranormal phenomena, thereby elevating their own personal worth. At present there are many books of this kind—some are translations from foreign sources, while others are subjective nonsense. Those deliberately mystifying explanations of such reports have led people astray.

The film The Exorcist, which caused a sensation and set the all-time box office record, was adapted from the factual account of a priest performing an exorcism on a girl. However, every time such a genuine paranormal phenomenon is publicly revealed in Taiwan, a host of charlatans and swindlers who conjure spirits and play tricks soon seize the opportunity to pass themselves off and make a quick profit. Of course, foreign countries are no exception: after the Israeli psychic Uri Geller appeared, even Japan saw the emergence of many fake Uri Gellers loudly proclaiming themselves in public places.

At a time when mainland China is also conducting research into paranormal (Super Nature) abilities, we in the free nations should all the more, through self-discipline, dispel mystifying superstition and explore the truth with a scientific spirit, and then apply it to national security and social welfare.
