2016 Bishkek Embassy Suicide Bombing

• On 30 August 2016, it was reported that an alleged suicide attack had been carried out against the Chinese Embassy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, reportedly by a Uyghur.
• However, the details surrounding the incident were suspiciously nonsensical, reminiscent of the supposedly foiled attack on the by ETIM in 2002.
  1. Within a week, Kyrgyz authorities claimed the attack was carried out by
     • a Uyghur of unknown origin
     • who held a Tajik passport
     • was funded by Al-Nusra Front
  2. However, all five arrested in connection with the attack were Kyrgyz citizens.
  3. Furthermore, nobody had ever identified the Uyghur who allegedly carried out the attack.
  4. Al-Nusra Front was not known to carry out attacks outside Syria.
  5. The 5 Kyrgyz who were arrested were not known to be associated with TIP nor claimed any knowledge of the operation.
