“East Turkistan” Terrorist Forces Cannot Get Away with Impunity
A report released by the PRC in January of 2002 describing the ’terrorist threat’ China was facing and requesting assistance in combating this threat.
- The first half tried to refute Uyghur history and link them to international terrorism.
- The second half declared that Eastern Turkistan terrorist forces were responsible for 200 terrorist incidents from 1990 to 2001. Then it provides a list of violent events.
- Few of them qualify as ’terrorism’ because the vast majority did not target civilians or weren’t premeditated political violence.
- Only ’terrorist’ acts mentioned are 5 series of explosions.
- Majority of them were never reported until the document’s release.
- Only the
Urumqi bus bombings (1997) and
Urumqi bus bombings (1992) were reported on.
- But neither of these bombings were ever claimed by an organization.
