According to Mao, the process of knowing basicaly involves two stages.1
- The perceptual or empirical: Derived from gathering raw data or facts through sense perception and social investigation. These ideas can be brought back to practice to improve it.
- The cognitive or rational: Consequently, knowledge of a higher level can be drawn from improved practice. These decisions and stable conclusions are called rational knowledge.
